“Just Whistle While You Work
And cheerfully together we can tidy up the place.
So hum a merry tune, it won’t take long,
When there’s a song, to help you set the pace!”
Those are the lyrics to “Whistle While You Work” sung by Snow White, while cleaning the house belonging to the Seven Dwarfs.
What has Snow White to do with this post?
It is Wednesday and I don’t know how I got it… but I certainly have it!
What you ask?
The energy of Snow White to tackle my desk area and my recipe storage area.
I have to be very creative because I have a lot of cook books, recipes and “stuff”….
Before I retired, I had an office in my home, dedicated to my work only, so I had a place for everything and everything it its place.
Since I retired, I gave my office to the Captain and I took over the little kitchen nook.
I have to admit that I like it much better, because now that I am in the kitchen, it makes cooking, baking and experimenting with recipes so much easier. Everything is at my fingertips.
And I have a perfect view of my Secret Garden, blooming flowers on the pergola and all the birds etc….
The bad news is…When the switch took place, I was going several different ways and so I did what some of us do when in a hurry to “get in”.
I shoved and piled cookbooks, recipes and other “stuff” where ever I found a slot. My thoughts were to “live” with it awhile and then I would come up with the best place for everything.
Also, I was so busy building my Blog….and posting “confessions” and recipes, that it was easy to put off doing a little Spring Cleaning.
Actually, I am working with a web designer to develop a format that will make the recipes more user friendly.
It is proving to be a very slow process. He is writing new codes exclusively for me and so far he has just under 200 pages of code.
(I wanted to ask if it was CIA proof with so many pages of codes , but perhaps he would not see the humor in that!) 😉
Seriously, I want you, my friends and followers to be able to access a recipe not only on the original post, but I want you to be able to see the pictures of the recipes on a drop-down in an order of some sort….as well as a recipe index for easier navigating! More to come…
And I am working on a few give-a-ways that ought to be fun. More to come on that too…
So in cleaning my little Office Area and editing and adding to my Blog, I am going to share some of what I have done.
It is not earth shattering….
It is just making things a little neater and easier to get to….in my previous work life, this is known as 5 “S”.
Perhaps some of you can relate?
Before of one of the cabinets with cook books shoved in any old way.
Manilla folders full of recipes… a mediation place until they find a “home”. Some found a home in File 13! 🙂 Not recipes, but written notes etc.
A neater and more orderly book section of one of the cabinets.
One of the cabinets ready for a put back.
The laptop area filled with this and that…
More recipes (many handwritten by friends and family) and more cook books! I am saving room at the top of this one because I have a box full of really old cook books that belonged to my Mother and Grandmother.
More organization!
I have to admit that I had one trash bag full of “stuff” that I didn’t need. After all, it would have been foolish to put everything back. 🙂
Doesn’t it make you feel good once everything is neat and tidy?
Oh, I did hum a couple tunes, but to be honest, it wasn’t “whistle while you work.”
Probably because I can’t whistle.
I can pucker up and get about two notes out…but I can’t whistle a tune.
But I can clean!
Enjoy your Wednesday and make it a great week….and keep smiling!

Thanks, Kari.

I do need to clean my work space, but I have an excuse. I’m sick, and I went to the doctor’s today, so I’m on heavy duty antibiotics. Smile!

Sandy, I hope you get to feeling better soon….get plenty of rest and plenty of fluids!
I know you already know that…but a sick one brings out the Mother in me…:)
