FBO’s, My Captain’s Home Away From Home!
As many of you know, the Captain is a real Captain and his “day job” is flying corporate jet airplanes….his “fun job” is flipping houses.
The Captain’s schedule is 7 days on and 7 days off and during his “on” period, he is flying all over the country.
There are many “legs” during a day of flying, which means jet pilots require facilities, like a Flight Base of Operations (FBO’s) to provide a home away from home… if only for a few hours before the next “leg”.
I thought you might like to see a few pics of various amenities offered to corporate pilots from a few of the FBO’s..
My Captain’s passengers are the rich and famous ….. and no, he doesn’t fly me, because I am neither rich nor am I famous! 🙂
Although there was one time he flew me from Lincoln, Nebraska back down to KC as he was doing a ferry flight … but due to new company regulations those kinds of flights are not allowed anymore.
The Captain flies in and out of major airports and smaller airports all day long.
Most airports have separate FBO’s located in separate buildings/hangars for fueling and they also have amenities for corporate pilots…
….especially if the pilots have a few hours of down time. If there is an overnight stay involved, the pilots go to hotels.
Sometimes, FBO’s offer a history of the area and have old aircraft on display…..my Captain never tires of looking at airplanes though he has been flying since he was 16 years old. The above pic is at Page Field FBO just across the bridge from Cape Coral.
Many FBO’s across the country offer the following amenities, some nicer than others.
- Kitchen
- Theatre Room
- Television Lounge
- Spa Room with massage chairs
- Flight planning office
- Quiet room with sleeping accommodations
- Shower facilities
- Coffee, sodas, and snacks
I have to admit that after my first visit to an FBO, I did a mental comparison of the cafeteria and break room at my job (Boeing) and felt a little bit of job envy! 🙂
Have a great Thursday and keep smiling…..it is contagious!

This was fascinating to me.

If you notice in one pic…it gives you an idea how the passengers literally have their limos drive on the tarmack and they go from one mode of transportation to another….no screening or checked bags….definitely the way to travel. 🙂 thanks for stopping by

The FBO amenities are usually pretty good,….once in a while the hotels are another story, especially if you are wanting to sleep and there are party people going up and down the hall as was the Captain’s situation at the Crown Plaza in Philly last night. 🙁 thanks for stopping by.
