Folks, dear friends….
If you have been following me for while, you know I am not a fashionista!
But I have purchased a few new pieces of clothing that have moved into my closet and said hello! ….move over T-shirts and capri pants….I have arrived!
No, I have not been to Paris or to ANY type of fashion runway….
My shopping is all done on-line …remember?
But I have found, in my opinion…a perfect outfit and if you recall, if I find something I like, then I proceed to buy one in every color available.
So here it is.
The perfect vacation, staycation or hopping around the Mall, Florida…dress!
Yikes!
I could hear all my other super casual clothes in my closet shriek when I hung up the first dress.
Dress????
Did I say dress?
I sure did, even though I rarely wear a dress anymore…not even to church….where I am always in pants, a nice top and I call it good.
My idea of a fashion statement is to remove my flip-flops and put on a pair of white tennis shoes. LOL
So what made me decide after almost 10 years in Florida to wear a dress?
Well, first off…it is a Maxi dress….so we are already thinking and feeling casual with that.
Secondly, this particular maxi dress has sleeves!
I am not too fond of showing off my upper arms when the Captain and I go out to dinner.
I really don’t know many older women who do like to expose their upper arms unless they are in a bathing suit…and even then I like to have a cover up if we have guests in the pool.
I am sure there are many of you who do not mind wearing sleeveless anything…but I don’t like to wave good-bye with anything but my hand, if you know what I mean.
So, I bought the first Maxi dress and the attraction for me was not only the elbow length stretchy sleeves… there was a kinda sexy slit up each side of the dress.
Ok, another confession to make….
I would never have the inclination to strike a pose with one leg stuck way out to my side, like an additional limb, as I have seen in a few movie star red carpet photos.
I mean, just what are they doing?
The slit in their dress is almost up to their tiny waists and then BAM!! out juts their bare, perfectly tanned leg like they are having a leg cramp.
That leg is stuck so far out to their side… that they look like a fake manakin that a clerk couldn’t put all the leg and arm pieces together correctly and finally just gave up.
Sorry, I digress.
My Maxi dress on the other hand has two slits up each side, but the slits stop discreetly about lower thigh….AND, there is another matching dress of the same material underneath that is called a slip, so when one walks (or strikes a photo op pose) the cellulite is not showing in the upper thigh. 😉
In addition, there can be no dress malfunction as the outer dress is attached to the inner “slip” and will not allow ANYTHING to creep up and expose body parts.
Yay!!!
Not only does this dress protect and not reveal….it is so tropical looking that after putting it on…one is ready to go anywhere.
This dress will take you to the poolside, or out to dinner in any nice restaurant, or out to the hamburger joint or to church.
It can be dressed up or down, with flip-flops, flats, tennies, wedges, or even heels with a four inch spiked heel, not that I would ever wear those spindly things anymore.
If I put on a pair of stilettos now at my age…I would topple over in a heartbeat.
Nope! Can’t do it…but my point is….any shoe or handbag or hat can change the appearance of this Maxi dress.
And what is better than one Maxi dress?
How about 6 of them?
Yep, I had to go back and order all the other colors because I like the fit and the sleeves.
Dressing it up or down is such fun and I have a few pairs of shoes to show you that work well with this dress…..and a straw bag and hat.
Perhaps my favorite,…. though I really don’t have one…is the red because it looks so tropical.
Remember, this is coming from someone who does not want the “klitchy” pink flamingos in my front yard, but I really like the tropical prints on this dress.
So, I have it in blue with large pink flowers.
I have it in black with multi-colored flowers and I like pairing the rose gold sandals with it.
Here it is in green with large yellow flowers.
And this one is especially nice as it is almost neutral with gray, navy and black palm fronds.
And of course a solid black…everyone needs a little black dress right?
A friend commented that my wedge shoe was sooooo high, but look again. there is very little rise from your heel to your toes so you don’t have that feeling that you are tottering.
Do you like the comfort of Maxi dresses?
If you do, put one on, add a straw bag, big sunglasses, sandals and perhaps a straw hat, and you will feel like you are here with me in SW Florida!
Hugs and Blessings!
I love those maxi dresses and I noticed a pair of Vionic shoes in there too! My friend Dr. Vasyli is the founder of Vionic, He designed a great product and I live in his shoes. I think I have 25 plus pairs of different styles. Sadly, he died suddenly a couple years ago and I’m so happy his company is still going strong and bringing out great shoes.
Catherine, those shoes are so comfortable and good for your feet. I have a few pair but your collection sounds amazing. I love love love the Maxi dresses. Thanks for stopping by.
looove your dresses! I too am in Florida and those are perfect. Did I miss out on where you got them?
Thanks – I also am of an age to cover up lots except alas on the tennis court. But there I have switched to cap sleeves instead of tanks.
I love them too Barbara and I got them at QVC http://www.qvc.com/G.I.L.I.-Regular-Short-Sleeve-Side-Slit-Maxi-Dr.product.A304670.html?upsh=1&sc=A304668-CSWB
Cap sleeves work great too…although I prefer just a bit longer if I can find them. These dresses were on sale when I got them although the price is still a good price even now. Thanks for stopping by.
Thank you for sharing your source! I too wear longer sleeves most of the time! I live in Ocala and it gets hot, but I’d rather sweat a little than show off ugly arms! 😉 I Love also how you accessorized your outfits!
Barbara
From Jane…Thank you for your humor. Those dresses are so pretty.
Love that QVC.
See you soon,
Jane
Thanks Jane….I am looking forward to your visit to SW Florida, my neck of the woods! LOL For some reason I am thinking about cookies.
OMG… I really laughed out loud. Kari you are a real gem.
I love that you took the plunge for the first dress and then…. snapping up the other colors is pure decadent genius! It’s also something I’m prone to do with shoes.
I’ve just discovered Toms. Seems I’m the last to discover them. Buy one pair (colourful plimsols type of deck shoe) and one pair of shoes goes to a needy person. Just so many colors… think I bought 6 pairs within 6 weeks😂
Luckily you should have the perfect weather to wear your lovely new dresses. I hope you have plenty of occasions to enjoy them.
Hugs from across the pond xx
Thanks Ross…I am glad to hear that I am not the only one to “stock up” when we find something we like. thank you for stopping by, I so appreciate you. Hugs xx
