I would like to introduce you to Ms. Duck….Ms. Mottled Duck, not to be confused with Ms. Mallard Duck.
They do look similar as do the male and female of this particular popular SW Florida species.
Folks you know I like my quiet time…my time alone sipping my hot tea, doing a devotional or just giving myself permission to have a little “me time” in my Secret Garden.
But early today…a little after First Light….I walked out to see Ms. Duck.
“Good Morning”….I greeted her as I sat my hot tea and Bible down and prepared to seat myself comfortably on the garden bench.
We continued to chat,
Well, I was the one doing the chatting and she was the one staring at me like I had lost my mind.
Ha ha…
You see, as popular as “her kind” are to SW Florida, this visitor had never visited me before, especially in the Secret Garden where she didn’t mind staying awhile.
You usually see them around water and I have to admit, we do have plenty of water in and around Villa de La Luna.…in other words our home….
Still….
My secret garden is usually a secret from the larger fowl, such as these Ibis who like to visit in the front and side yards of our home.
Oh, I’m sorry Ms. Duck…didn’t mean to offend with fowl name calling.
I love all kinds of wild life and many that visit, are in pairs that stay together for as long as they live.
How sweet is that?
This is a flock of Ibis who also like to help me by checking out my lawn for grubs, which is a favorite meal for them….It is a win win situation for us.
The Secret Garden however has my usual visitors….like Mr. & Mrs. Morning Dove….she coos to me each morning.
And…Mr. & Mrs. Mocking Bird and all their little birds that they hatch out. They all love to chat.
And of course Mr. & Mrs. Cardinal who will always have a special place in my heart. I’ve talked of them before.
There is Mr. & Mrs. Nuthatch and Mr. & Mrs. Wren too….we haven’t even begun to talk about the butterflies, but that is for another day.
And now….there is Ms. Duck, who perhaps is thinking of a good place for a nest….she really didn’t say that but she remained near that spot for most of the morning.
Welcome to my menagerie…
I know it is going to be a great start to the day when Twin #1 face times me with the beautiful sun, rising above the road as he drives to work. (he pulled over on the country road just to share the sight)
I hope you are having a great and glorious day…
Blessings Always

Lovely to see the weather is kind enough to bring the new birds in and allow you to sit out and enjoy their company. Although the duck must have been a surprise.
I saw humming birds feeding in Costa Rica which was mesmerising.
I have a friendly Robin in my garden, but I’ve never talked sat and talked to him.😁
Enjoy your secret garden
Hugs from across the pond. x

Kari, what a fun post and you are an excellent writer. I love watching and hearing the birds that frequent our country home! We live very close to the river, and we have been excited over the past five years to have bald eagles fly over. The photo of your male cardinal is stunning. I would love to join you in your garden, it is so pretty and peaceful!

Thanks Pam….you are too kind. 🙂 Bald eagles are amazing and so majestic…there is a video cam on an Eagle’s nest close by and the live stream is addictive. I could watch for hours.
thank you for stopping by. Blessings always
