Don’t you love it when a plan comes together?
You know, the dishes are done and the kitchen all cleaned after supper and you are just minding your own business….
Propped up in bed with your feet higher up on pillows….thumbing through an old issue of Southern Living magazine and you see a picture of a picnic.
By a lake.
A Romantic, Patriotic Picnic!
And then?
You stare fixedly on the opposite bedroom wall, as a smile spreads your facial cheeks making you look like a chip monk….
Or perhaps more like the cat that swallowed the canary.
And then your thoughts start racing and jumping all over each other as the next thought, one-ups the last thought, and the plan begins to emerge.
Picnic basket?
Check.
Minnow bucket?
Check.
Blue and white striped table cloth?
Check.
Cute, new, red, white and blue speciality picnic dishes with glass holder in the center much like a chip and dip platter.
Or a flower pot with a drip tray.
No matter how they look,… they work to hold your drink and food with only one hand, if needed.
Check.
Pitchers?
Check.
The only decision to make is whether to use the red striped pitcher or the navy blue striped pitcher as a flower vase.
Quick decision made on that choice.
Blue and white pitcher to match the blue and white striped tablecloth.
Check.
Faux flowers?
Seriously?
You are kidding right?
There are so many faux flowers in the closet of the office that one would think they were in Flowers-R-Us.
Water setting?
Really?
Florida is home, after all, plus we live in the Cape!
A Cape folks, with water on three sides.
Check.
Picnic table of course, but with plan B already forming in my brain…. just in case there are no picnic tables available, …the small red folding table will do just fine, along with the blue and white striped tablecloth spread on the ground.
Perfect!
Incredible!
Awesome!
Spontaneous!
Romantic!
Ohhhhh yesssss…
Food?
My thoughts raced.
What would the Captain like to eat at our picnic?
Giant red strawberries in the fridge, fresh from the Farmer’s Market.
Strawberry Pie made fresh in the morning.
How about a few blue berries for the ole’ red, white and blue?
I was on a roll now.
Philly Cheesesteak sandwiches made with the thin layers of beef in the freezer for just that purpose.
Oh, this was too easy.
Quick and Easy Potato Salad…
Check.
Cole Slaw.
Check.
Potato Chips.
Can’t have a picnic without chips.
Cheese and Crackers.
Of course.
I haven’t forgotten the minnow bucket which was the impetus for this impromptu picnic.
Pick up a bag of ice on the way to the park to put in the minnow bucket….
Everyone loves a surprise element.
And a bottle of ice-cold coca cola in a bucket of ice on a warm summer day….
Perfection!
A pitcher of water infused with lemons and limes.
Refreshing!
A few Patriotic pillows…
You betcha!
Never rule out the un-for-seen.
Little Gray Squirrels trying to crash the picnic…
A red, white and blue picnic by the lake with your honey…. good food, cold drinks, and a gentle coastal breeze!
“Summer Breeze…makes me feel fine….”
Thanks Seals and Croft!
It doesn’t get any better than that.
Don’t ya love when you see a picture in a magazine and a plan comes together?
Blessings Always

Love your patriotic picnic! Everything looks beautiful and YES, I love it when a plan comes together! We can’t seem to get out from under all of the rain, which is unusual for Texas. Hopefully I can pull one together before too long! Love all of this! Love and hugs!!

Thank you Benita…I have been watching the weather and I can see how water logged some places are. Let’s hope it lets up soon. Hugs my friend.

Aren’t picnics fun Pam….now if we only had your beautiful gardens for a back drop, soft music and lovely weather….don’t look too close in your gardens…you might see picnickers LOL Tonight, the Captain and I are hosting our church group with a potluck at another park in our little city. Home made ice cream and cake too.
Have a wonderful day sweet friend.
