Friends!
I call you friends because we talk…ya know?
About all kinds of things, which is why my main category on this blog is called “Confessions-Over the Hedge.
Please tell me that I enlighten you.
Humor me.
Because there was a time, when I wondered if I would ever make a difference in this ole’ world.
I did want to become a singer and at one time memorized the words to songs dating back to the 1920’s from my mother’s sheet music collection.
Mom would sing me the melody and then I would sing the melody and lyrics like a canary.
I didn’t become a famous singer, although I did sing in church and I kept thinking if Elvis could be discovered, so could I.
Then I married and had children.
I know my family thought I made a difference… because I cooked, cleaned, did laundry and drove everyone to game practices, always on opposite ends of town.
I drove them to the skating rink and picked them up at all hours of the night…even though the cliff hanger to “Dallas” was about to tell me who shot JR!
But I am talking about something of substance.
And no, not even when I did impersonations of famous celebrities like Phyllis Diller (in the pic above)
I entertained many organizations by doing 20 minutes of jokes, dressed in a bright orange MuMu!! (kinda like a caftan) ….with fringe around the hem, with a blond spikey wig, gold elf shoes, white gloves and a foot long cigarette holder….void of any cigarette of course.
I’m talking about something important.
Like saving the whales or,…or… writing a novel or poetry and winning the Nobel Peace Prize.
I have written many novels and lots and lots of poetry.
I guess you have to actually publish them before the call from Sweden comes. ;(
I even learned to fly an airplane after my kids left the nest… and my nick name from my FELLOW pilots was Amealia Airheart!!!! (notice the different name spelling of the real Amelia Earhart.)
The real Amelia Earhart is in the below photo.
The encouragement I got from my flight instructor consisted of this sentence.
“If Aunt Bea from the Andy Griffith Show can fly an airplane…so can you!”
So I learned to fly.
But I didn’t fly solo across the Atlantic Ocean or Circle the World.
But I did give over 25 years to Boeing aviation…. and I started a blog.
I am not naive enough to think I will win a prize of any sort.
But I like to enlighten people.
Like showing you that there are about 10 restaurants in the Cape of SW Florida that claim to make the original Chicago Dogs!
I bet you didn’t know that did you?
And a few of them sell jars of that crazy lime green pickle relish that resembles the color of the river in Chicago, that they dye green on St. Patrick’s Day!
(and I don’t mean to offend any Chicago-ites, I actually like a Chicago dog with that relish and KETCHUP and mustard)
You didn’t know that did you?
Or that because I consider myself living in Paradise, that the Captain and I love to go to small restaurants on the water for breakfast.
You know the ones that have the cute little signs that make you smile.
Or did you know there is a burger joint here that features all kinds of badges of former policemen, firemen and first responders.
Pretty impressive, don’t ya think?
They definitely made a difference!
The sign to the top left of Barney Fife says : “I’m not old, I just think your music sucks.”
Enlightenment folks!!!
And what about these purple cake strips that you put around your layer cake pans?
They will keep your baked cake layers level and not looking like the single hump on a camel’s back!
(That is a dromedary camel and not a Bactrian camel!!)
Enlightenment, I tell you!
And don’t forget the loggerhead sea turtles.
This is their nesting time and when staying or living on the coast line of the Gulf of Mexico…we must turn out the lights… so they, the logger head turtles, are drawn toward the (light) horizon in the water and not towards your house.
Just sayin’
So, in retrospect, I guess I am doing my part!
Without me, some of you might not know all these revelations.
So maybe, just maybe…I enlightened a few of you.
And that is good enough for me.
Have a blessed day.

You are very accomplished! I am amazed at all you have done. One thing I’ve noticed about you is that you are an encourager. I read that in all your comments to others. You have blessed me with your encouragement. Thank you, Kari.

You are too kind Bonnie, thank you! The friends I have met through blogging are the best….and there is something to learn from everyone! I like to think of us as steel magnolias, when it gets tough, the tough get going. Hugs

Kari, you always enlighten and entertain me! I love it and I love that you are not afraid to try new things and to continue adventures all through your life. It’s the journey, right?! And as long as we are satisfied with our own accomplishments, why worry about anything else! I think you are Nobel Prize worthy!! Love and hugs sweet friend!
Kari says
Awe, thanks Benita….this blog has given me such sweet and loving friends and that is worth more than any awards or accolades. luv ya

Kari, you are quite accomplished my friend. Flying an airplane so.o is a pretty big deal. But, I am most impressed that you wanted to be a singer and that you did stand-up! Girlfriend, what have you not done? This is such a fun post and you are an excellent writer! You are a blessing to me😊
Kari says
thanks so much Pam, I have indeed been fortunate in all the things I have been a part of in my life. God Bless you.

I had quite a laugh reading this…yes, I have had a Chicago Hot Dog and pizza too! How fun that you learned how to fly…my sister and her hubby have 2 planes and love to fly…kudos to you! … it’s not too late to be discovered!!
Kari says
Thanks Shirley, one never knows, huh? LOL
Flying is amazing…the Captain flies for a living and he always says he has the best office window in the world…and having flown myself, I have to agree and add one more plus…I learned to fly at night and there is nothing like being in the air with all the stars….overlooking all the lights of cities, etc.
Thanks for stopping by.

You’ve certainly enlightened me, Kari. Love the behind-the-scenes you, being both Phyllis Diller and Amealia Earhart (too funny). Love that restaurant sporting the first responders’ badges. You’ve had a Chicago hot dog, but have you had a West Virginia hot dog? It’s all about the addition of coleslaw. We even have a mile marker denoting the slaw line in our state, still a point of contention between the North and South. 🙂
Kari says
no Rita, I have not had a West Virginia Dog, so I will have to try that. How funny with the mile marker! Love it!!!
Sorta reminds me of Carolina BBQ compared to Kansas City BBQ…I think they add cole slaw to their pulled pork whereas in KC …it is just good ole’ BBQ…with perhaps potato salad and cole slaw on the side. LOL

And my friend.
Kari says
So true and so very thankful Sandy. Nothing else matters. He knew me when I was in my Mother’s womb! Last night at church Bible Study, Pastor Arlin addressed the Royal Priesthood and Heirs to the Kingdom. Thank you for being my friend and a sister in Christ. Hugs and Blessings Always.

So you can fly… whoa! Now that’s something!
And YOU are very important to me… because you deliver smiles to my iPad many times a week!
Chloe Crabtree says
What a fun post! No wonder we got along so well from the beginning, I too, thought I would be ‘important’ one day. I about the same as you…important to my family, but not so much to anyone else. But, that’s okay.
Kari says
yep Chloe,….we are indeed alike….we are loved for sure.
