As I stated in my first post…I am a sports fan or “sports nut” … IF you listen to the way some describe me. J I am a fan of the professional Baseball Team, the Kansas City Royals and the professional Football Team, the Kansas City Chiefs. My favorite College Basketball Team is the Kansas Jayhawks. As you can see there is a theme going on here. I grew up in Kansas so my loyalties go to these teams. This post is going to be about sports so if you are not as excited as I am about sports….you might be a little bored and that is ok. The Captain said when he married me that he was going to have to get as excited about sports (especially College Basketball) as I do or he would become a March widower when the NCAA tournaments are televised in March during what is known as March Madness.
There is an intense rivalry between the Kansas State Wildcats College Basketball Team and the Kansas Jayhawks and many in my family are houses divided as each person cheers for their favorite team whether it is the Jayhawks or the Wildcats.
However, right now the most front and center team is the Kansas City Chiefs! So far they are having a great year. If you follow sports, you will know that this has not always been the case. The Chiefs have had mediocre teams in the past with the exception of winning a Super Bowl in 1969. The past 44 years have not produced a winning record although there were a few times of going to the play offs but falling far short of Super Bowl material. I have had Season Tickets to their games until just recently. It became a little difficult to go to the weekly games in Kansas City while living in Florida so I gave up the tickets, but I have never given up on the Chiefs. There are many people who jump on the bandwagon (so to speak) when a team is winning, but I call myself a true fan because I supported the Chiefs when they were losing….and believe me, that was a lot in the last few years. Their record last year was 2-14 which means they lost 14 games and won only 2 games the whole season. BUT this year has proven that it is never too late. Under a new Coach, Andy Reid….and a new quarterback, Alex Smith …and changes in offensive and defensive coaches, the Chiefs are the only unbeaten team in the NFL this year! They have won 9 straight games! They are also the only team to hold their opponent to under 17 points. Hip Hip Hooray! Is it a fluke? Possibly. I try not to think further than the current game. Right now we are on a high and it feels so good after about 15 years of rebuilding. Each year I kept thinking …is this the year that the Chiefs are finally going to be “built”? J But, it is happening now, and I couldn’t be happier. The worst team in the NFL last year became the “first” team this year….at least for this week!
Even if we don’t win another game….it has been a party so far.
Please comment, I'd love to hear from you.
