Vermont Apple Syrup
This is a delicious syrup recipe that my Mother said came from one of her relative’s in Vermont..hence the name Vermont Apple Syrup. It is a recipe that uses real maple syrup, which can be expensive…but by adding the apples, it extends the syrup so you are getting more syrup for your money. And we are always looking for bargains…right?
I love this served over pancakes and as a treat for dessert, one can add a large ice cream scoop of ice cream drizzled with this syrup. Yummy!!!
- 3 tablespoons butter
- 3 cups of tart apples, thinly sliced or chopped (peeled or unpeeled)
- 3 cups of real maple syrup
- Put all ingredients in a heavy pot and simmer for 1 1/2 to 2 hours until desired consistency.
- Serve Hot
- This syrup is also good over vanilla ice cream as a dessert.
