Home Made Pizza Dough….I love pizza! It is one of my favorite meals…I think it is because you can change toppings by what you have in the fridge or what you have a “hankerin'” for!
Below is a never fail pizza dough. You can make the dough plain or add the herbs of your choice. Depends on your mood and what is in your pantry.
If I am in a hurry, I do two things….I buy a prepared pizza dough in the Deli Dept of my Super Market and add the Italian seasoning and garlic powder with a gentle kneading and continue with the directions above. The dough comes pre-made in a plastic bag….it is made daily at my deli dept.
OR…I make the dough below and put in the oven as stated…but when I have lots of time and we are having friends over for wood fired pizza, I use my pizza peel and my outdoor pizza oven. There is nothing like it…the Captain keeps the wood fire at the right temperature for a wonderful completely home made pizza.
However, you make your toppings, I hope you like this pizza dough!
Enjoy!
Me
- 1/2 cup warm water (about 110*)
- 1 envelope instant yeast
- 1-1/4 cups room temperature water
- 2 tablespoons of olive oil (I use EVOO,,,extra virgin)
- 4 cups bread flour
- 1-1/2 tsp. salt
- 1/8 teaspoon Italian seasoning (or less)
- 1/8 teaspoon Garlic powder (or less)
- Cornmeal
- Mix together warm water and yeast; let stand for 5 minutes or until frothy.
- Add room temperature water and olive oil to the yeast.
- Place flour, salt, Italian seasoning, and garlic into a stand mixer; mix slightly.
- Mix in yeast mixture; switch to dough hook once dough comes together.
- Knead for 5 to 8 minutes.
- Cover and let rise for 1 1/2 hours or until doubled.
- After risen, separate into 2 equal pieces.
- At this point, you can freeze them - wrap them in saran wrap and then place in a ziploc bag. Defrost in refrigerator overnight.
- Roll out dough on a lightly floured surface.
- Place a little cornmeal on your peel (or you can use any cookie sheet or pan).
- Transfer your dough onto the pizza peel and prick with a fork.
- Bake between 400* to 450* for 8 to 10 minutes.
- Top with desired toppings and bake 10 to 12 more minutes.
- If I am in a hurry, I do two things....I buy a prepared pizza dough in the Deli Dept of my Super Market and add the Italian seasoning and garlic powder with a gentle kneading and continue with the directions above.
