Cherry Vanilla Chocolate Floats….so yummy!
One evening a few weeks ago, the Captain and I had a hankerin’ for a root beer float! So we made a quick trip to the market to get root beer and vanilla ice cream.
While there, we started looking at the different ice cream flavors and toppings for ice cream….we looked at each other with that onery look and wicked smiles and decided to mix up a concoction of something we both liked from years ago.
Hey! if it was good then for one of us…if we combined the favorite flavors for both of us…we ought to come up with a simply delish delight! Right?
So a light bulb went off! Well, not really a light bulb, but we came up with a great idea… and we decided to make up a cherry vanilla chocolate float.
Chocolate coated scoops of cherry vanilla ice cream… topped with black cherry soda for a refreshing cherry chocolate treat.
Reminds me of the days of visiting the ole soda fountain in the tiny little town I grew up in.
As teenagers, we used to mix up all kinds of flavors…like Cherry Phosphate, Cherry Coke, Chocolate soldier, Chocolate Coke. Lime Coke, Cherry 400, Cherry Vanilla Coke..and on and on and on! 🙂
And yes, I also put peanuts in my coke! 🙂
Savory and Salty! YUM!
And ya know ya just can’t go wrong with cherry, chocolate and vanilla can you?
Did you have a favorite mixture that you liked at your friendly soda fountain?
Enjoy this one….it is a keeper!
The Captain and I really like this float!
Oh, we still have that root beer waiting on a float! 🙂
Me
- 1 pint cherry vanilla ice cream
- *1 bottle Chocolate Fudge Flavor Topping or a hard shell chocolate topping
- 1 (20 ounce) bottle black cherry soda
- Assemble by placing two scoops of ice cream per tall glass (at least 12 ounce size)
- Fill glasses two-thirds full with black cherry soda.
- *If using chocolate syrup, pour a little syrup over each scoop of ice cream.
- Serve immediately with iced tea spoons and straws.
- *If you would like your ice cream chocolate topping to "cling" to your scoops of ice cream, you can put the scoops of ice cream on a plate with foil and place in the freezer to chill for a few minutes. Using a hard shell chocolate flavor topping, pour over each scoop. (the chocolate will cling like an chocolate on an ice cream bar) These can be put in the freezer until ready to assemble.

Kari, you made me homesick for the Olsen’s Drug Store in our small town. I loved everything there, especially, cherry coke, root beer floats and a ton more things.
Your recipe sounds delicious.
