When Opportunity Knocks…..I can’t resist a bargain!
Yesterday, I did a spot check on the painter at one of our Flip houses and saw that he was doing a great job of touch-up painting around pot lights we recently installed in the kitchen area.
As I left the Flip House and went around the corner and down one block…there were several young lads moving furniture out onto the lawn.
I also saw several cars parked helter-skelter, which is a good indication of a sale of some sort… and peeking out from under a bush was a little inconspicuous “garage sale” sign…though this was far from a simple garage sale.
This was a moving-everything-in-the-house-out-on-the-lawn-sale!!!!
So I came to a screeching stop,…. my eyes darting from piece to piece withering in the hot Florida sun!
Can I tell you that I jumped straight up and turned left….that is my way of saying I became very excited!
The first piece I saw was a console table and matching shelf in a hideous blonde color….but my mind was racing.
Perfect for a little girls bedroom and I could picture it painted white or pink…. and stuffed with dolls and other little “girly” things.
By the way, I have been using this most wonderful product, called chalk paint on a few things that I have refurbished for staging furniture and I love the way this paint changes pieces of furniture!
I recently used chalk paint (which is not chalk at all) on a large pig. You see, I have had this rather large pig (actually life size for a partially grown piglet) ….for quite some time and I decided to give him a little character….and I used chalk paint and I really like the results of this paint on just about everything! But I digress, that is a post for another time.
I am talking bargains here, people!
I next spied a table with four chairs and two extra leaves.
I quickly asked a price on all the items …as by now there were shoppers everywhere…literally buying up pieces where they sat in the house, …before the young lads could move them outside.
Well, actually…that was what I was doing too…that is where I found the china cabinet to match the table and chairs!
After I negotiated on asking prices with the owner, I was faced with how to put all this furniture in my convertible!
Don’t judge me friends ;)….I once went to a cattle auction (just to look) and ended up buying two…, Holstein, day-old baby calves for my twins’ 4-H project. I put them in the back seat of my car!!! (placed them on a blanket of course)
Yes, we lived on a ranch, and yes, we had cattle trailers, but the trailers were 20 miles away and I was livin’ in the here and now.
Another story for another time! 😉
Shamelessly, I drove back to the flip house and enlisted the help of the painter and his truck…. to pick up and move the furniture into the garage of the Flip house! (The Captain was flying, so I had to quickly think on my feet)
We are talking staging furniture here folks and I have two flip houses to “fill up” and stage!
Hey, the guy threw in the centerpiece which was made up of birds of paradise flowers….now who could pass that up? 😉
When opportunity knocks…one must be ready at the door with coat and hat in hand…or as in this case, a painter and his truck.
Have a great day my dear readers….I’m off to find the right color of chalk paint for my projects!

what an amazing stoke of good fortune.. The pieces look wonderful quality and will a beautiful edition to the settings in your flips.
I can see you have the Buy Now and sort it later… attitude and I’m sure the Captain was pleased with your acquisitions too.
Didn’t they have any flamingos for the front lawn?
love and hugs from across the pond x

Yes, my dear dancing friend from across the pond…the Captain was very pleased with my purchase….but as I said he was even more pleased he didn’t have to do any heavy lifting! 🙂 I am currently painting the pieces with the wonderful Chalk paint I have discovered and I am going to distress them…I will post pics when I get the pieces done.
You know, the flamingos would be a “nice” touch….she says tongue n’ cheek I could probably drive down any street in Florida and find at least one or two. 😉
