Color Me Pink! Ok, my dear readers…..can we talk color today?
Yes, this is the beginning of a new year and some of us will take the opportunity to “Paint” something! It could be a room in your house or the outside of your house or perhaps just your porch or patio. I don’t know about you, but I love to change things around a bit….in certain rooms of my home. You know what is strange about that? I am so traditional, that I usually leave the main rooms alone…like the living room and Master bedroom…but I change up bath rooms and utility rooms….which is what I am preparing to do within the next few weeks. Right now, I am in the “planning” stage!
First up, I really don’t pay that much attention to “trends”, but I thought you might like to know what the “experts” are saying about the color (or colors) for 2016.
Each year, the Pantone Color Institute selects a color to reflect (and influence) fashion trends and home design decisions for the coming year. For the first time ever, Pantone selected two Colors of the Year for 2016: Serenity and Rose Quartz.
These beautifully soft blue and pink tones artfully balance warm and cool to convey a sense of peacefulness. According to Pantone, “Rose Quartz is a persuasive yet gentle tone that conveys compassion and a sense of composure. Serenity is weightless and airy, like the expanse of the blue sky above us, bringing feelings of respite and relaxation even in turbulent times.”
And I have to say, I personally love both of these colors….in fact, I have the pretty pink dishes in the above photo and used them for a wonderful Tea Party I had for a few ladies last Summer. (See Mad Hatters Tea Party! and Ladies Afternoon Tea at Miller Manor)
I really enjoyed planning and setting up this tea party with the Pretty in Pink theme. For those of you who know me pretty well. you know that I love theme parties and tablescapes.
Having said that, I don’t want to paint my guest bathroom Rose Quartz!
Have you ever wished you could see what your room would look like before you actually spent $$ on a color of paint? I don’t care how many swatches of paint you put on your wall…a swatch, even 3 foot by 3 foot, just doesn’t capture what the whole room will look like with the new color, does it?
But guess what? There is an “app” for that. My goodness, there are Apps for everything aren’t there? Below is the “Project Color” App from Home Depot. It is a free App which makes it even better.
The above pics are only a small sampling….there are lots of choices within each color. You simply use your fingers too do the painting. You can paint one wall or all walls…you can even paint the woodwork to see what the monotone color might look like. I do like this App from Home Depot!
Below is the before pic of the bathroom I would like to give a new look. The current color is a light sage green.
The painting process is simple. You use your phone to take a picture of your room and then you choose from the huge color selections…. and with one click…Waaaah Laaaaah!!!…. your room is painted and you have not spent a dime on paint, nor is your room looking like a mis-matched checkerboard of colors, as you wait for sunlight or shadows to determine what the room might possibly look like painted.
So, I tried the pretty blue color just for grins and giggles….the above pic is the blue of Serenity….looks ok, but to me it looks like a baby’s room.
And the pink??…not working for me, because there are no windows in this bathroom, the color looks almost lavender or mauve.
Soooo I tried a lighter pink and it actually did go to the lavender side of the color wheel.
Nope! Those colors are definitely out, altho with this app, I can “save” them in case I change my mind! No, my friends, I am looking for a more neutral color…..I am thinking in the light grays…., who knows what color I will come up with but I will be having fun as I choose.
Have you seen or worked with this color app?
Maybe….since the room is already dark, a charcoal color with glossy white woodwork? Hmmmmm…..
Have a great day, my dear readers…I am going to keep “painting” away as I sit at my desk. 😉

Okay, you caught my attention when you started talking about pink, so I decided to read the rest. I wouldn’t have though if I’d known you were going to talk about paint. lol
When I was young my favorite color to wear was pink.
