Office/Studio/Sewing/Gift Wrap Room Update.
I am so excited about my new office and want to share a few of the changes that have been made.
Particularly,……the sewing room part.
In the past, I have had to sew in my laundry room sitting on a high stool and knocking my knees on the cabinet below that houses our two built-in laundry doors.
OR…drag the sewing machine into the kitchen table area which is in the “open” area for all to see who pass into our home.
Really not conducive to sewing.
Especially because when I am a sewing, I do not want to be interrupted during my sewing project.
I’ve been known to “lose” my place or skip a step when I once leave and return.
And, certain people….namely the Captain…. has been known to use my sewing scissors if they are in plain site and in neutral territory and I have left the scene.
And we all know how cutting twine or paper can damage a good pair of scissors.
There can be a lot of loud voices going on when that happens. 🙂
I am still rounding up thread, needles and items that have made their way to my night stand when I sit to hem or sew on a button while watching TV.
So having everything in one place is awesome.
First I will tell you that my sewing work space is 10 feet long and 30 inches deep.
Amazing! No more fabric laying on the floor or slipping off the dining room table.
The pieces were not expensive because I bought 3 five drawer cabinets and placed 2 five foot tabletops on them!
I bought them at IKEA!
Don’t ya just love that store? Especially for projects like this one.
You probably noted the brown peg board that is waiting to be painted white and hung to the right of the wrapping center. It is also waiting for the little metal pegs that will hold all my tools, such as hammer, pliers, screwdrivers, etc. I will post pictures when I get that part of my project finished.
There is still “stuff” to be put away and for right now, these things are residing under the table top.
The pic below is one of my drawers to the right of my sewing machine….I need to put a few organizers in these drawers to hold all my sewing notions.
I have so many drawers that it is difficult to decide where I want to put what.
Oh, I have to share with you a pair of my electric scissors.
Yes, they are old….if any of you remember Montgomery Wards…you will recognize the name on the electric scissors and they still work, believe it or not. 🙂
Previously, I shared with you a pic of my gift wrapping center that hangs on the wall at one end of the 10 foot work space. I will show you more on that at a later date.
But for now, let’s talk spools of thread.
Over the years, I have stored my thread in a large plastic container with a handle, but because it is old….the top tray that held thread was too short for the taller spools of thread so they were tossed in the bottom or stuck in my night stand.
Now….they are organized by color on a thread rack that hangs on the wall and I LOVE it.
I actually have a smaller one that I will transfer the bobbins to…..but for now it holds 60 spools of thread (or bobbins).
I am still “living” with the arrangement and I am seriously considering framing the rack with a picture frame and painting it white.
Do you do that?
You know move a piece of furniture and leave it while you determine if that is where you really want it to stay?
Well, that is what I am doing in my Office/Studio/Sewing/Gift Wrap Room.
I will share other areas of this room with you as I get it all together.
Have a great week-end!
Hugs and Blessings
