Sometimes I Feel Like A Cat On A Hot Tin Roof!!!
You know what I am saying here?
It is like no matter where I land, it is a hot spot and I need to “get-er-done” and move on to the next hot spot!
And believe me when I say that late July and early August in Florida are hot spots all on their own!
Can you just picture a cat jumping around on a hot tin roof! 🙂
Literally!
The temps the last couple of weeks in SW Florida have been in the mid to upper 90’s!
Say what?
And I found that I couldn’t escape it!
Yep, and the Captain and I went on a little trip up to Georgia thinking we might get a bit of a reprieve, but we found it just as hot up there as down here.
So when it gets Hot! Hot! Hot!….I slow down, down, down!
I find that I say “no” more often in the hot summer months and I try to relax and enjoy life at a much slower pace.
But for some reason I had made commitments…most likely in the cool of the Winter months and came to regret my eagerness to complete whatever needed completion, as the thermometer soared!
But this cat finally did a slow, heat melt down, and I actually quit jumping altogether and decided to stop and smell the roses.
Actually, the roses are wilted so it is more like stopping to smell the salt air as it drifts in from the coastline.
But stopping I did.
These last few days have found me rising at zero dark thirty and grabbing my cup of hot green tea and heading out to the Lanai…..
…….or The Secret Garden,
……depending on which way I turn after making my tea. 🙂
And I have my private time. My daily devotions. My recharging. My refreshing of spirit and soul!
And it is then, that I feel one with nature awakening round about me.
I especially love listening to the water features as the 3 tiered-fountain (Secret Garden) or the waterfall (Lanai Courtyard) bubble and drip and spill into their basins…. and they, the sounds, give me solace.
The birds singing their early morning songs make me smile as they flutter from palm to palm.
I love watching the little green and brown gecko’s as they scurry about and when they abruptly stop in their tracks, I smile because I know how hard it is not to move a muscle and yet they do it with ease.
They are so cute to watch.
Lately, we have had beautiful blue-green dragonflies swooping down to the water’s edge and I silently thank them, because I know they are removing gnats or mosquitoes or other troublesome insects.
Life is good.
God is good.
The moral my friends, is I find that if I rest properly, I am energized for whatever routine task pops up either planned or unexpectedly.
So my dear friends, if you have found yourself jumping on a hot tin roof…take some time for yourself to relax and re-energize.
Proverbs 17:1
Better is a dry morsel and quietness with it Than a house full of feasting with strife.
Have a great and blessed day!
