This may sound silly to some.
But I think things like this, are what keep a marriage fresh.
You know I am the eternal romantic and I am going to share something private with you because..
…..well, because you are my friends and I am keeping it real.
Most of you know the Captain flies all over the country…many times out of the country and sometimes he flies very near where we live.
He always stays in a hotel at the end of his day……and is up and flying, sometimes by 5 or 6 a.m. the next day.
If he flies within an hour of our home and his work day is ending…(and most days he knows in what city he will end up, of course that is always up for change, see the post here explaining more details)…..he will call me or text me and we play a game.
The conversation goes something like this….my phone rings.
“hello!...” I say, knowing by my phone ID that it is my husband.
“Hi!….are you busy tonight?” he asks with a bit of swagger pretending to be a stranger.
“…why do you ask?” I reply coyly.
“How would you like to spend the night with a pilot?” now he is really sounding confident.
And here is where I try to get cute or funny and I say…
“Wow! Yes!!!! Do you know of one?”
At this point he laughs and tells me that he will be in a city near me and would I (and Jesse James) like to come have dinner with him and spend the night in the hotel.
Of course, I say yes.
I know it is a bit corny by this is what we do.
I usually have only a couple hours to prepare for the overnight trip, which requires no prep other than to grab an overnight bag for me and Jesse James (I take his little bed, a baggy of dog food, his car seat and his carrying tote on wheels.)…and off we go.
I have to tell you it is such fun as I jump in my convertible, top down, with Jesse in the front passenger seat wearing his hat and sunglasses too….as we drive off to our rendezvous.
I have a nice dinner with my husband and the next morning, Jesse and I drive home.
Yesterday, about 3:30 p.m., I received “the call” from my husband. He was in Florida.
After going through our little charade, he told me he would be in Naples that evening and could I meet him about 5 ish.
Of course I said yes…even though I had planned on going to a function that would have lasted an hour, I decided that my husband was more important.
And then….I received a text from him that said…“Don’t leave. We are now going back to Georgia. 🙁 ”
I took this in stride because in his flying, he can be sent anywhere at a moments notice.
I texted back…”No worries”
About 20 minutes later I received another text…it said “Never mind. we are not going to Georgia. I will be in Naples.”
And so we hop in the car for our leisurely drive South.
Jesse James and I arrived at the hotel in Naples about 5 p.m.
The Captain had made reservations for 5:30 and we had a lovely dinner…..
and a lovely evening and we were up at 5 a.m., ready to drive the Captain and his co-pilot to the airport for their early morning flight.
On our way home, I realized how fortunate we are that the Captain and I can keep things spontaneous and still have fun with our every day routine.
Silly?
Perhaps…but what fun we have and I have to confess…my heart does a little flip flop as I drive to our rendezvous.
Forgive me, I can’t help but admire him and what he does every day as he soars through the skies …..
….. he has been flying since he was 16 years old.
He has piloted almost all the different models of airplanes and a helicopter too.
Sigh!
But I digress.
Do you ever do anything spontaneous and silly?
I would love to hear about it.
Have a great and wonderful day.
