I know you song birds out there remember the song from “The Sound of Music” …called ‘My Favorite Things’.
Don’t make me sing it for you.
Ok.
I will sing it,…. but you can sing along with me.
“Raindrops on roses
And whiskers on kittens
Bright copper kettles and warm woolen mittens
Brown paper packages tied up with strings
These are a few of my favorite things
And whiskers on kittens
Bright copper kettles and warm woolen mittens
Brown paper packages tied up with strings
These are a few of my favorite things
Cream-colored ponies and crisp apple strudels
Doorbells and sleigh bells
And schnitzel with noodles
Wild geese that fly with the moon on their wings
These are a few of my favorite things
Doorbells and sleigh bells
And schnitzel with noodles
Wild geese that fly with the moon on their wings
These are a few of my favorite things
Girls in white dresses with blue satin sashes
Snowflakes that stay on my nose and eyelashes
Silver-white winters that melt into springs
These are a few of my favorite things”
Snowflakes that stay on my nose and eyelashes
Silver-white winters that melt into springs
These are a few of my favorite things”
Sigh!
I LOVE that song.
So what prompted me to share a few of my favorite things with you today?
Lunch!
With a dear friend.
You see ‘dear friend’ and I were talking after our lunch of soup and salad at Perkins….
….I know. it is a chain, but the Captain and I love to go there and so do many of our friends.
But I digress.
And “dear friend’ admired my pink hand bag as I was taking out my money to pay for my lunch, (we usually go dutch)…and she said:
“That is the perfect size of handbag and I have been wanting a new one. About how wide is it?”
And I said, “I dunno, let’s measure it”! And I pulled out a small tape measure from my purse and gave her the measurements.
Later, as we were in my car, still in the parking lot and buckling up… (we take turns driving and it was my turn to drive), she was picking at her pointer finger.
Being the nosy concerned friend that I am, I said “What are you doing?”
‘Dear friend’ said: “This morning, I was trimming back my bougainvillea and I got a thorn stuck in my finger, I thought I got it out, but apparently there is still a part of it in my finger.”
And, as good friends do…I jumped to her rescue …again opening my handbag and handing her my tweezers, which happen to also have an LED light built into them.
She looked at me astonished and proclaimed:
“Are you a girl scout?… Are you always prepared? …What all do you have in that hand bag?”
I laughed as she used my tweezers (and because of the concentrated light), she was able to remove the remainder of the thorn.
I explained that I was always needing a tape measure when I was shopping in brick & mortar stores, (which is a rarity, as I love to shop on line), …so I began carrying a tape measure many years ago.
If the Captain and I were in Lowes or Home Depot…he was always looking for a tape measure.
I further explained that I carried the lighted tweezers because it was a two-fer when I bought them.
I felt I needed a tweezer with the light because I could not see that pesky, stray chin hair that haunts me to this day or that eyebrow hair with my naked eye.
And since there were two to a package, one pair of tweezers went into my make-up bag.
My ‘dear friend’ asked…“what else do you have in there?”
So I proceeded to pull things out of my handbag and make up bag to show her.
As she “oohed and awed” over the contents, I got to thinking that perhaps a few of my readers might like to see what I carry.
So here goes.
As you also know, I share a few of my favorite things with you from time to time.
And no, this is not a post filled with ads for each of these items.
I will tell you where I got them if you are interested, but I will not get any kick-back, etc.
I bought a pink leather purse a couple years ago, and I dig it out in the Spring or Summer.
And here is what I typically carry, subject to daily indecisions of course.
LOL
A wallet of course, with credit card holders, coin purse, paper money and of course drivers license.
Perhaps you might find an odd (to you) item as we look through my hand bag.
I always carry a lip balm of some sort, (I live in Florida, ya know)
And this one is a bee balm which is oh so soft and moistens my lips….especially if I am flying.
It is by Josie Moran, has argon oil and it is called “Work It Vanilla”.
I like to refresh under my eyes with an ‘under the eye rejuvenator’, especially if I am out in the direct sun for a long period of time.
This one by Osmotics is the one I use all the time.
I carry a lipstick with an oh so pretty case, this one is a coral/pink that I found on line at a Nordstrom’s sale and I love it as it is soooo creamy!
It is by Yves Saint Laurent, Rouge Volupte` Shine, oil in a stick, and it is called, …..are you ready for this?
Coral Aviator!
I kid you not!
Also in my make-up bag, I carry a roll on perfume, this one has pink hearts and I love the fragrance.
It is by Tory Burch and it is called ‘Love Relentlessly”…..of course it is!
One always needs a mirror right?
This also has a magnifying side.
I found this pink and gold one on line and had my name put on it. (It was free with purchase)
On this day, I am carrying a pink beaded bracelet and a bronzing highlighter for touch ups!
The bronzing highlighter is by Becca and is called Champagne Pop!
The pink bottle is a lip gloss made by Ulta and was one of those “freebies” when you buy an eye shadow palate or lip duo…anyway the color is ‘Luna’!
Folks, you can’t make this up.
Me! Romance! The Captain, a pilot, ‘Villa de la Luna’ plaque in our home entry foyer.
Just sayin’
In the background on the above photo, you see a hot pink item and that is an automatic IPhone charger.
It always has a charge and if I find my cell phone is losing it’s charge, I just plug it into to this cordless and wireless charger.
Moving on.
One always needs a pen and why not a pretty one or two?
So I have a copper pen with a “diamond” top and a gold one with a pearl top.
Of course the pearl and diamond are not real.
Pity the poor shell that would have to work tirelessly to make a pearl that large, although the large diamond could be produced in the mines; but if it were real, I wouldn’t be typing these words to you today…Just sayin’ LOL
Sunglasses!
I know….aren’t these pink ones adorable?
They are made by Prive` Revaux, and I have about 4 or 5 pair of them.
I am very hard on sunglasses and so I refuse to buy those expensive brands.
(These were only 29.00)
I love the triangle shaped black glass case that folds down to a flat rectangle when you are wearing your glasses.
The case can go in your back pocket.
I have these glasses in a blue aviator, white retro and black oversized “Jackie O” type of sunglasses.
I always wear oversized sunglasses as I feel they protect the eye area.
And last, but not least, the infamous tape measure… along with a bottle of pink nail polish and my passport.
I normally don’t carry my passport with me every day, but I had let it expire (ten years is a long time to remember the expiration date) and had to go get a new one.
I know!
And isn’t this charm the cutest ever?
I bought it to put on my hand bag.
I have lots of “charms” but I think I like this one the best.
And in addition to my small make up bag, I also carry another small bag …or in the zippered pouch, if there is one built into my hand bag.
More of my favorite things include the usual for most of us ladies.
A small packet of Kleenex, extra car keys, (you never know when I might lock a set in my car), a small bottle of hand sanitizer, a pair of silver hoop ear rings, dental floss, my day timer, (yes I know it can be on my phone), a small paperback book or magazine I am wanting to read, and of course my IPhone!
And I have been known to scuttle items (or lighten my load) and leave them in my car, if I am “toting” my hand bag a long way or for a long period of time.
Do you have anything unusual in your hand bag?
What are your favorite things?
Or do you carry less?
Do tell….inquiring minds want to know.
Blessings Always.

This is the ultimate girly post!! A pink passport, who knew? My passport expired many years ago and you can bet I will try to get a pink one next time. I also plan to have lighted tweezers real soon. Also, it just so happens that I have a pink handbag but there’s always a chance another will catch my eye. Thank you so much for sharing this♥

Each time I buy a new bag, it’s bigger than the last! My bag is heavy and it’s hurting my shoulder but I need every item that’s inside my bag!
Kari says
I do too Veronica….and if I leave something out of my hand bag…I find that I need it. 😉 Sometimes, if I am walking a distance, I ask the Captain to carry it for me and he is so good about doing it. Yay! thanks for stopping by …I appreciate every comment.

Love that song and all of your favorite things! I carry little to nothing in my tiny purse and am seldom prepared when I’m out and about! 🙂 Love and hugs sweet friend!
Kari says
I hear ya friend….and when I don’t want to pick up the tab or buy groceries with the Captain….I just carry my phone. LOL
Everyday Living says
Kari, your bag must be heavy! I do love all the pink and that charm is my favorite thing that you are carrying. But, I must admit there are some fun items hiding in your handbag. I used to always carry a tape measure when I was shopping for clients, but not anymore. I have to keep my bag light with only the necessities, otherwise my shoulder hurts…you know the age thing! It was fun to peek inside yours. Have a wonderful day my friend!
Kari says
Surprisingly, the only time my bag is heavy is if I carry the day timer. LOL and a bottle of water…Haha

I love how all your things are color coordinated and looking pretty special, each and all! I love YSL nail polish so I bet the lipstick is as amazing as you say. Cool things: the lighted tweezers, the folding sunglass case. I’ll say one thing as an antique purse collector…..we ladies would’ve never made it back in the day when a mesh bag would barely hold a coin, tissue and single key!
Kari says
For sure Rita…and they usually and a lot of junk in their trunk with bustles etc. LOL I sometimes think all that fabric could hide a multitude of sins but gosh no AC either….pretty warm and the bottoms of their skirts had to get dirty real quick. Haha
Donna Nance says
I am always fascinated what women carry in their purses. One blogger I follow referred to her large tote as an “adult diaper bag”. lol
Kari says
LOL, Donna, that is funny…thank you so much for stopping by.
Chloe Crabtree says
Your bag seems to be like Mary Poppins’ magic carpet bag! I could not possibly keep all of that in my purse, but I sure would like to have all of those things on hand should I need them. I sure love all of the pink stuff!!
Kari says
thanks Chloe, I like to be prepared. LOL
Darlene says
Wow! And I thought I had a lot in my purse. Everyone always comment on how heavy it is😀
Kari says
Darlene that is always an issue, making sure one can still carry it without hurting your shoulder or back. LOL thanks for stopping by.
