A German Christmas Tablescape.
I have had these beautiful bright red Vintage Waechtersbach Christmas Tree dishes for a long time.
And because I have an Irish background and red hair…I have always loved these candy apple red dishes.
Don’t ask me why one has anything to do with the other.
These days I sometimes don’t make sense.
Do you remember Maxine the cartoon character?
Yes, I pair age and chemo with not making sense. LOL
Back to these Waechtersbach dishes.
I actually used part of the set in this post.
I love the candy apple red against the stark white and hunter green design.
Waechtersbach ceramics was a German ceramics manufacturer in Brachttal near Wächtersbach, which was founded in 1832 by the Prince Adolf of Ysenburg and Büdingen of Isenburg-Wächtersbach.
They are no longer in business, but for awhile they made some of the most colorful stoneware.
I’m not sure why I have not set a complete table with these dishes for a styling blog hop.
Perhaps it is because I usually have huge Christmas trees all decorated in themes…yes, I have put up 13 Christmas trees in previous years with different themes adorning the 12 and 9 foot high Christmas trees.
I have not decorated that many trees since just before my illness.
The dining table is close to the place where we usually placed a 12 foot tree and I guess I did not want a brightly set of dishes competing with the tree.
And since this place setting is pretty dominate on a table, I have refrained from using the whole set of dishes.
Lately, I have been cutting back on my decorating and decided this was the year to bring the bright red color front and center.
A complete opposite of my neutral and almost monotone of my Thanksgiving tablescape here.
I started with a hunter green tablecloth, adding a white fur table runner down the center.
Next I searched my stash and found the snowflake glittered chargers that I used in a “Frozen” tablescape And my Silver and Gold tablescape, here.
The Waechtersbach dinner plate is next, followed by the matching salad plate.
I did not use the soup bowl as I felt that would be too much of a good thing, plus it hides the green and white Christmas tree and that is the whole point of this place setting.
The dinner napkin is white with a green tree encompassed in a Waechtersbach napkin ring holder.
I thought the water goblets resembled a Christmas tree, so I used them in place of the red ones that match the dinnerware.
The flatware is white handled with a green Christmas tree and is called Salem Christmas Eve.
I found them on Ebay several years ago.
There is a train going around the bottom of the tree among a Christmas village.
On the “snow” table runner, my centerpiece is from my hot chocolate bar, consisting of enameled containers for the cocoa mix, marshmallows and the “fixins” for topping of the hot chocolate.
I believe the cocoa, marshmallow and fixin’s containers came from either Pottery Barn or William Sonoma several years ago.
This particular table runner is a bit “fluffy”, as it hides some of the pieces on the centerpiece but I am imagining that is simply a midwest snow, which can drift in feet instead of inches.
The coffee pot, tea pot and salt & pepper shakers match the Waechtersbach dinnerware.
I actually have three sets of salt and pepper shakers on the table.
The Waechtersbach, green Christmas trees and the kissing Santa and Mrs. Claus.
There is also the tiered tidbit tray that will hold all kinds of Christmas goodies.
Even though there will be a meal served, I wanted to set up a dessert tray of colorful donuts.
The donuts are home made and some are a bit odd shaped but I am just keeping it real my friends.
Sometimes our creations don’t turn out exactly how we have pictured them in our heads, do they? LOL
The marshmallow fudge is always good isn’t it?
The place/name cards are a colorful emerald green color.
I have not put names on the cards yet as I haven’t sealed up the tentative invites!
I love how the emerald trees have almost the same “block” shape as the teapot and coffee pot.
Pier 1 was the source for the tree name cards many years ago.
We all miss Pier 1, don’t we?
I hope you picked up a few ideas for your own Christmas from my German Christmas Tablescape.
Thank you for stopping by and Have a very Merry Christmas as we remember the Reason for the Season.
Luke 2: 10-11

A big shout out to my friend Rita at Panoply whose organization skills never cease to amaze me. (Plus she also happens to be a “Big 12″ basketball fan, whoop! Whoop!”

Kari, I’m going to try to leave another comment — not sure what happened to my previous one. I love the bold impact of your Waechtersbach Christmas dinnerware. The graphical design is eye-catdching! It’s sure to make all your guests smile. A colleague at work came home from a visit to German Christmas markets and gave each of us a Waechtersbach Christmas Tree mug. My mini collection of their mugs in several holiday patterns thus began. The tree design though remains my favorite. It’s been fun hopping with you. Merry Christmas!

Who knows in this high tech world…I even had issues with my IPhone hanging up in the middle of a conversation several times in one day. LOL But thank you for coming back and trying again. and Thank you for your kind comments. I think I was first attracted to the Waechtersbach Christmas Tree collection when I saw the teapot and creamer and sugar. I loved the color and I loved the shape. Sigh…and my collection went ballistic and the rest is history. LOL
Myrna says
Kari. 13 trees! A woman after my own heart. I love the festive red dishes. A hundred women, a hundred different tablescapes; all made with love and history. As a cancer survivor, so sorry you are going through chemo. “All you can do is all you can do”
Kari says
Thank you Myrna….I’ve certainly learned what is important and what is not. It is through God’s amazing grace that I am still here in this world. I will continue to take each day one day at a time….and I am grateful. Thanks for stopping by. Happy Holidays
Shannon@Belle Bleu Interiors says
Kari, your German stoneware is so pretty and makes such a happy and festive tablesetting for Christmas. Your donuts and brownies look so scrumptious! I would love to have one with my tea this afternoon. Your entire table is just beautiful! I hope that you have a joyous Christmas season!
Kari says
Thank you Shannon. The Captain tells me that it is the taste that matters and not the pretty pretty pastries. I have to laugh at his loyalty to my shaky hands these days. I wish you and yours a very Merry and Happy Christmas as we remember the Reason for the Season. Blessings Always
Carole @ From My Carolina Home says
Oh, now I want a donut! Lovely table in bright red and green! Yes, I do think my butter spreaders may be of the same line as your napkin rings.
Kari says
Thanks Carol for your kind comments. Perhaps the only difference is the presents under the tree but the tree is certainly the same. Happy Holidays
Ann Krucek says
Kari, I am glad you were able to set a table with all of your Waechtersbach collection!! I love the snowy runner and your enamel ware cocoa fixings containers along with all of your adorable salt and pepper shakers! I can’t even imagine decorating 13 trees, wow! I hope you have a very merry Christmas season🎄🤶
Kari says
Ann, as I think back…I just wish I had the same energy as I did when we would do all the decorating. I did enjoy having an all white 12 foot tree as our main tree…but I loved the all red, all blue, all green, all pink, all purple, and ….well, you get the picture. LOL. Merry Christmas!
Mary says
Kari, I love traditional red and green color palette and your vintage Waechtersbach set is so festive for Christmas! I think your fluffy table runner might be my favorite element with it’s cozy texture and contrast to your dark green tablecloth. Love the sweet Christmas flatware and salt and pepper sets too! I’m marveling that you used to decorate 13 (!!) trees and 9 – 12 feet too!! I can’t even imagine…I feel like I’ve accomplished something when I get our 7-foot tree up and decorated. 😊 As always, it’s a treat to join you at the table and hop with you. Wishing you a Merry December and Christmas Season! 🎄
Kari says
Thanks for stopping by Mary….Yes, I used to have 9 foot trees in every room of our home, plus out in the Secret Garden, the courtyard, the Lanai, the pool area and the outdoor inner and outer foyer with a 12 foot tree in the great room. I haven’t put up but one tree these days and that is an effort as I still tire easily …so the Captain does all the hard and high stuff. Have a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year…we do have fun at these hops don’t we?
Sarah Anderson says
Kari, I’m back to try to leave a comment again. I love your red Christmas table. How fun to have the complete set of this German stoneware. I’m familiar with it, and boy does it set a pretty table. I think all your accessories are grand. What a festive table. Happy Holidays!
Kari says
Thanks for coming back Sarah…I guess WP had a problem with their system which had a lot of bloggers scrambling. Thanks for your kind comments and I wish you a very Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.
Kim Goddard says
Kari, I love love love this tablescape. The dishes are amazing! The silver placemats and snowy white table runner make these wonderfully brilliant red dishes just pop. The green Christmas trees on the salads are so cute, and your napkins, napkin rings, and flatware go perfectly with your theme. The matching tea set is delightful and how perfect is it that the WS/PB containers go so well on your centerpiece. The tree name cards are so cute – and yes, I miss Pier 1 terribly. The donuts look delicious by the way. I don’t know anyone who would not want to have a seat at your lovely table. I was reading through the comments and didn’t realize that WP was having issues so thanks for the heads up. Wishing you and the Captain and your family and very merry Christmas and a joyful holiday season!
Kari says
Thanks Kim….It was such fun to bring out all the pieces to this set. I just realized that I forgot to include a picture of the two tiered tidbit tray! 🥴 Oh well, if that is all I forgot…then that is a good day.🤗 Have a wonderful Holiday and coming New Year.

Hello sweet friend! Thank you for stopping by…I just wish we could get together as we did in the good ole’ TWA/American days. Memories are great though. Merry Christmas to you and Chuck and the girls and their families. Hugs and Blessings Always
Linda @LifeandLinda says
Kari, you set a beautiful Christmas table with your prized Waechtersbach dishes. How special to also have the coffee and tea collection. The cocoa The red and green pops and certainly speaks Christmastime. The white furry runner mimics snow. Even the flatware is lovely. So perfectly coordinated. The green goblets plus the cute emerald green placecards are so lovely. A welcoming and festive table to enjoy during the holidays. Wishing you and healthy and joyful holiday season. xo
Kari says
I have used the coffee and teapots and sugar and creamer many times during the Christmas season, but this was a first (I believe) to bring out the whole set and then I forgot to take a photo of the two tiered tidbit tray and the platter. 🥴 I do love how red the set is but it can be a dominating presence. Hugs and best wishes for the upcoming Holiday season my friend.
the Painted Apron says
hi Kari! I love your happy Christmas table of bright red, white and green! That china is special and I actually have a coffee mug in this pattern and it’s a favorite. The furry runner down the center on the green tablecloth looks great and I love the way it “hugs” the pots and cute salt and peppers. The snowflake plates and green stemware are perfect! Your napkin rings and tree card holders are cute too, and wow you even have Christmas tree flatware! I can’t believe you made those donuts, I thought you bought them from a donut shop! I hope you have a very blessed holiday season, Merry Christmas!
Jenna
Kari says
thanks Jenna…I almost didn’t use the donuts in the post because they were so…well so irregular, etc. But I decided that our readers deserve to know that we don’t always sport perfection in our posts,…sometimes if they could see what the camera hides behind the scenes…they would be shocked.🧑🎄
Thanks for stopping by my friend…and I wish you a very Merry Christmas and a Blessed New Year.
Rita C. says
Kari, I LOVE your Waechtersbach Christmas Tree set! Red and green are my Christmas jam, always, and I can never let myself lean into anything but. I just love how you have the entire set and are putting it all out for us this time. That furry runner is everything! It makes me think of times we’d just dive right into big piles of it. It’s really a cozy factor on your table, and the snowflake placemats a perfect contrast on the green tablecloth. The glass and place cards are great too, love the pops of green! Your witty sense of humor is so genuine – chemo and age. What’s the rest of ours’ excuse? Age alone?! Thank you, my friend, for being a part of this tablescaping group of stylists, and for your friendship. Merry Christmas season!
Kari says
Thank you Rita. It is always such fun to be a part of these hops as there is so much inspiration that no matter one’s budget, there are always ideas to adopt. Yes, I was glad I drug out the Waechtersbach Christmas Tree collection even though it dominates the room… it brings back so many memories of old fashioned Christmas’s past. I think old age has something to do with that too…we move so quickly in this day and age and now I understand my Mother’s preoccupation with her past. We all come full circle don’t we? I am more like my Mother every day…and that is a good thing. (I think)🥴 I will be thinking of you as the Big 12 moves forward with all the new teams. Times have changed, and we as a people changed it.
BTW…Our ‘blog host’ told us that WP had an issue yesterday and they became aware of it about 5 pm. It affected a lot of bloggers in that many lost a lot of post comments never to be recovered …however the posts would not be affected. I guess there was a lot of scrambling done all over the blogging world. Just an FYI
My dear friend, … Have a Merry Christmas and a wonderful New Year.
Debbee says
Kari, i love the festive table with those wonderful dishes that evoke a sense of nostalgia. Such a fun and welcoming tablescape! Wishing you a mos merry Christmas!

thanks Debbee…we missed you this go’round….you are always such an inspiration. Have a very Merry Christmas with your lovely family and an even better New Year.
Jan E. says
Kari, love how you think and your red connections. The Waechtersbach dish setting is so striking with all your matching pieces. The pattern on the green goblet does remind me of a tree and the name/place card holders are perfect with this table. The snowy runner certainly sets off the matching centerpieces. Wow, 13 trees. I can’t imagine all the time to decorate them. My husband wants me to do what my one friend did. (So he doesn’t have to drag the tree back to the attic.) She kept up her kitchen tree year round and decorated it according to the season.
How about McCullar last night? Those Missouri Tigers often give the Jayhawks a run for their money. We’ll be watching Saturday!
Kari says
Thanks Jan…as I said I don’t do as much these days and that is ok with me. I have a friend who leaves her tree up all year long and enjoys her morning coffee and devotions with the twinkling lights. I have another friend who has one of those collapsing trees and she just pulls it up and it snaps into place already decorated and takes it down the same way in seconds! LOL Thank you for your kind comments.
You know I never miss a Jayhawk game and you are right…McCullar has really stepped up his game of late. Dejuan Harris has always been good at “directing traffic” but I am happy he is taking more shots because he can usually make them. He is so unselfish though. I felt bad when we lost to Marquette and I know Bill Self does not like excuses but the guys all seemed to be affected by KJ’s loss of his mother… but that guy has been a trouper and he has also stepped up. As you and I have discussed before, when we are ranked at 1 or 2…other teams have nothing to lose and play extremely well against us. Mizzou has always carried a chip so that game will be tough. We will just have to play tougher. I know you and I will be on the same page on Saturday. Rock Chalk Jayhawk!

Beautiful, bold, table setting, Kari, in bright Christmas colors with such a great design. The choice of flatware was great and loved the Christmas tree design on the handles. the red and green color scheme works so well at the holidays. Gorgeous treats made me wish I was there to do some sampling. My favorite was Santa and Mrs Claus exchanging a kiss. Such cute salt and pepper shakers. Merry Christmas!
Lynne
Kari says
Thanks Lynne for stopping by. That table is certainly bright red and would wake anyone up for Christmas. LOL I used to be quite a cookie and baker to perfection. These days my hands are a bit shaky and I find myself thinking it is ok to have a few imperfections especially for our readers, it shows we are not perfect.
Have a great and Blessed Holiday.
Pam says
Kari, I love your German Christmas Tablescape, my friend. We were in Germany back in September and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. I have seen the Waechtersbach in different places for years. I should have known that you would own a set (lol)! Finally you pulled it out for us to see it in all of its vintage glory. Seriously, it is really pretty and certainly striking! The fluffy table runner and hunter green tablecloth are nice complements to the dishware! Your table really gives off the Christmas spirit in the traditional red and green colors of the season. The snowflake glittered chargers add a little bling to the handsome table! How did you possibly put up 13 trees? That makes me tired just thinking about it!! Please pass me some fudge and donuts. It is always a pleasure to hop with you my friend! Wishing you and the Captain a Merry Christmas season ✨❤️✨
Kari says
Thank you Pam…yes it was a lot of work putting up so many trees…the Captain helped and in later years we had our two cleaning ladies help. We had tall Christmas trees in every room of the house plus outside …in the Secret Garden, in the foyer and on the lanai and in the courtyard and pool area.
We also had a Christmas Open House with lots of baked cookies and cakes and other goodies. It became an annual affair that people looked forward to and have since said how they have missed it. We quit doing it just before I got sick… as we started traveling for Christmas,(since the Captain was usually working on Christmas day,) so we would fly to New York or Santa Fe or the Caribbean to celebrate Christmas instead of doing all that work. Now, I would not be able to do all that so we are fortunate if we have one tree up and decorated. The good news is I have a choice of ornament colors and ribbons as each of the 13 trees were a specific color. LOL My daughter says I should donate all that “decor” to Goodwill but I am such a softee that I don’t want to part with any of it. I really shouldn’t be so selfish… 🥴 and let someone less fortunate have it.
Oh, we did talk to our “blog host” and they said they became aware about 5 pm last evening…that there was a major issue with WP affecting a lot of bloggers and they were all working to rectify the situation. Thank you for your assistance with that. Lets hope it stays corrected. He did say we might lose all our comments but not the post itself. So I guess if anyone commented yesterday afternoon and evening, we lost those comments. I did have a few comment in the early morning and those came through.
Thanks for stopping by my dear friend, and Merry Christmas to you and yours.

Love and hugs, my friend♥️🙏🏻

Hi Kari,
Beautiful tablescape! Afraid I’m not in a Christmas mood this year, although I thank God for the many blessings, he’s given my family. Merry Christmas to everyone.

I love the brightness of the Vintage Waechtersbach Christmas Tree set. I think it’s cool that you have both the teapot and coffee pot! How cute! And the hot cocoa set in the center of your table looks like so much fun…and I think your furry runner does look like snow! I also love how your deep green tablecloth compliments the Vintage Waechtersbach Christmas Tree pieces so well. This is definitely a fun table, and your S&P sets are so cute! Merry Christmas! XO, Ricki Jill
Kari says
thank you Ricki Jill…I think that is why I have not set a table with the full set as it is really bright. Thank you for stopping by and have a Merry Christmas.

What a beautiful table! And all the deliciousness is fabulous too! Thank you for sharing your German Christmas Table with us. I enjoyed it very much!
Merry, Merry to you!

Thanks for stopping by Nancy. The table is certainly red, isn’t it? It was fun to set it up. Enjoy your time in Arizona, I know I sound like a broken record but I sure miss New Mexico. We are planning a trip back there early next year and It can’t be too soon for me. Blessings dear friend.

Thanks Jane!! Merry Christmas to you and Annie and Diane and Todd and of course your wonderful family.

Let’s hope 3rd time’s a charm! I was one of those “repliers”…(is that a word?) whose reply did not get accepted. I was told by Kari to try again, so here goes.
Just wanted to comment on Kari’s festive table setting and her beautiful German stoneware. I’ve never seen such a colorful display. Makes you not want to get the dishes dirty! One question…are they dishwasher safe? I would think that as much care and attention that was made for those dishes, plus the timeframe they were crafted, that they would definitely be hand wash only. I made a mistake when living in Cape Coral of putting some beautiful green bowls that I’d gotten from my grandmother’s house when she passed away in the 1960’s. You forget to check on that when quickly loading the dishwasher. Sadly, they couldn’t take the heat from the drying cycle. I only have 1 left. Hard lesson to learn.
Anyway, thanks Kari for sharing your holiday dinner table with us. The donuts 🍩 and marshmallow fudge look yummy. Reminds me of the holiday season when my mom would go all out….homemade rocky road candy, fudge, different colors of divinity, not to mention freshly made eclairs. She loved to that. Happy Holidays to all!
Kari says
Mele Kalikimaka!!!!!
Thank you my friend…I appreciate you and your tenacity to keep trying. Yes, your response finally went through. How sad that your grandmother’s dishes were ruined in the dishwasher. I have learned over the years if they are vintage, they must be hand washed. Crazing usually occurs and then they are ruined. I speak from experience.
These days, I know I am very nostalgic for all things Old Fashioned Christmas, maybe it is because we are getting older but I long for those days of going to grandma’s house for Christmas and being with my cousins and running in and out of the house much to the chagrin of Mom and Dad as it was cold with snow on the ground. We never had oodles of presents but it was enough. Family was enough. Our Faith sustained us.
I know your weather in Hawaii is about the same as here in Florida so I will just say Merry Christmas (Mele Kalikimaka! )to you and Bud as you will definitely NOT be shoveling snow as some of my readers are doing.
