Hi You’all…The following post was originally posted in 2018…but I decided to revive it because it contains the houses of two of my favorite Christmas movies.
There are so many funny lines in both movies and when Hurricane Ian hit Florida in 2022, we had a metal beam from our pool cage break through our slider door and slither across the room which triggered a line from the movie, Christmas Vacation.
I said to the Captain…“and why is the carpet all wet TODD”???? to which the Captain replied…“I don’t KNOW Margo!” 🤗
You probably had to be there to appreciate the humor in those lines.
I never tire of these two movies…perhaps you like them too.
I confess that I am hooked on old Christmas movies.
It would not be an amazing Christmas, if I didn’t see Clark drinking eggnog out of the glass moose cup and cousin Eddie wearing that ugly hat with the flap!
By the way I found the glass moose eggnog cup on Amazon several years ago and I couldn’t resist it.
“Clark”.…is a line that is used frequently in the movie “A Christmas Vacation” . Since Clark is always doing “something”, his wife continually pleads, “Clark”!!!
Another favorite line…. “no, you will shoot your eye out” is from the movie, “A Christmas Story”
“No you will shoot your eye out” is said by Ralphie’s mother when Ralphie tells her: “I want an official Red Ryder, carbine action, two-hundred shot range model air rifle”!
I know, I know…I love old Christmas movies and by this time, I am sure you are aware.
So I decided to come up with a tablescape using both of these movies’ houses as my centerpiece.
The Clark Griswold house also has a garage which is sold separately. (see it to the right above)
I was able to add the “RV” to the tablescape that cousin Eddie and his family bring to join in the Christmas festivities.
It is a beat up old RV and is adorned with Christmas lights.
I like that Clark’s house has three settings for the lighting.
One is inside lights much like my Victorian and Dickens Village houses.
The second switch is for the brightly lit, overly decorated house and garage, which caused a major electrical shut down of the city lights.
And the third switch is for the blinking lights.
Pretty over the top, much like Clark’s house in the movie.
And of course I had to add the oversized Christmas tree atop the old family roadster!
I also have the figurine of Clark plugging the lights into a socket that once lit, the electric meter on his house goes around and around like Kyle Busch driving at the Talladega Superspeedway Race track.
Then there is the cousin Eddie figurine, in his night shirt and fur hat emptying his chemical toilet into Clark’s sewer.
That is way over the top….and I love to sit and look at this tablescape.
On the other end of the table is Ralphie’s house where he lives with his mother and father and younger brother.
Mr. Parker wins a prize and it is the ugliest lamp of a woman’s leg with a lampshade.
Mrs. Parker doesn’t like it, but her husband insists it be put in the front window of the house to show it off to all the neighbors.
Meanwhile, little Ralphie wants a red ryder BB gun for Christmas.
He saw it in the window of the downtown department store and that is all he can think about.
There is a scene of the school yard and flag pole where one of his friends accepts a dare to stick his tongue on the frosty pole and it sticks painfully to the pole.
Another scene is where Ralphie is dressed in a onesie pink rabbit pajama that his aunt has sent him for Christmas….his glasses all askew.
And I love the figurine of Ralphie helping his brother to stand up. His snow suit is so stiff that he can hardly walk in it and he falls over in the snow as they are on their way to school.
And finally a scene where Ralphie and his friends are running from bullies.
I know, I know…there is no help for me. LOL
In the center of the table, separating the two separate vignettes is a Santa Claus with his sleigh and reindeer flying off into the evening.
At the base of the trees is a nativity scene, which is perfect for connecting the two vignettes.
For the place settings, I added the red and white poppers which seemed appropriate for the tablescape.
The plaid shirt and fur hat with flaps are party favors for guests to take home and hang on their tree if desired.
Merry Christmas and I hope you have as much fun watching old movies as we do at our house.

I just LOVE this Kari! Your table is fabulous – you’re so creative! I’ve never seen either of the movies, but now I want to! I totally know what you mean about being able to quote the whole movie, though. When my boys were small, we watched Clue all.the.time! Maybe 10 years later when they were home once, we put it on again, and realized that almost everything we say to each other is a quote from that movie! 🤣 I hope you had a wonderful holiday – it’s great to catch up with you again!
These are both great movies and table, Kari! I remember you mentioning your line after the hurricane. Humor is definitely the best way to deal with things like that!
Thanks Rita….yes, we use humor a lot in our family. My grandson can quote almost every joke or funny line from Jeff Foxworthy’s “You might be a redneck if…..” Merry Christmas to you and yours!
Kari, I haven’t either of these movies, but Ron and I like funny movies, so we’ll watch them this year. Your tablescape is fantastic. Merry Christmas to you and The Captain.
I think you and Ron will like them…they can be corny but funny and they get more humorous as the years go by. Hugs my friend.

Christmas Vacation is my whole family’s favorite movie, we watch it on Christmas Eve every year! We often call my son Clark, like~ “That tree is a beaut Clark!” All your CV decorations are adorable and what fun to use them for a tablescape! Too funny about the different light settings! I have watched Christmas Story too, it’s a classic but not my favorite. My TV stays tuned to the Hallmark channel, I love to watch their Christmas movies 🙂 So fun Kari, I love it all!!

Jenna I really like the old movies and they can be black and white…I don’t care. We are always quoting lines from these movies. I often ask my oldest son to look at an imaginary mole on my face and tell me if it is getting bigger, etc. It is just so funny. Or we will say loudly…the Blessing! the Blessing!, not the Pledge of Allegiance. Thanks for stopping by. Hugs!

What a wonderful collection of memories!! I will say Christmas Vacation is our favorite Christmas movie, we just watched it a few days ago. I love your village, especially Eddie and his RV. There are so many great lines from the movie and I can just picture you and the Captain saying your favorites. Wishing you both a wonderful and blessed Christmas!!
Hi Pam…I hope you and Dan are well…..you know what I mean. We live with doctors and doctor’s reports don’t we? Yes, I can watch those movies over and over and laugh yet again. I love the innocent movies without all that foul talk that seems to be the norm in modern movies. Have a wonderful Holiday my friend…we know the reason for the season and are so very thankful.
I have seen all of the ones above. We were able to see White Christmas the musical on Broadway in 2008…it was fabulous!

Please don’t think we are sticks in the mud, but we haven’t seen either of these movies ever 😂🤣 I have heard so much about them from my brother that I never felt the need to watch them. Thanks Pam…I hope you and Butch are able to watch these movies…they are iconic and we never tire of them. Of course there are more Christmas movies such as White Christmas, The Bishops Wife, It’s a Wonderful Life, Miracle on 34th Street, A Christmas Carol, Home Alone, The Shop Around the Corner, Meet me in St. Louis, You’ve Got Mail….of course all the old versions. LOL Plenty more but these are favorites…and usually on TV all month long. (There is certainly not much worth watching on TV these days) Blessings my sweet friend

Thank you so much for reading Julie…I try to tell a story or give a history with all my tablescapes. Storage is always an issue. I do have a dish pantry, stemware cabinet, flatware cabinet and linen cabinet….plus the Captain built shelves in the garage for overage. 🙁 /:) Yes, we must always remember to keep Christ in Christmas! LOVE! LOVE! LOVE! Want it ALL! Great FUN table! Both movies will be watched by our family also. My fav part in Christmas Vaca is the cat chewing the light cord,under the chair. Or the Aunt’s jello mold with cat food IN IT! We drove home from our daughter last nite and enjoyed (stopped and took a pic!!!) of a neighbor’s picture window with a full size leg lamp and Ralphie in his bunny p.j’s. Merry Christmas!

I loved that part of the movie too…and I liked when Clark and Eddie were in Wal-Mart, and Clark is offering to buy Eddie’s kids some presents, so they will have Christmas because Eddie has no money…Eddie thanks Clark and then says…I want you to buy something nice from me, for yourself Clark! Kari, although my favorites are White Christmas and The Santa Claus, for my guys it’s a tradition for the 4 of us to watch Christmas Vacation together prior and A Christmas Story on the holiday itself. They quote all the lines together. Two years ago my eldest son gave my husband sweaters with “why is the floor wet Todd” and “I don’t know Margot.” If I didn’t have so many buildings and accessories from the North Pole, I’d be tempted ones like yours for the guys.
how funny Debbee! I am so glad to see other families are as goofy as we are. I can’t tell you how many times we have all watched these movies and I can’t begin to tell you how many “lines” from these movies we have quoted at one time or another and laugh our fool heads off each and every time. (of course we quote lines from everyday movies of years gone by too) African Queen, Stake-Out, Jaws, Pretty Woman, Hoosiers, Crocodile Dundee, The Quiet Man just to name a few. We do have a lot in common my friend.
