McFarland, USA…Movie Review.
The Captain and I went to a wonderful movie over the week-end….McFarland, USA!
It is the story of a coach who needs to make this last coaching job work as he is out of options….so he moves his wife and two daughters to the little town of McFarland, California which to him and his family seems like the worst place to live and work.
The community is a poor community and most of the inhabitants work in the cabbage fields.
Many of the children not only work in the fields before school, but after school …and running is the the way they are able to go to and from the school and fields.
As the new coach, played by Kevin Costner observes….their talent does not necessarily guarantee good football players, which is what he was hired to do…be the assistant football coach.
Watching the team run laps, the Coach notices just how fast they run….and a track team becomes his vision.
More importantly, the teenage runners have faith, strong family ties and incredible work ethics, which also allows them to commit to their fellow team mates as they morph into championship runners.
I love movies that are based on true stories and have happily-ever-after endings…and being a Disney movie is a bonus.
This one did not disappoint.
I laughed and cried and at the end of the movie…..I felt a personal pride in those kids and what they accomplished.
The end credits are amazing as we get to see the original characters in present day and where their lives are now.
Have you my dear readers seen “McFarland, USA”?
Let me know your thoughts.
