I have always believed a sense of humor is very important in life.
And I have to confess that all my children have this rare trait.
We all seem to be able to find humor in most everything.
We make each other laugh as we laugh at ourselves.
Twin number 1 is into photography….and he is pretty good at it even though he has not had extensive professional training.
(This is the twin that lives in Leavenworth, Kansas….no, he doesn’t wear orange nor does he have bars at his windows!) 😉
Below are a few photos he shot….(I really like his black and white photos).
Photos are courtesy of @Trog1222 on Instagram with a credit/courtesy of Karma Cakes in Leavenworth, Kansas.
The other day, Twin number 1 and I were texting back and forth and I commented on his photography talent. I asked for a few tips that would allow me to take better photos for my Blog.
He said …“Try getting down to a lower vantage point on the food or whatever you are taking photos of”….”The angle of looking down is what we see everyday, and you want to do something a bit different.”
He then referred me to a few of his photos of his children where he actually had the camera sitting on the ground and he said he was laying on the ground as he took shot after shot.
Well, I thought about it for a minute and trying to add a little humor into the conversation…..I texted back to him the following:
“What happens if I get down on the ground and can’t get back up?”
And he responded almost immediately with this comment.
“Then just maneuver around on the ground and take pictures of everything you see at all angles until Life Alert gets there. You are bound to get some good shots of something!”
I have to admit I laughed out loud at that one….and I certainly don’t want to diminish the good work that Life Alert does in saving lives but I don’t have Life Alert….and he knows that!
And it was funny! At least to me at the time and you know I am weird that way! 😉
As I said, all my children love a sense of humor and since today is “Oldest Son’s” birthday…I carried on a tradition that I have had since the movie “City Slickers” was released June 7, 1991…..interesting that the month of the release of the movie, sort of coincides with my oldest son’s birthday….June 11th.
The movie opens with the phone ringing at 5:16 a.m. Billy Crystal and his wife are deep in sleep. Billy pushes the speaker button and his mother’s voice is saying….(in a half crying/half laughing voice)
“It’s September 8th, 1952. 39 years ago today we were driving back from your Aunt Marsha’s. My water breaks!
Your father jumps the divider of the Sawmill River Parkway and races me to Doctors’ Hospital and….at 5:16, out you came!!!
Ohhhhh…Happy Birthday, Birthday Boy! I can’t believe my baby’s 39 years old…..Bye Angel Birthday Boy!”
Apparently, Billy’s mother repeats this little ritual every year, because Billy is mouthing the same words as his mother speaks them.
I thought it was so funny that I have made that same phone call to my “Oldest Son”…changing the dates, etc….every year on his birthday since 1991!
Yep! I am definitely weird!
But we do laugh about it and many more things to numerous to mention.
Oh, and I bet you are wondering how the Florida large turtle figures in to this post on a sense of humor.
No way really….I just like to look at large turtles and smile that they are in no hurry to get where they are going!
Now, they have to have a sense of humor don’t they?
Have you laughed today, my dear readers?

can’t believe it… I watched City Slickers last night! and I didn’t see this blog until today…. so it was good Karma..
you have to laugh… it is so good for the soul.. and laughing is infectious..
My sister has a habit of “Corpsing” (which is British theatrical slang for unintentionally breaking character by laughing) basically… once you start laughing, even when it is totally inappropriate.. you just can’t stop and then everyone is infected with the laughter… Just wish you could burn calories by laughing and then we would be slim jims.
Hugs from across the pong (oops he he) pond..

“Corpsing”…how interesting a term. I luv it! It just so happens that when my grandfather died some 30 years ago….my two sisters and I got the giggles at the “family viewing”…and we couldn’t stop. Very inappropriate, but It had nothing to do with grandpa…I am sure it was the tension, etc…Sooo in an effort to hide our laughter, we huddled together on a bench outside the building, hugging and “consoling” one another….while family members would come over, before entering the building and tried to “console” us. Mother was horrified and didn’t think we fooled anyone with our shaking bodies and what appeared to be sobs…but grandpa would have thought it funny.

Thanks Sandy for stopping by…I wish we could sit and have a cup of tea together and just chat. I am sure we could find ways to laugh at ourselves!
