Shelling On Sanibel!

Shelling On Sanibel!

Day Two of my beautiful grand daughter and her fiance’s visit to our home in Florida!

I just have to share with you, my dear readers our travel-log! 😉

What a joy she is to me and what fun to watch her reactions to a few unexpected “surprises”!

2015-09-04_09.39.57[1]We started with breakfast on the water at the Boathouse! Yes, they are trying to smile even though we had a very early start to the day! 😉

2015-09-04_13.51.56[1]I never tire of the sea gulls amidst all the shells on this island.  Sanibel Island is rated in the Travel Destinations as having the best shelling beaches!

2015-09-04_13.52.04[1]Picking up shells….oh, and a alligator dried head….no, not on the beach…more on that later! 🙂

2015-09-04_14.04.46[1]Sanibel has an old light house as well as this oil house….more to come on that too!

2015-09-04_15.27.33[1]Back on the Cape….Lunch was at Rumrunners Restaurant…again on the water and this was my grand daughter’s first look and taste of raw oysters!

2015-09-04_15.29.37[1]Yep! raw oysters sliding down the throat straight from the shell….her fiance was kind enough to “loosen” the oyster from the shell for her. 😉

2015-09-04_15.29.38[1]As you can tell….she did not like them!  She thought they were the worst thing she had tasted!

2015-09-04_15.29.53[1]Her fiance loved them….or is that his reaction to her dislike? We all kind-of had a laugh at her expense….but after all, what are grandparents for? 🙂

2015-09-04_18.39.50[1]But she was all smiles again when we set off for a sunset boat ride.

2015-09-04_19.28.13[1]Can’t have a sunset ride without sipping on wine….in a paper cup of course! 🙂

2015-09-04_19.00.43[1]Rookery Island was so cool with all the large birds nesting for the evening….including the frigate birds….yes, the bird with the huge red throat is…you guessed it…the male!  I think I like that humans are the opposite in beauty!  Did I say that out loud? My weird sense of humor.

2015-09-04_19.10.00[1]Osprey in a tree!

2015-09-04_19.30.27[1]Beautiful sunset right in the gulf of of Mexico.

2015-09-04_19.31.11[1]

Perfect ending for a perfect day!

More to come!

  1. You are a perfect host Kari.

I’m sure they had a memorable time. They’ll be able to tell the story of the oyster tasting for many years to come…

    Hugs xx
