My dear readers…I hope you are feeling a bit refreshed after such a nice long Holiday week-end. I know I am.
I just can’t help feeling blessed as I look around me. I find myself smiling as I focus on beautiful thoughts.
The world these days, is full of so many negatives and unfortunately so many of them affect our very being without our even being aware. Of course, we can not stick our heads in the sand and ignore those hurting…however, my Bible Study….particularly Philippians 4:8…which says:
“Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.”….
….this verse has really spoken to my heart these days.
And that seems to spill over to those round about me.
Have you ever noticed that when you hear or read about some of the horrifying actions of some very bad people….that it is difficult to remove certain images from your mind. I believe that is why the above Bible scripture is so profound.
So while I am smiling and thinking good thoughts….several of you have asked me to have a room reveal!
Yes, you have been hearing me talk about painting for a few weeks, but I am not finished with the decorating. I have been shopping my home for items to use in my Summer Decor. Can you believe this is the beginning of Summer already?
Anyway, the Captain and I have repainted our great room which consists of kitchen, entry, kitchen nook, dining room and living room in our home…. and I have been moving furniture and artwork from this room to that room and also digging through boxes in the attic for treasures.
I have to confess that when I say the Captain and I….I should probably say the Captain….as he does most of the painting and the attic shopping.
I was doing the woodwork until I injured my knee (see that post from last week ….This Has Been A Public Service Announcement…..) …then I more or less supervised and worked on packing and unpacking boxes from the attic
The items in the boxes are really not actual treasures, but old items that become new again for two reasons. One, they have not been used in several years and two, I have been grabbing my handy-dandy paint brush and revitalizing them.
For instance, I took two lamps that had dark lamp stands and swished on a bit of white chalk paint. I love chalk paint because the only prep is to wipe the piece down with Simple Green and slap on the paint. Now how easy is that? I use Annie Sloan Chalk Paint but there are other paints on the market.
This fuzzy pic below is one of many before pics of the fireplace and mantle. I say many because I am always changing the decor on the mantle for the Seasons. This one is one of the Christmases past. The reason I included it in the pics is so you could get an idea of the dark colors in the room. The Plantation shutters included.
As you can see, the walls were a Venetian plaster and the wood stained just about as dark as it could get. It was called dark mahogany. This was shortly after we moved in 6 years ago….what was I thinking with all those components on that shelf? tsk tsk! Thank goodness, I removed most of them several years ago.
This is another Christmas pic.
Now, the walls are lighter (SW Agreeable Gray) and the woodwork is SW Eider White. Sooo much brighter as you can see.
It was difficult to get the same angle for this “after” pic… because I still have stuff moved to the middle of the floor for the painting….ok, I am a bit slow in getting things re-arranged. 🙂
The clock came from the kitchen nook….and I thought it should go above the fireplace….I have always liked that it is rather large.
Now, my question to you my dear readers is this:
Should I paint the beige tiles around the fireplace or leave them as is? There are products out there that allow for painting tiles.
Thoughts?
I am still arranging and re-arranging the furniture and setting out little vignettes, but I wanted to give you a sneak peak at what I have been up to these past few weeks. I promise I will show more pics as I progress further.
Until then….Have a great week ….and think happy thoughts!
Gosh, you have so much more imagination (and energy and willing labor) than I do! The make over is like port beer to champagne.
Thanks Donna…I really appreciate your stopping by…I am assuming you did not have trouble commenting as a few have said the spybot thingy keeps popping up.
I really like the lighter brighter color and it is certainly different from all the dark wood.
