Good Morning my dear readers!!!
I’ve been on a decorating refresh of several of the rooms here at Villa de la Luna…or in other words, our home.
As you know I name everything and our home is no exception. In fact, one of the first things the Captain and I did when we bought the home almost 7 years ago was to pick out an appropriate name. We knew it had to have something to do with the Moon because the moon has a special meaning to us, so we purchased a large plaque that was placed near the front entry doors shortly after moving in!
It is so interesting to hear our guests trying to figure out the words in English as they stand outside our door. We have a camera and audio in the entry because it is so far from the main part of the house. I have to cross the front courtyard to get to the front door. But I digress, …..the meaning of “Villa de la Luna”??…. “large country house or private Holiday home of the Moon”.
In the pic above, the first thing one notices in our entry is the sun and the stars,…but a more subtle moon is on the left side! Do you see it?
And while we are at the front entry…the Captain hung my staghorn fern in one of our Shady Lady Trees in the front yard. It had outgrown the iron stand it had been on for the last few years and I followed the trend of SW Florida by putting the staghorn in a large tree! I like it.
What do you think?
Also, I am going to ask your indulgence with this post today.
I have been having issues with trying to make some changes and I seem to have lost my followers list and followers notifications among other things. I have posted 9 posts since June 8th and I have lost them all.
I am in the slow process of trying to bring them all back, but as with most things….it is proving to be a challenge. I am so sorry for the inconvenience, but if you are looking at this post…will you please go to the bottom right corner and hit “follow” and re-add your email address for me? Thank you so much.
I am trying to update many things about this Blog….which apparently, is more complicated than I could ever imagine. sigh! So please bear with me as a few changes are being made.
I am also updating my home to keep it current and polished by adding a few items and removing a few others. Even the littlest things make a big difference in a room. For example, touching up a ding or smudge on my walls with paint. Don’t you wonder how that “ding” happened or why that smudge is there? Daily living happens no matter how careful one is. I always keep a can of wall color and baseboard color paint handy for just those needs.
I like to change out my fireplace mantel and throw pillows and vignettes on the coffee table to spruce up my living room. Using neutral colors for the basics makes this a breeze to do. I also like to “shop” my home and bring items from one room to another to add interest.
For example: We have added a new hutch in our dining nook, which is still a work in progress as the Captain is working on the crown molding. We used to have a round glass dining table and a sidebar in this small area off the kitchen.
I switched out the round glass table with a white wooden rectangle table I had. You may have seen this table in the last few tablescapes I have done, but the table is partially hidden by the centerpieces and dinnerware. More to come on that later.
The white table and chairs as well as the white hutch gives a new look to the space and allows me even more area to decorate with seasonal decor. I placed a few of my coastal things in the hutch….not sure it will stay with that arrangement…as I said, a work in progress.
I moved the darker sidebar cabinet to the other side of the entry doors of the lanai and courtyard, which allowed me plenty of room for this narrow hutch. We bought the hutch in pieces from IKEA and “hacked” the bookshelves and doors ideas. I also removed the wooden shelves and replaced them with cabinet lighting and glass shelves.
This hutch provides more than just another venue for decor. As you can see from the above pictures….the closed in part of the hutch is storage for linen napkins.
I will post more pictures as the work progresses but I just wanted to give you a little update on what is happening at Villa de la Luna…..in and around our home!
Have a great and wonderful week.
Blessings always
Please comment, I'd love to hear from you.
