My dear readers,
You know I am not a fashion maven by any stretch of the imagination, but I just had to show you the serious bling I had going on Sunday at church!
Remember we live in Florida and church dress is casual. Our Pastor wears a dress shirt and tie, but no jacket. It is very laid back and tropical.
But I digress…..I bought this pair of capri pants and 3/4 length sleeve top on line several months back.
I am sure it was on one of my “blah” days and I saw all this bling and because I do like the color yellow, I made an impulse buy and I bought the set.
I don’t know if it shows well in the pictures, but the capri pants have a 2 inch wide “hem” of sequins. The top has sequins on the blue bicycle and on the sporadic flowers on the front.
Also, for those who know me, you know I am not afraid of color.
I mean I have bright red hair after all….. and have been known to wear the color red and the color pink without a blink of the eye.
However, the bright yellow set hung in my closet for months.
And then, this past Sunday……I snatched the yellow set out of my closet, as well as a pair of wedge heeled leather and turquoise shoes I have had for ages, and a pair of beige boat shoes.
I had choices!
Someone had to be sensible here.
As if that wasn’t enough, I decided I should wear yellow ear rings.
After all, I am from that matchy-matchy era of shoes, jewelry, purse and the kitchen sink matching my color choice of clothing.
That is just what we did way back then.
Come on, I know you remember those days. If you didn’t live it, you certainly remember pictures of Jackie Kennedy in her matching suits and hats, etc.
As you can see from the picture above, I had 4 choices for yellow ear rings.
I will let you guess the choice I made in earrings and shoes.
Well, I took one look in the mirror and said out loud…“I look like a Chiquita Banana”!
The Captain stepped into the master bath at my pronouncement and gave me a big smile.
I am not sure if it was a smile of amusement at my Chiquita Banana comment…..
……..or whether he liked me in the outfit.
At this point, the clock was ticking, so I didn’t much care to go through my closet choosing another outfit…so his smile was taken as approval.
I am a definite optimist!
Still…there was a small bit of doubt in my mind that this was the perfect outfit to wear to church, so as I walked by my closet I grabbed a dotted Swiss sheer jacket to sort of cover up all the bling.
In bright yellow!!!
uh huh! I know, right?
What was I thinking?
As I walked out the door, I passed by my hat rack.
I love hats!
On the rack are several straw hats, including one that matched my straw handbag with the bright yellow puff balls on the leather handle….I hesitated for just a couple seconds, shook my head and said “Noooooooo” to myself and headed for the car.
Whew!
I am sure you are wondering if I got any comments at church.
Oh yes, I did!
And because I was in church, they were very nice comments such as:
“I love the color yellow”
“Your hair looks great with yellow”
“My Mother always liked yellow….she’s passed away now”
“What a beautiful bright yellow.”
“You certainly brought all the sunshine yellow in this morning”
“Oh, the blue bicycle is very pretty?
So there you have it my friends, assuming you still are my friends after mellow yellow Sunday.
In retrospect, I do believe the next time I wear the top, I will pair it with a pair of white jeans or capri pants.
There is just so much bling one can put forth!
There is a popular jingle from several years ago….Remember?? ….and it is going on in my head right now.
“I’m Chiquita banana and I’ve come to say
Bananas have to ripen in a certain way
When they are fleck’d with brown and have a golden hue
Bananas taste the best and are best for you
You can put them in a salad – You can put them in a pie-aye
Any way you want to eat them – It’s impossible to beat them
But, bananas like the climate of the very, very tropical equator
So you should never put bananas in the refrigerator.”
Please comment, I'd love to hear from you.
