Picture this.
The Captain and I, all cozy with a furry throw.
All the lights are off with only the faint blue glow from the television screen and the twinkling lights of the Christmas tree.
A favorite beverage.
A Christmas cookie…or two.
And Jimmy Stewart saying to Donna Reed….“What is it you want, Mary? What do you want? You want the moon? Just say the word and I’ll throw a lasso around it and pull it down. Hey. That’s a pretty good idea. I’ll give you the moon, Mary.”
Or how about the part where George Bailey is running through the snowy streets of Bedford Falls yelling “Merry Christmas you old Building & Loan”!!!
I LOVE to watch Christmas movies during the month of December, old and new.
Yep!
I love to watch the same ones over and over again and even though I know what is going to happen, I still shed a tear or laugh out loud.
The Captain and I settle into our favorite chairs in the Master bedroom, grab a cup of hot cocoa or soda, perhaps a glass of wine or just plain water…and maybe a snack or two and watch our favorites.
Most of the time, there is a favorite Christmas movie on one of the movie channels…but in case there isn’t one currently showing, we dive into our stack of DVDs and watch what we prefer.
Each evening, I text “Only Daughter” to see if she has found a Christmas movie on one of her many channels…
…..just in case I miss one.
I love them all…cartoons too!
Charley Brown Christmas is one of my favorites, Rudolph and Frosty too. Sigh!
Below are a few of our favorites and perhaps they are yours too!
White Christmas (The song by Irving Berlin is reason enough to watch this Holiday Classic)
Holiday Inn (Fred Astaire and Bing Crosby open a Country Inn only on Holidays)
The Bishop’s Wife (original version with Loretta Young and David Niven ),
Christmas Vacation (The Griswold family Christmas turned into a circus)
It’s a Wonderful Life (Look Daddy, Teacher says… Every time a bell rings, an Angel gets His wings)
The Santa Clause (A mortal who becomes Santa after an accident befalls the real Santa)
How the Grinch Stole Christmas (Oh, he was a mean one, Mr. Grinch)
A Christmas Story (who can forget Ralphie, the leg lamp and the Red Ryder BB gun! )
Miracle on 34th Street (The Macy Parade and a little girl who finally “believed”)
A Christmas Carol (Tiny Tim and Mr. Scrooge, Merry Christmas Every One!)
The Polar Express ( Tom Hanks on the magical train and a doubting little boy)
If I had to choose, I suppose I would choose “White Christmas” as being my favorite.
I would be remiss if I didn’t tell you the Captain’s favorite Christmas movie….“It’s A Wonderful Life” has always been his favorite.
There are many more great Christmas movies. By the way….do you have a favorite Christmas Movie? Please Share!! 🙂
If you will excuse me …it is time to put “It’s A Wonderful Life” into the DVD player, the Captain just popped some popcorn and I made hot chocolate!
Have a great and blessed evening.
