Hello my dear friends!
Perhaps some of you may not know, but when we bought our home here in Florida (about 12-13 years ago now), we did what most goofy (or romantic) people do, we named it ‘Villa de la Luna‘ or home of the Moon.
You can see the explanation in this post here.
And a fuller explanation Here.
Hence the name reference.
I have received many emails asking for an update on how I am doing…so forgive me if this is ‘old news’ to some of you.
As many of you know, I was seriously ill with Pancreatic Cancer for almost two years and I am still recovering but I am doing so well.
In fact, I am doing great!
God has brought me through this horrible illness and He continues to bless me every day.
Psalm 139: 23,24
Search me, God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. See if there is any offensive way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.
There are still days when I feel weak and but there are more and more days when I feel strong. 🙂
You see, my 12 hour Whipple surgery consisted of removing part of my stomach, intestines, esophagus, pancreas and all of my gall bladder (and who knows what else SHE took out)! LOL
I still have bouts with suddenly rushing to the rest room (and hoping I make it)….but it sure beats the alternative.
This is due to the fact that I do not produce the enzymes to properly digest my food.
Food goes straight through me and therefore the nutrients don’t stop and give nourishment to vital organs.
The plus of this is that I am not diabetic so do not have to take insulin…which is the usual result of losing the pancreas!
Praise God!
Another plus is I don’t have to watch my diet, ‘per say’…as the doctors are always encouraging me to eat! eat! eat!…anything and everything…. provided it does not irritate my digestive processes.
I do take pills…..lots and lots of Creon before I can “eat” anything! (and those pills are huge and sometimes difficult to swallow)
Depending on what I eat determines how many pills I take.
I never thought I would hear my doctor say….”you need to gain weight! Eat more of anything you like!!!!!”. LOL
I have asked my doctor why my body is taking so long to completely recuperate and she said it could take years to recover from this “trauma”.
This is a very slow process, but I am not complaining, I am thankful for every day.
Since the Captain and my caregivers were so busy taking care of me…there have been little things neglected around the house.
And now that I am feeling better, I am seeing so much to be done and I (mostly) have the energy to plan and tend to what I can.
Or at least we can call and hire it done. LOL
One of my/our projects is to remodel/update our Lanai as I love to spend time out there.
I have my quiet devotional time and we eat all our meals out there as well as I just love to sit and enjoy nature.
I was flat on my back for so so long that I missed my time outside on the Lanai.
I don’t care what the temp is, I am just so thankful to be able to be outside.
Our pool decking on the lanai needs updated and our outdoor kitchen is in need of revamping too.
We need to paint, tear out and start over with this kitchen.
I will post pics as we get it started, but with contract help being so scarce these days due to Covid etc., it might be a while before it can be finished.
Our Lanai area colors are now turquoise, navy blue and cream. ( I ordered new pillows a few months back)
Anyway, the Captain found the cutest retro fridge in the color Aqua!
Please excuse the awful photos of a very shabby outdoor kitchen…I told you it needs updating! LOL
Our white under counter fridge was beginning to show rust etc. from the Florida elements and was looking rather shabby, what am I saying???? it looks terrible! LOL
Just keeping it real folks.
You can see the rust on the corner of the old white fridge.
We have had summer guests and thank goodness they have been family or I would have been very embarrassed to have them retrieve bottles of water, etc. out of the dusty, dingy, rusty fridge. LOL
So keeping with the aqua/turquoise theme…
I went on line and found an aqua keurig coffee maker and an aqua microwave.
They don’t look look they “match” in these photos but they are pretty close.
Our white??? (once white now dingy off cream/beige microwave also finally bit the dust)
So as we progress with our remodel/update, I will share photos.
I am loving life and loving all of you sweet friends!
Meanwhile, thank you for all your prayers and encouragement and for caring about and for us and for being our friends.
Blessings Always
and let’s not forget this day in history….9-11…..God bless America

Kari, great update. I love your aqua appliances. So very cheerful!
Don’t apologize for rusting appliances outside in the south. My garage refrigerator is terrible but with the high humidity rust is going to happen.
I have been taking a blog break and have been on several trips. I hope to get back in the blogging mode soon.
I am so glad you are planning projects. You are inspiring and I am glad you are doing so well.
You are a great example.

I love getting your updates, Kari, as I truly am invested in praying for you. My neighbor who is walking this same journey with you has had to see specialists for her digestive issues, and another recent trip back to Pittsburgh. Like you, her husband is her strongest advocate. Wishing you the strength it will take to get through any and all projects on your list so you can reap the benefits of your time of respite!

So glad to hear you’re still doing so well, Kari. Beautiful appliances! The Chiefs play tomorrow; will you be watching?
Love,
Sandy

Oh yes….I am definitely “fan loyal” and the Chiefs, Jayhawks and Royals always get my attention. I should not admit it but I was cheering for the Cowboys when they played the Tampa Bay Bucs Thursday!!! I won’t say it had anything to do with the Super Bowl last year and Tom Brady playing and winning in his home stadium. The Chiefs should have won that game…just saying. LOL
I think those LITTLE appliances are so cute…..and the fridge fits UNDER the outdoor counter perfectly. A good place to watch the game and snack. LOL
Have a great and blessed day.
