“The falling leaves drift by my window….The Autumn leaves of red and gold!”
Red and gold leaves are being referred to in the above Autumn Leaves song, sung by Nat King Cole for those of you who remember him….and any time I think of falling leaves, that song comes into my mind.
If you would like a little music from years gone by (my kind of music)…just click on the little You Tube arrow and you will hear Nat King Cole singing Autumn Leaves.
My dear readers, you know how sentimental and romantic I am and only I…living in the heat and humidity of Florida could sit by my window and imagine the falling leaves drifting by.
I know….
Right?
OK, we really don’t have the falling leaves of red and gold, but we do have the croton plant like the one below in my courtyard.
And they do shed a red or gold leaf or two during the summer…when they are a bit stressed… So could we say they are falling leaves?
Look! Proof! See, there is a leaf floating in my waterfall pond in my courtyard!
So as I worked on a Fall Tablescape this past week-end for a Blog Hop…
……I also worked on a centerpiece or vignette for my other dining room table.
Yep! The one that looks into the courtyard and sees the falling leaves of red and gold.
Humor me, Please!
For the centerpiece, I placed gold napkins on the diagonal down the center of the table. You don’t always have to use a table runner or tablecloth. Use what you have in your home …
….Or use nothing at all, your choice.
I placed three tall stemmed gold-ribbed vases in the center of my table and if that wasn’t enough, I added two 13 inch chocolate cylinders in between the vases.
Yep! I had the romantic vibes going strong for sure with the strains of Nat King Cole streaming in the background as I danced around the table in my bare feet with freshly manicure toes.
Not sure what my polished toes have in common with putting together a Fall vignette, other than the toe polish is a bronzy color.
As a matter of fact, now that I think about it. My fingernail polish is a royal blue polish (for the Kansas City Royals of course)… so only my toes blend with the Autumnal leaves. 🙁
But I digress…back to the music and autumn leaves.
Unfortunately, my knight in shining armor is flying the friendly skies, Captain Oh my Captain!….which fits in with the beautiful song’s lyrics, and a little bit of melancholy! (seven days on and seven days off)
Sooooo I placed little twinkle lights in each vase AND in the chocolate cylinders!
The glow that is given off gives me a warm feeling when I come in the door; they welcome me home. The lights are on timers so I never have to enter a dark house.
I sort of feel pampered.
My friends, there is nothing wrong with pampering yourself once in a while with candle-light and I believe your family appreciates the special effort you take to add a little bit of the season to your home’s decor.
Decorating a seasonal vignette does not have to be expensive. The little pumpkins sitting in and around the magnolia garlands are from the dollar store….and if you are blessed with a garden, you can make your own garland of whatever you prefer. Just lay a few branches on a tablecloth or napkins as I did and place a few candles around them….battery operated candles if you want them to welcome you home.
And play your favorite music or the favorite music of your loved ones.
Make it special.
“For I know the plans I have for you,’ declares the Lord, ‘plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you a hope and a future.’ ” — Jeremiah 29:11.
Have a great day and keep safe and keep smiling!

Dear Kari, I love your Nat King Cole music and your fall table setting. Yes, I like the older music. Ron has been listening to a lot of Englebert Humperdink (not sure if I spelled his name right) music lately. The older artists had great voices. Thank you for another lovely setting blog, Kari.
I know you can’t wait for The Captain to get back home. Maybe, he’ll bring you something special. Fingers crossed!

Thanks Sandy, I am a softy for the older music. Maybe it is because I can understand the words. LOL! Tell Ron ‘Hi’ from the Captain and Me…Stay safe and healthy.
Hugs Always

I love old music. I grew up in a house of music love, and my oldest sibling is 14 yrs older, so our ages of music span many decades and genres (not even counting my parents’ love of music). One sister (9 yrs older) listened to a lot of Ray Conniff and I remember their version of this. Very soothing, and yes, melancholy. It evokes beautiful imagery of days gone by.
Hoping your Captain stays safe and well with flying the skies again. Your table is lovely. Little lights everywhere as the says grow shorter….makes for a cozy and welcoming home.

Thanks Rita for stopping by. I remember listening to a 78 rpm record of George Gershwin’s ‘Rhapsody in Blue’ that my parents like to listen to….and we too, had music all the time in our home.
It is also amazing how we can hear a song many years later and can associate it with a specific time in our lives.
Music is great.
I knew you and I were kindred spirts….
Take care my friend and do’t try to do everything at once as you prepare for your new journey. Wait! What am I saying? You are probably the most organized person I know.
Hugs and Blessings.

Thank you Darlene…do you like the older music such as the Nat King Cole Autumn Leaves or is it just me?
