April, Ahhhhh Miss April, Let Me Count The Ways!
I can’t help but think of the song April Showers whenever I think of the month of April.
Though April showers may come your way,
They bring the flowers that bloom in May.
So if it’s raining, have no regrets,
Because it isn’t raining rain, you know, (It’s raining violets,)
And where you see clouds upon the hills,
You soon will see crowds of daffodils,
So keep on looking for a blue bird, And list’ning for his song,
Whenever April showers come along.
This is the fourth in my series of the months of the year. If you missed them, the links are below.
Miss January here,
Miss February here
Mr. March here,
Of course April is MISS April…first we think of April “showers”, not April downpours or thunderstorms although those types of storms are always possible…the memory thinks of soft showers of rain to awaken all nature with a fresh drink of water.
Poets write about April….a favorite Shakespeare poem is this one:
“Oh how the Spring of love resembleth the uncertain glory of an April day! Which now shows all the beauty of the sun, And by and bye a cloud takes all away.”
Add to her admirers, E.B. Browning, Alfred Hayes, E.M. Holden, and J. Keble to name but a few who have written of her beauty and charm.
Miss April can be “fun” to be around and she can be a bit of a jokester starting on the very first day of her month, A date known as April Fools day.
And then she can be very serious, welcoming in Good Friday and Easter which by the way are not always in April. You see Easter Day is the first Sunday after the full moon that occurs next after the vernal equinox, so there are years when Easter is in late March. Miss April likes to keep one guessing, that is part of her charm.
Speaking of charm….what could be more charming than Miss April’s birth flower?
The Sweet Pea!!!
……signifying blissful pleasure
Yes, that is our Miss April…but there is more regarding this pretty little flower.
……. sweet peas are also used to say goodbye…hmmmmm.
Miss April is indeed a very versatile, lovely lady.
And her gemstone???? It is the diamond….
…..of course it is!!!!!
And this particular diamond is a 3.03 loose Caret diamond and in case you are wondering if it is for sale…. the price tag is $90,441.00… but you get free shipping! LOL
I can just see her now, fluttering her long eyelashes as she accepts a beautiful diamond ring …or necklace or ear rings. I’ve been known to flutter at the sight of a diamond, myself. 🙂
As we examine further, we find that Miss April’s name is derived from the latin word aperit, which means to open. It is considered that April is the month of the growing season and when trees and flowers begin to “open”.
It is also believed that the month’s is named after the Greek goddess, Aphrodite (Aphros).
According to Greek Mythology….Aphrodite was known as the Greek Goddess of Beauty, Love and Eternal Youth.
As long as we are discussing myths ….don’t forget what Zeus told the beautiful Aphrodite.….
hmmmmmm……that statement could open a whole can of worms in today’s world.
So there you have it….our Miss April with all her awe and wonderment. It is not surprising that she is one of my favorite months.
How about you? Do you have a favorite month of the year?
Blessings to all in this Easter Season….

Delightful post, Kari, I learned several things. I did not know sweet peas are the April flower.
Yes, the weather has been stressful the past two weeks off and on but the spring flowers are so beautiful. I’m not sure what month is my favorite. My daughter was born in April and my son got married in April.
I think it would be between April and May for me.
I love all the prophesy scriptures. I love all scripture and on this most Holy Week I wish you and your family a most wonderful Easter. I rejoice that He is Risen!

Love your April post! I do believe it is hard to choose among March, April and May for a favorite. I so anticipate March for the beginning of Spring ( and March madness, let’s face it!), but April is warmer, though fickle too. May might be it. So consistently wonderful weather (at least in our region).
Kari says
March Madness is right up my alley too…and then I move into baseball season…which today is opening day.
I like the Spring flowers…and unfortunately, we can’t grow many of my favorites here in Florida, like lilacs, forsythia, tulips, crocus, daffodils, peonys, etc. 🙁
Have a wonderful Easter, my friend, and thanks for stopping by.

What a delightful post Kari! I loved all the quotes, the descriptions, the witty asides…entirely delightful! April is a fickle tricky month, always full of surprises and beautiful blooms! Things are blooming right before our eyes in Birmingham right now, it is such a pleasure to just drive around and take it all in! Your writing is quite a gift, thank you for the smiles today!

Thanks Jenna…I do like to talk and write to talk. 🙂 This is a lovely time of year…I hope your weather is better this week, and you and your family have a joyous Easter. The Captain and I will be a twosome this year for Easter dinner, but we have all kinds of family planning trips to Florida and we are going up there too. So a busy summer is in store for us.

Hello my friend….I am slowly getting back into things…Sometimes I get a little impatient when my stamina slows down, but I remind myself of what my doctors keep telling me…and that is my body went through a major shock and it will take time. Happy Easter to you and John and I hope this Covid thing fades away very soon.
Hugs and Blessings to your family.

Kari, I also love Miss April, but my favorite month is my birth month, June. You see I’m a Gemini, and we are flexible. We love everything and everyone. Beautiful blog, Kari. I remember the song April showers very well.

Kari, I love Miss April! However, she isn’t my favorite month, that belongs to October. Miss April has much to offer as you have so beautifully described. Wishing you a blessed Easter, He is risen!
Kari says
Thanks Pam…we are having a few soft rain showers as we speak, but I believe there are those who are having a bit of bad weather and we are giving them our prayers and thoughts on this first day of April.
Take care my friend, and enjoy the Holy Week.
Zechariah 9:9 “Rejoice greatly, O daughter of Zion! Shout, O daughter of Jerusalem! Behold, your King is coming to you;
He is just and having salvation, Lowly and riding on a donkey, A colt, the foal of a donkey.
Blessings Always
