Green Cameo Easter
I love Peter Rabbit and as I looked at previous Easter posts, I found this table setting with my Peter Rabbit dishes…now come on, who can resist this impetuous little rabbit? I have had these dishes I ordered from William Sonoma for almost 10 years and I never tire of them. Let’s re-visit them, along with my green cameo pieces.
I mean look at that cute little Peter Rabbit eating his carrot.
Who could resist that face?
So when the salad plates arrived at my door….I couldn’t help but wonder what I had that would go with this little carrot eating rabbit in Mr. McGregor’s garden.
Hmmmmm…Could Green Cameo Depression Glass be in the picture?
It didn’t take me long to know I wanted Peter to be the star of the tablescape and I would use my Green Cameo Depression Glass.
Green Cameo Depression Glass
You have not only seen my Depression Glass, (click here to read about my Depression Glass) I have spoken of it often because I love it so.
I started collecting Depression Glass a little over 30 years ago in a little antique shop in Traverse City, Michigan.
I was with my Sister-in-law and she collected the Pink Adam Depression Glass.
Each time we went into a store or flea market, I oohed and aahed over her Pink Adam.
Finally, she suggested that I collect a pattern and although it took me longer than a minute to decide on a pattern and a color…I chose the Green Cameo Depression Glass. And then we entered that little shop on a little traveled two lane side road near Traverse City and I was hooked.
I spied a footed cake plate and almost knocked down my SIL and the shop owner, as I raced to pick up my first piece.
I remember it was $25.00, but I didn’t care if it was $125.00, I knew I had to have it.
Over the years I have found pieces at Estate Sales, Flea Markets, Antique Shops, Depression Glass Conventions, EBAY and on-line.
I have never found a complete set in one place…just a piece here and there, each showing various signs of wear….none with chips or cracks though.
I have a service for 8 in all pieces, grill plates, salad plates, cups and saucers, berry bowls, sherberts, water glasses, juice glasses….but only a service for 4 in the non grill plates.
I’m always looking for new (old) pieces. And that is all the fun… looking.
It can be expensive, considering the colorful pink, green, blue, clear, yellow dishes were mostly free give aways way back then.
You see, Depression glass refers specifically to glass produced between the mid-1920s to about the end of World War II. Nearly all Depression glass was produced in or near the Ohio River Valley, with about 20 companies producing approximately 100 different patterns during that period. A piece of Depression Glass was given away at movie theaters to entice theater goers to attend movies. Sometimes you could get a piece of Depression Glass in a box of laundry soap. Or you could go to the five & dime and buy a piece. Now a-days, you might pay a little more for this rare glass.
To continue my table setting, I picked up this little bunny pair…Mr. & Mrs. Bunny from the Valerie Par Hill collection.
I just love that Mr. Bunny is pulling the wagon full of carrots and Mrs. Bunny is pushing from behind. A couple little yellow chicks are sitting on top of the carrots.
For the plate stack, I started with a pale yellow tablecloth and added a white charger.
On top of the charger I placed a grill plate. (as I stated above, I also have the plates with no dividers but I chose to use the grill plates)
On top of the grill plate, I added the Peter Rabbit salad plate.
On top of the Peter Rabbit plate I added a Depression glass salad plate, followed by a berry bowl and a little green egg cup holding a green speckled egg.
I love how the green cameo salad plate lets Peter show through.
The egg cup is NOT Depression Glass, but I did find them at World Market about 10 years ago.
At the top of the plate stack, I added the stemmed Sherbert glasses filled with green grass and jelly beans.
To the left of the Sherbert glass, is the water glass and the juice or wine glass.
On the right side of the plate stack is a coffee/ tea cup and saucer. Below that is a green napkin with white lace. The green handled flatware I purchased over 16 years ago and I can’t remember where.
You can see the old salt & pepper shakers…the metal dented from years of use by the original owners. (that is what I love about them, each piece must have so many stories to tell.)
I have two sizes of water pitchers, only one is shown here. (I was running out of room on the table.)

I have a mayo compote (very rare), a jam & jelly bowl, a couple serving bowls and I used the cookie jar as my vase for the daisy’s I found at the super market.
I love when I go in a antique store or stop at a Garage sale and ask if they have Depression Glass. If they say …’yes, there is a yellow piece over there’, I know they don’t realize what they have…and I get excited. If they are specific and say “Yellow Florentine”…I know there is about to be a bit of haggling going on, which is part of the fun in finding new pieces.
I have several books on Depression Glass by Gene Florence and if you are interested, look him up on line.
So there you have my Green Cameo Depression Glass Tablescape with Williams Sonoma Peter Rabbit salad plate that we are using for our Easter Dinner.
Oh, and you might be asking why ‘they’ named my Depression Glass Green Cameo? It is because there is a little ballerina in a cameo on the side of the piece. It is sometimes known as Green Ballerina.
Have a Blessed and wonderful week!
Happy Easter! He is Risen!!!
Matthew 28:6. “He is not here; he has risen, just as he said. Come and see the place where he lay”

I love the charm of Depression glass. Your green Cameo is perfect with Peter Rabbit. I love how you can still see the pattern of the salad within the stack. We have sold pink, blue, green and amber Depression glass in our booths over the years. It’s hard to find it without chips, but when you do, it’s nirvana.
So true Rita…I examine it closely when I find a piece. 🥰. I envy your panoply proximity to so many vintage pieces of every era. I do remember about 25 years ago visiting a special sale of about 10 vendors of only Cameo Depression Glass and I was on cloud nine! Thanks for stopping by my friend. 🐇🦋🐇🦋
I love this color of green. Awesome.
Thank you Rebecca…I love it too! Thanks for stopping by. 🥰
What a wonderful collection of green Depression Glass you have, Kari. How versatile it is too. I love any green dishware from your dishes to Jadeite to Bordallo Pinheiro Cabbage plates. You are always teaching me new things. Didn’t know the divided plate was called a grill plate. Disappointing ending for our favorite team at the last second. Here’s to next year.
Thanks Jan and yes I was disappointed too especially since I thought the guys were working the clock so well to take us to an overtime…but the dude Darling slipped in a basket.🫣. I just hope Bill comes back…guess it depends on his health. Thanks for your sweet comments on my post. I do love my Depression Glass and use it frequently. My mother didn’t collect it but because she got it ‘free’ so her pattern was yellow Madrid. hugs and Rock Chalk Jayhawk!
I loved reading about how you got into collecting the green depression glass, Kari. What a wonderful collection you have and perfect for Easter and Spring. Your Peter Rabbit plates are so colorful and adorable. Happy Spring!
Kitty, Isn’t it interesting how cute and adorable these little characters are…until we have to deal with them in our gardens, although so far my bunnies have stayed in the front yard where they don’t seem to do as much damage to plants and flowers. LOL. Reminds me of the Tom & Jerry cartoons where we cheer for Jerry the mouse, while in reality, I’d like those little critters to stay out in the fields. Thanks for taking the time to stop by. hugs and blessings always. 🐥🐇🐝🌷
Well, since I’m in love with Peter Rabbit (that scamp!), you know I would be in love with your table. The plate shows so beautifully through your Depression glass pieces — and that’s quite a collection! (Wish I could find that little antique store in Traverse City!) And of course all the touched with the bunnies, chicks and jelly bean nests are just the cutest and make it so fun! This is indeed a treat!
Thanks for stoping by Jeanie…and for your sweet comments…I wish I could remember that shop’s name, but that was too many years ago…LOL I do love my green glass and you are right, the way the pattern shows through makes the table a bit more interesting I think. Happy Easter dear one….hugs🥰🌸🦋
Wow! I had no idea depression glass was so hip. I got rid of all my stuff a long time ago, so I could get more modern stuff. Beautiful though, Kari! So sad the Jayhawks lost. Boo hoo! Happy Easter to you and The Captain!
hugs,
Sandy
Oh Sandy I thought the Jayhawks could pull it out but not enough time. Even if we would have won, not sure we could beat Duke…they are consistently good this year, and lets face it…we have been up and down like a yoyo. But there is always next year. Rock Chalk. Happy Easter to you and Ron. thanks for stopping by. Hugs my friend.
Kari, I still love the WS Peter Rabbit plates. I have Peter Rabbit salad plates from Pottery Barn, but I think the ones from WS are prettier! The green Depression Glass is my favorite and I have a few pieces. Your collection is amazing! Wishing you a wonderful week, my friend!
thanks for the double stop Pam….I have to admit I am a softie when it comes to Peter Rabbit….and I cheer for him in the garden. However, I know they aren’t so cute in our current gardens…and can be so destructive. Have a great and blessed day. hugs my friend.
Because I like all things Peter Rabbit, I’ve looked at the plates again and again without yielding to temptation. I went to WS yesterday to spring for the spatulas and all were gone. Bummer!
try looking on line Linda…https://www.williams-sonoma.com/shop/easter/easter-peter-rabbit-baking/ they are there and on sale for 4.99 each! I buy everything on-line! 😉
I have been contemplating the WS Peter Rabbit plates, but so far I have resisted. Your table is beautiful with your collection of depression glass. I have some green, pink, and yellow but I don’t know the pattern names. You have been an avid collector and are very knowledgeable! Love the table my friend!
Okay, before I could even finish looking at this, I had to go check out if Williams Sonoma had the Peter Rabbit stuff on sale. …they do, but not too much of a sale, boo. I love your green Depression Glass, you obviously have learned much about it. I have a couple of pieces of green service ware and a lot of clear Miss America and a few pieces of pink Miss America. I would love to pick up some more to incorporate into tablescapes. Happy Easter!
Isn’t Peter Rabbit cute?
Adorable Kari! I enjoyed reading about the history of Depression Glass, I had no idea! Yes, the thrill of the hunt is very fun! Enjoy your Easter table this weekend!
Jenna
Thanks Jenna…the world of Depression Glass is fun.
Kari, your table is absolutely beautiful! That green cameo glass is gorgeous! I love the color of the green and it blends well with your modern pieces! Love and hugs sweet friend!
thank you I love the green color too. thanks for stopping by dear friend.
Beautiful table! I love, love the glasses in particular. What I’ve been looking for for years!
thanks Debbee! Do you collect a certain color and pattern of Depression Glass?
