Midweek Errands Today
Here was the agenda….
- I had a follow-up appointment with the doctor who did my cataract surgery.
- I also had to run by the bank to deposit a check and pick up some cash.
- I wanted to go out for a nice leisurely breakfast,
- I wanted to check out the new super market in town
- I wanted to deliver some of my already-read subscription magazines to a couple local businesses, (My beauty salon and Urgent Care Center)
First stop, The bank!
I went to the bank to make the deposit and to get a little cash…I almost never carry cash, but I like to have a few bucks in my pocket in case I need it for something!
Now, I hadn’t seen old Ben Franklin in a long time, obviously…so when I opened the white envelope the drive-up teller gave me, I was shocked to see a blue bill with a blue stripe to the right side of old Ben’s face.
I pushed the call button and asked the teller if she knew I had a blue colored bill.
She said yes, that it was one of the new $100.00 bills that had been released in Sept or Oct of 2013.
I laughed and explained my logic…I just wanted to make sure it was not one of those time sensitive bills that explode blue ink all over you. I certainly didn’t want any high speed car chases with the police in pursuit. 😉
She laughed! and I thought to myself, … I really need to get out more!
Next stop, Perkins Restaurant for my leisurely breakfast.
So I am sitting in a booth beside a window eating my breakfast when I felt and heard a big thud!
Just outside the window, a red car came up on the sidewalk and slammed into a tree.
The red car knocked out two park benches on the corner before coming to rest outside my window. (no one was sitting on the benches)
It appeared a grey car and the red car collided in the intersection and luckily, no one was hurt! As you can see, the front end damage is extensive.
Suddenly, I was no longer hungry as all the customers in the restaurant converged on my dining booth to view the damage outside.
I quietly and unobtrusively paid my bill and left to run more errands. So much for a quiet leisurely breakfast. 🙂
My next stop was the super market.
The new Super Market had just opened boasting of “2 for sales”.
I knew I would not be buying anything requiring refrigeration as I was on a “check-out-the-new-store” mission, but perhaps I might pick up a few non perishable items.
In the aisle housing broths, I saw this pricing ad under the beef broth. I chuckled to myself and thought “Oh yeah! …. I’m buying the 2 for $5.00 beef broth”!! 😉
After my visit to the market, I went to my doctor appointment.
Apparently, I need to have scar tissue removed from my lens’. So a “laser” appointment was made for next week.
However, the doctor refracted and dilated my eyes so I had blurry vision and a sensitivity to light.
Walking to my car in the bright Florida sunshine, I donned my huge dark glasses, squinting and shielding my eyes.
Once in the car, I notice an young woman dressed in white, motioning me to roll down my window. As, I complied, she nicely asked that “in the future, would I please park in the patient parking area and not in the employee parking area?”
I looked around and couldn’t really tell where one started and the other ended, but she continued talking to me, explaining that the number 12 was stenciled on the parking stop near my front wheels…and that was her parking spot.
I apologized, …all the while wanting to tell her…lady, I can not see anything but blurs, BUT that would not have been true when I arrived…. so I smiled sweetly and pulled out of her spot.
My observation had been that I would sit in my car, in the shade until my eyes were accustomed to the brightness… but I know I am not the first person to have their eyes dilated, so I suck it up and drive to my next appointment…all the while thinking of the red car driver and wondering if he had his eyes dilated before his issue with a car, park benches and a tree. 🙂
My next stops were Urgent Care and the Beauty Shop, where I delivered the stack of magazines, (they voiced their appreciation).
A few doors down is a little cafe that the Captain and I frequent, and it is called Annie’s. I was feeling nature calling and it was now lunch time.
I walked into the cafe and and saw this sign!
I had to laugh out loud…I know what the sign meant to say, but you know me, I can find humor in almost anything…..so I said to the young hostess/cashier….”what if I can’t wait until next week to go?”
She gave me a puzzled look and I laughed and waved her off and said “never mind, I have a weird sense of humor” 🙂
After my Restroom break and a delightful, uneventful, chicken salad lunch at Annie’s, I came home.
My eyes are normal now…things are no longer a blur.
In fact as I am typing this post, the most beautiful pair of cardinals are perched 3 feet from my window in my Secret Garden.
I can’t help but admire his bright scarlet feathers … and she is just as magnificent with her coat of many colors, intermittently splashed with red.
I should have grabbed my camera, but I didn’t want to spoil the moment.
With all the events that happened today, I am reminded to appreciate each moment. I am so very thankful that I can see and enjoy the beauty of life. (Eph: 5:20)
I hope your errands, midweek, today or any time are pleasant and fun experiences! 🙂

Those mammoth sunglasses remind me of the T-shirts you brought back to KC with the Three Kitties. Yours was wearing those mammoth sunglasses. I still wear mine (shirt, tho a bit threadbare) and smile when I think of the fun we had. Glad you got home safely.
Kari says
I had forgotten about those shirts, Annie….but now that you mention it, I remember them clearly. I did wear mine so much that the kitties started crinkling! hahaha
Another bit of fun we had….remember when I sang Happy Birthday to Mike H. on the phone? Don’t think he looked at me the same way after that!:)
Donna says
I think you should start taking “selfies” so I could see you in your mammoth sunglasses.
Kari says
It isn’t pretty Donna….I look like one of the chipmunks, with my pudgy cheeks and over-sized glasses! 🙂

OMG, Kari, the driver could have hit you sitting there in the window. So glad you made it home safe, too.
If I remember, there are other new bills, too. There’s one with gold. I think it might be the twenty, but don’t quote me.
Kari says
It was close Sandy…and yes, he could have come right into the restaurant. I have to admt that I was more concerned that the drivers were all right…and they were!
