From Here To The Moon And Back…

From Here to the Moon and Back…is a song that is near and dear to my heart for many reasons!

I had another post all ready to publish today, until I received an email from my dancing friend across the Pond.

You will hear me refer to her as my dancing friend across the pond  because she lives near London….and she loves to dance!

Although she has a full time job, she manages to go to Dance Holidays in all parts of the world.

In fact, she is going to Spain in June on a Dancing Holiday.

I am so fortunate, that I have many friends living in foreign Countries.

I love them all…many have been friends since 2004 and a few have been friends long before that.

But that is another post for another time. 🙂

And if you follow me regularly, you know I give everyone near and dear to me special little monikers.

I’m weird….yep! I think that makes me a little weird!

Or odd…or ….oh well…whatever! 🙂

You also know that I name inanimate objects. 🙂

But I digress…..

So my dancing friend across the pond emailed me and commented about a movie she had seen which included a poignant moment when Dolly Parton sang the song From Here To The Moon And Back.

It is a love song….(remember I am definitely a romantic)!

And I definitely remembered the movie and the song! In fact, I have the song on my Play List and play it often.

Dolly Parton wrote the song for the movie “Joyful Noise”

The background for the movie in case you have not seen it:

** “After the untimely death of a small-town church choir director (Kris Kristofferson) in Pacashau, Georgia, Vi Rose Hill (Latifah), a no-nonsense mother raising two teens alone, takes control of the choir using the traditional Gospel style that their Pastor Dale (Courtney B. Vance) approves of. However, the director’s widow, G. G. Sparrow (Parton), the main benefactor to the church, believes she should have been given the position. As in previous years, the choir reaches the regional finals of the national amateur “Joyful Noise” competition, only to be disappointed when a rival choir beats them. Tough times in the town have led to budget problems that threaten to close down the choir, at the same time as the town needs the choir’s inspiring music more than ever.”

The movie did not win any awards, though it was nominated for Best Sound Editing – Music in a Musical Feature Film.

And the critics were not too kind either, giving it a 2 star out of 5 stars, while some have called it another “chick flick”.

Regardless, as my dancing friend across the pond noted…there was a very poignant scene where G.G. Sparrow (Parton) sang the song From Here To The Moon

And Back,  while remembering her late husband.

In a visual, she watched from inside her home…and there in her backyard, she saw herself dancing under the stars with her late husband.

I have shared with you all…how special the Moon has been for the Captain and Me. And this is no different.

As I said earlier in this post, the song lyrics are near and dear to my heart for many reasons!

I wanted to print out the lyrics to this song, and perhaps they will have a special meaning for you too.

Thanks my dancing friend from across the pond, for memories both past and present!

And Keep Dancing!

From Here To The Moon And Back

I could hold out my arms, say “I love you this much”
I could tell you how long I will long for your touch
How much and how far would I go to prove
The depth and the breadth of my love for you?

From here to the moon and back
Who else in this world will love you like that?
Love everlasting, I promise you that
From here to the moon and back
From here to the moon and back

I want you to know you can always depend
On promises made and love without end
No need to wonder how faithful I’ll be
Now and on into eternity

From here to the moon and back
Who else in this world will love you like that?
Forever and always, I’ll be where you’re at
From here to the moon and back
From here to the moon and back

I would blow you a kiss from the star where I sat
I would call out your name to echo through the vast
Thank heaven for you and to God, tip my hat
From here to the moon and back
And I’ll spend forever just proving that fact
From here to the moon and back

  1. Lovely words Kari, as we all hold onto that dream of dancing in the arms of the one we love. Dancing has brought me such lovely friends (some odd ones too hehe) and I’ve been to some amazing locations, but if it the right piece of music and the right partner it doesn’t matter if it is in Havana or the local sports hall. Just need to keep the energy to match my enthusiasm…. and a few more vacation days would help too. From your friend across the pond xx

Please comment, I'd love to hear from you.
