Scarves, Bandanas, Pashminas Oh My!
Friends, I have a confession to make. I not only love scarves, I have way too many of them. I only came to this realization recently. My sweet friend Susie and I have been trying to pare down our closets. We decided if we worked on these areas a little at a time we would soon have neat, tidy minimalist closets… because we both admit we are clothes-a-holics. We talk on the phone daily recording our progress. We did not say or even think we could do this overnight…this is a long Summer process, most likely leaching into Fall, Winter and Spring. 🥰
We are also finding neat organizational solutions and my most recent tool is this clever scarf hanger. I decided I needed a scarf holder when I found a huge box of scarves in the back of my closet. I was sure I would give the box to the Goodwill or Kiwanis, but first I would of course, sort through them. Boy was I surprised. I always have worn scarves and I have a few trusty ones that I hang on a small rack in my closet and I tend to wear the same ones over and over with different outfits and they always change the look….and for the better. I believe they are chic looking and I am almost always complimented on the whole outfit, but I believe it is the scarf that changes the look.

Friends, I had to buy two of these scarf hangers and hang at least two scarves on each rung! I love how they keep my scarves in full view and easily accessible. You can find it available here if you are interested. As I look at the photo, I realize it would look much better if I hung the scarves in a color order. Sigh!
I am not sure if I shared my Govee lights with you, but we have had them for about 5 years and finally put them up about 3 years ago and I love them. I change the colors out for each and every holiday as well as everyday colors. It is so simple as I use my phone. Of course I have them set for red, white and blue. The below photo is inside our courtyard.
And this photo was taken standing in the street in front of our home….the Captain suggests I put the colors in order…red first, white next and blue last. I like to give him my Scarlett O’Hara movie line…“I can’t think about that right now. If I do, I’ll go crazy. I’ll think about that tomorrow. After all, tomorrow is another day!” 🥰
The photo below is from the street in front of our home.
The Captain and I were standing in the street when we caught movement behind us and we turned and a cute little Burrowing Owl was watching us. Of course he turned his head when I snapped his picture…I don’t think he wanted his family to recognize him…these little owls are only about 6 inches tall…their legs are very long, but even with that, they don’t get over 6 inches or so. They are endangered here in Florida and very well protected.

Since we are talking this N’ that…and 4th of July is Saturday..I thought I’d show you a Patriotic table I set up several years ago. Definitely the Red, White and Blue! The title of the post is Happy Birthday America It is one of my personal favorites and I included a copy of the Preamble, (the introduction to the Constitution), a quill and inkwell. If you want to check out all the pretty details just click here.

Sunday Fashion
I also want to introduce a new addition to my posts..It is called “Sunday Fashion”: The reason I am adding this element is because I am always asked where did you buy that? And with my memory these days, if it is something I have had for years…I have to take time to think about it.. Usually, it comes to me in the middle of the night and I sit up in bed and say/shout “Joan Rivers on QVC about 10 years ago! ” Where upon the Captain sits up in bed and says “What are you talking about? Are you having a bad dream?” 🥴 So I am going to include Sunday Fashion each week and I will provide the outfit I wore, which is usually a weekly church or Bible Study outfit.. If this doesn’t interest you, just scroll on down ,but I will show the complete outfit (some may call it an ensemble, but I will say it like we say in the Midwest…an outfit.) I am aware the term “outfit” comes with many meanings, We use that term as a clothing term, or a group of people, or a singular person who does outrageous things. LOL. I am certainly not a fashion expert; and I come from a place in time when we matched our purses to our shoes, etc. That is not to say I don’t venture outside my comfort zone and wear the unexpected, because I also do that. I believe my hair attests to that. I try to keep my hair very short on the sides and back…almost like a man cut….but I ‘spike” it up in the back at the crown…I can do that easily with the 1-2 inch length at the crown using Kenra taffy. I texturize the much longer hair on the top which gives me (I believe) a stylish look. As most of you know, I am not a spring chicken… and I am not trying to look younger. I don’t do Botox and at this stage of my life , I don’t believe I would ever do a face lift though I do not judge those that choose that route. I just want to age gracefully and I think I am doing that, …up to this point.
Oh, and by the way, You won’t see me modeling these outfits, 🫣 and for the time being, I am featuring the clothing and accessories lying on my bedspread🥺…perhaps I will find a better way to show them. The outfit above consists of navy blue slacks, (they are actually called yoga pants but in my opinion, they look & feel more like dress pants), red sequined sleeveless top and white Blazer. I did not lay it out very well, but one of the things I like about this blazer is it is narrow at the waist…and not boxy at all. The accessories are red ear rings, red bucket handbag, red flip flops and red sunglasses. I will give the sources below if you are interested. The glittery sequined top normally hangs in the back of my closet, brought out on “red” occasions such as Valentines Day, Christmas, Patriotic Holidays such as 4th of July which is this current occasion. I will tell you I like to wear Blazers as they cover a multitude of sins as well as being very versatile. Mix and match is always much easier. I sometimes wear a hat and have several…I didn’t wear a hat with this outfit but would choose a wide brimmed red or straw hat if I went that route. I will also give you sizes (yes, I am beyond worrying about small, medium or large as I wear what is comfortable…I have earned that right at my age!) Unfortunately, fashion companies vary on sizing and what you might wear with one company will not fit right with another company. For the record I am 5 ft 4 inches tall, Due to my post Pancreatic Cancerous condition, my weight goes up and down like a yo-yo…has to do with no enzymes, Whipple Surgery and digestion, etc, (God gave us a Pancreas for a reason)! By the way, The Whipple Surgery is a reconstruction of your internal organs, and in my case, the intestines, stomach, esophagus, (literally, cut and removed part and sewn back together) and complete removal of Bile duct, gall bladder and pancreas. This may be TMI, but it explains my reality and sizing. So my weight hovers around 140, Just after surgery, I weighed about 125-132 and my doctors were telling me to gain weight. Most times when I eat, my food goes straight through me and my body gets no nutrients. This is my new way of life. Sooooo, consequently, I can wear a small in some pants and a medium in others. I can wear a small or medium in some tops but if I am buying a T-shirt for example, I go with a large. My friends say they would love it if their doctor told them to gain weight and If nutrition wasn’t so important for my body, I would probably love it too.. 🥰
Now just as an FYI…I have a confession to make….I do not like to go shopping in a brick & mortar store…I have been shopping on line for so many years, I have lost count. And when I find clothing that fits well and I like it, I will purchase it in many colors.
This started about 40 years ago, when I was working in an office, I would find a 2 or 3 piece suit at Macy’s or where ever… and yes, I would make sure it fit at the store and then I would tell the fashion sales person to call me when she got it in different colors and I would buy them and have her send them to me or my husband would pick them up. I am far from being anti social, I just don’t like trying on clothes with those awful mirrors and having to shop all day to try to find the right dress or jacket in my size. I love being able to look on line where the choices are better and I can sip on my cuppa tea in the comfort of my home. I do realize that on line fashion shopping has affected the retail industry and I do feel bad when they go out of business. I just prefer to be comfortable and I am not worn out and exhausted as I was in the ole’ days. So when you see “I have 7” in the fashion comments below…you won’t be surprised.

I wish my closing photo was as pretty and bright as it was when I took the photo on the way to the airport.. (The Captain was flying out)

I just love rainbows and as the Captain was driving, I had to take the photo between cars if you know what I mean…Of course I broke into song… the children’s song,, singing “I can sing a Rainbow” Do you remember this song?
Red and yellow and pink and green,
Orange and purple and blue.
I can sing a rainbow,
Sing a rainbow,You can sing one too!
Listen with your eyes,
Listen with your eyes,
And sing everything you see.
You can sing a rainbow,
Sing a rainbow,
Sing a long with me.
Red and yellow and pink and green,
Orange and purple and blue.
You can sing a rainbow,
Sing a rainbow,
Now you’ve sung one too!
Blessings Always
So I will close with this promise from God…..and thank you for reading my post on fashion titled “Scarves, Bandanas, Pashminas Oh My!”
“I have placed my rainbow in the clouds. It is the sign of my covenant with you and with all the earth. When I send clouds over the earth, the rainbow will appear in the clouds, and I will remember my covenant with you and with all living creatures. Never again will the floodwaters destroy all life.”

Thank you, dear Kari, for explaining your cancer story and the whipple surgery. You really are an inspiration.
I do love all your scarves, even though I’m not a scarf person. I like seeing them on people and how smart they look.
Your outfit is so cute and I appreciate you sharing your links to the items. I’ll get you are so stylish for church and Bible study.
Oh, I forgot to mention how much I love your colorful lights. You’re such a fun person!
Happy 250th Birthday celebration for our great country! 🙏🏻❤️🇺🇸💙🙏🏻
Kitty, thank you for stopping by and for your encouraging comments. Just as an FYI, I post sources/links on my blog because my friends ask for them …but I have to admit I am not doing it for the money. In fact, In all these years, I have not received one cent from any vendors or Amazon! LOL.🥰. It is probably because I do not post sources often enough and I do it more for my friends who I have most likely already shared with privately. …and quite frankly, I choose not to ‘work hard’ to push products.. LOL That is what retirement is all about isn’t it? not working hard anymore….at least that is what I tell myself. If I ever do get any revenue, my plan is to go to McDonalds and get a fish sandwich with fries and coke…that is if I have enough moolah from my sales. LOL 😂🤣Happy 4th …250 years, WOW! 🥰🇺🇸🇺🇸❤️🤍💙 to you my friend and God Bless America!
Kari, I loved your post. Now for the scarves, I probably had 30 or more and loved wearing them. One day I decided I was finished with them and packed them up and took to a thrift shop that benefits children. Now I am not suggesting that you do that. Your outfit looks perfect for America’s 250th birthday! Kari, you are a miracle! God is so good! Blessings always, my sweet friend!
Thank you Pam for your sweet comments…In my mind, I know I need to thin out my scarves, but in my heart, I am still attached to each one. 🥴. LOL
I hear ya on the donating…especially to a good cause. I have given quite a few boxes of my clothes to the Kiwanis Organization as they are a non-profit and have very very low prices on their re-sale items. We also have an organization our church supports called Disciples of Hope Ministry. Our church meets every Saturday morning to give away clothing and food to hundreds of people in need. It breaks my heart to see the little ones tagging along with mom or dad. I always think of that verse…Hebrews 13:2. “Do not neglect to show hospitality to strangers, for thereby some have entertained angels unawares”.
Have a safe and happy 250th 4th…God Bless America!🥰🥰🥰
Oh my, my scarves are also a bit of a nightmare. I found a neat hanger that is actually for ties, has little j hooks along a ~6″ wooden rod with hanger at top to put on the bar in closet. (Did that make sense?) I have several on that, as well as another hanger that has horizontal bars shorter than yours, and more (also for belts), but it’s not closed on its ends. That thing is so stuffed, and I generally have one or more fall down as I try to get the one I want. Cute outfit there, lady, and fun varied post. Have a wonderful 250th! I love your home with the lights.
Thanks Rita for stopping by…My intention is to color code my scarves so I can keep said colors together…the other scarf hanger is just as full as the one in the photo…🥴. I think I only got rid of TWO scarves! I put them in the goodwill box…. I just hope I have the good will to leave them there until I can get them out of the house. 🥴🤗. So much for de-cluttering the scarves. The lights please me so much and leaving them up year after year is so much easier than regular Christmas lights for example. These are very small, flat disks that are actually called permanent lights because of the way they are installed. No one notices them until they are on…and I can make them orange and black for Halloween or red and white or red and pink for Valentines Day OR just have them one solid color that can dim or flash or be in motion. All controlled by my phone. Have a safe and happy 4th of July. 🥰🇺🇸❤️
First of all, Kari, how did I miss that you had been sick? I must not have been paying attention to detail, You have always had such a beautiful outlook on every situation! Love your blogs, it’s like spending time with you, listening to your stories and just enjoying our friendship. God hold you close and keep you going!
love you.
Laura
Oh Laura, yes it was an ordeal with Pancreatic Cancer. I posted my journey from the beginning and through each stage….starting with the post July, My Journey Begins. https://meandmycaptain.com/2019/07/journey/
if you are ever bored and have absolutely nothing to do, you can read about it. I tried to post my progress as sort of a diary for my kids…if God chose to take me home. I was in and out of every hospital in this area as well as Moffit Cancer in Tampa. My Oncologist wanted to fight this cancer with 4 different types of strong chemo as well as radiation and this knocked me flat on my back in bed for 9 months. I was so sick just from the chemo pumping into my body 24-5…I got 2 days to rest up …just in time to start all over again. I can remember almost dying not from the cancer but the side affects from the chemo ….that the Captain called the kids and said’ better say good-bye now’. There are about 10 or so blog posts about it. I never lost my faith in God and His healing powers…because I viewed it as a win/win situation. Heaven or Earth, His choice. After the 9 or so months of chemo and weeks of radiation, on Friday the 13th, my Oncologist said she was ready to do the 12 hour Whipple Surgery. She asked me if I was superstitious and I said Absolutely NOT. I’ve given it all up to God as He is in control and all things work together for good. She told me just before they wheeled me into the operating room,…”you know you have a 1% chance of surviving this surgery”…and I thanked her for being truthful and said I am in God’s hands. 12 hours later she said there was nothing to do but “vacuum up” the residue from the chemo. I had tubes everywhere, including a feeding tube for several weeks. There is a song by Don Moen called “I Am The God That Healeth Thee” Please click this You Tube link and listen to the words. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=op-NZCJUfnM
That was in 2020 and I still go for Cat Scans and lab work every 3-6 months and am cancer free. The result is a new way of life…I can’t put anything in my mouth without taking Creon (horse sized pills) I have to eat every two hours, and I tire easily, get diarrhea which causes dehydration, walk a little bit unsteady at times and a few other issues…. but I am here! And I praise God every day.
Not a thing wrong with lots of scarves! Actually I think I have the same scarf shown on the upper left in your picture.
Your lights are fabulous and fun!
thanks Donna and good to know we have the same taste in scarves…and I enjoy changing out the lights for the different seasons. When the days or weeks are nothing special..I just make them all green or all pink or all blue…etc and sometimes they are just all white. I never want them taken down and they are so small and flat, no one notices them in the daylight. thanks for stopping by and have a happy 4th! 🥰
Hi Kari,
I have to admit I’m not too fond of anything around my neck, so I seldom wear a scarf. I did enjoy your blog though and I like your red, white and blue lights. Also, I loved your little owl. So cute!
Hugs,
Sandy
Sandy, I am not too fond of that either…I have been tying them different ways and sort of keep them from making me feel like I am choking. I tie them midway down my front. Have a safe and happy 4th my friend. 🥰🇺🇸
This post was uch a treat. I’m a scarf fanatic myself and have so many (two large grocery bags I have to sort through, along with those already on my scarf hanger. And pashminas. I really have to get on that project one day! I color code clothes in my closet but never thought of doing it for the scarves.
It was interesting to learn more about your medical background. Never TMI! But it’s really wonderful that you have gone through this and seem to thrive. So, three cheers for that. It makes the weight fluctuations and everything else worthwhile. Big smiles!
(Love your lights!)
Thanks for your kind words Jeanie….I gave a more detailed response to Laura above regarding my cancer journey…as I told her it was quite an ordeal. According to the Captain I almost died on 3 different occasions which had more to do with chemo and radiation than the cancer. I do remember being in the hospital with so many blood clots the doctors said they couldn’t count them and one large one was in the right atrium of my heart according to an echocardiogram. The doctor said call her kids, she won’t make it through the night. Next morning, the same dude did another echocardiogram and the blood clot was gone. He kept saying “I can’t believe it …it is a miracle” …I said “God answered prayer.” Thanks for stopping by my friend. Enjoy the lake! I am sure it is cooler there.🥰🇺🇸
