Spring is bustin’ out all over!
All over the meadow and the hill!
Buds’re bustin’ outa bushes
And the rompin’ river pushes
Ev’ry little wheel that wheels beside the mill!
Ok, apologies to Rodgers and Hammerstein! For those of you who remember the musical “Carousel” ...you will know that the lyrics are June is bustin’ out all over! Didn’t you just love the songs and music from that classic musical? Example: “If I loved you” and “I’ll never walk alone”…and of course a song that wasn’t as popular….my namesake’s song…..“Give it to ’em good Carrie” when the fishermen wanted the clambake to get started and Carrie wire brushed them.
“Wire brushed them” is a phrase from my days at Boeing….an idiom that many co-workers used meaning to “scold or push back a bit”.
Check out this link Immortal Quotes from FS Representatives for my post on more such “idioms”:
But I digress……great musicals and idioms aside….Spring is bustin’ out all over in most of the parts of the country and that means…time to get outside and enjoy the weather…because if Spring is here, Summer is right around the corner which means lots of outdoor time.
Yesterday I posted about sprucing up your living areas inside your home and today we will talk about sprucing up our outdoor spaces. Below is a pic from my front foyer or some could call it a front porch.
Time to dust off and wash off and give our outdoor space a few potted plants seating area and make an inviting place to sip lemonade or sweet tea.
I have to admit that I used to be one of those to buy a couple hanging baskets…hang them up and grab a chair (any old chair) and called it my out door Spring decorating.
However, these days, I try to put more effort in decorating or sprucing up my outdoor spaces. Below is a pic from my Secret Garden!
I want my lanai and Secret Garden (or porch and deck for readers up north) to feel more like a room instead of just a place for some potted flowers or a table with perhaps an umbrella. It is true, some front porches are small and don’t leave room for chairs or even a small table to set your drinks….but what about your back decks or a patio or an area dedicated to a few chairs and a few other amenities.
I was looking through a few magazines and a few websites and found the following suggestions for outdoor spaces.
Keep in mind that some of these elements can be a bit expensive to add all at once, but my method is to take an idea from one or two, adapt it to my style and apply to an area in my own outdoor space.
So sit back and look at the pics and decide for yourself…what will fit for your outdoor space.
I especially like the outdoor curtains in the pic above and last Spring, I too, put outdoor curtains on my lanai. See pic below.
Perhaps you remember that post, if not here is the link.
My confession however, is I used painter drop cloths for curtains….and I have received so many compliments on these outdoor curtains and there is no sewing involved. Easy peasy!
So my dear readers, choose whatever decorating tip or element that fits into your budget and your outdoor space and make it happen.
And if I were at your home….I would be sitting with you having a nice cold drink to start off the Spring/Summer season….that is if you would have me. 🙂
Hugs and Blessings…

Ah that lovely little pottery shop, with the amazing plant pots… which were way too big for my baggage allowance, but my little frog made it home safely.
Think the wind chimes were the Corinthian Bells – not sure but they were large and the tone was deep and very mellow.. 50 Inch Wind Chime was on my search history… but I could have been browsing… hehehe
Hugs from across the pond xx

Hi Kari,
Oh for the weather to be so nice that you can actually sit outside.. Yesterday was the first day this year that I could mow the lawn ..well part of it.. have already filled the bin and using my walk behind/push electric lawnmower takes a couple of hours..
Spring is still here.. found some snowdrops hidden under the winter debris… saw the Robin… and spotted a Blue Tit actually using one of the bird houses.. Spotted a Fox walking through the broken fence the other morning too..
As you know I love your home, its design and the lovely touches you customize it with… only today I was talking with my new Rep who has a house in Florida, that I openly covet your home.
I regret not buying those magnificent wind chimes on my last visit to you… their tone was pure luxury… Having already borrowed one case from your lovely Captain… it would have been tricky to get them home!
But the key is to be able to find the time to sit and smell those roses… I’m still working on that 🙂
Put your feet up Kari… you’ve earned it… enjoy!
Sunny smiles and hugs to you xx

Thank you for your kind words….and it is funny that you mention the wind chimes…we were down to the pottery shop a couple weeks ago and I thought of you. It was very crowded as they were having a sale and I could not really find what we were looking for so we left without purchasing anything. We vowed to go back when it was less busy. Can you describe the chimes to me as I have forgotten which ones you liked. Perhaps they still have them.
Thanks for following my Blog….I so appreciate you.
