Happy Thanksgiving!

Thanksgiving is a time when we give thanks for a wonderful Harvest.  We don’t plant a garden anymore and depend on the local Farmer’s Market, but we are grateful for the bounty we have.!

Thanksgiving CenterpieceFor this table I started with a large vase of Autumnal branches and leaves.  They are faux but I really like how they appear to be real.  I used large artichokes in the center of the vase.  I also plan to remove the large arrangement when we sit down to dinner and replace it with a smaller arrangement.  I don’t want my guests to duck and dodge trying to see the guests on the other side of the table.  I started with taper candles on each side but added small gold votives on each side of the centerpiece which I liked better.  I placed gold tapers and made my decision to use all gold.

Thanksgiving Table scapeFor each place setting, I used a straw placemat, rustic beige dinner plate, brown napkin topped with the same rustic beige salad plate.  The flatware I chose was also a hammered gold.

“I am grateful for what I am and have. My thanksgiving is perpetual.” — Henry David Thoreau.

Thanksgiving Serving Table

Thanksgiving BuffetI like to plan my main dishes and sides by setting up a station using the same gold name card holders showing what foods are being served as well as the serving spoons.

The candles above were called ‘brown’ but they looked more mauve, so I replaced them with gold.

As you can see the table is very simple, rustic but has touches of elegance.  I believe my guests will feel comfortable, which is my goal.  The Captain and I invite neighbors who don’t have family close by. I don’t want people alone when we can be sharing a meal.  Thanksgiving is the laughter, the stories, and the simple joy of being surrounded by people we love as well as enjoying good food together.I have learned over the years, that gratitude is everything. I’ve found that being thankful for what we already have, rather than focusing on what we don’t, is what brings us true contentment.

Sources are from many years ago:    I have had these elements for several years.  Several were from Pier 1, Bed, Bath &  Beyond, Crate & Barrel and Amazon.

Rita has done it again…she keeps rising to the challenge of herding cats.  OK, that may be a bit of an exaggeration but not by much. A big ‘Thank You Rita’ for a job well done on organizing our blog hopping.  These hops are always inspirational…and if only one of our followers (or each other) finds a way to utilize his or her family get-to-gather by implementing a different table scape idea…then the efforts are well worth the time.
