Kitchen Cabinet Roll Out Shelves

 

Good Morning everyone!

I am so excited to share my Kitchen Cabinet Roll Out Shelves with you!  We recently remodeled our kitchen and put in different cabinets…we didn’t add all new cabinets, we just added new doors and re-finished the cabinet framework … but it has really made a difference in the kitchen’s look! After the contractor installed the new white doors and the hardware, I had one of my “great ideas” and this is where the Captain stepped up again.  Golly, I love that man!  He is wonderful and the best part is that he loves me!  OK, enough of the mushy stuff!

The plan was to install roll out drawers to house all the stuff beneath the cabinets. The Captain went to one of our local big box stores and purchased the roll out drawers (they come in all sizes) for each of my bottom cabinets.  Imagine! no more getting on bended knee and searching for an elusive item way in the back of the cabinet. (And with my knee surgery several years ago, I developed arthritis and the bending and stooping can sometimes be a pain…depending on the weather!) 🙂

This is the new home of my pots and pans….never to be stacked inside each other again and so handy and easily accessible.

This is one of my lower cabinets with crock pots, bread maker, small hand mixer and a waffle maker on the right side. These drawers roll out with ease and I can even roll them out with one finger….so cool! 🙂

I’m sure many of you have already found this little secret of pull out drawers…and I don’t know why I had not thought of it before now…. but everyday that I pull open a shelf/drawer, I say to myself (or anyone who is listening)  just how much I love the ease of getting to the back of the cabinet.

Everything stays much neater and cleaner! The best part is I can see and find everything!  In the past I have had something either slip behind or fall behind or perhaps moved to another cabinet and I would spend valuable time and effort searching for the elusive item. You will note on the above cabinet, there is only one roll out shelf on both shelves. I opted for only one on each which allowed me to store odd size appliances in places that were too narrow for a second pull out shelf. I have a rice cooker on the right top shelf (nothing behind it) and a long narrow European toaster on the bottom right shelf. I just love those toasters….you put the toast in and it goes through the heating coils and slides out the bottom…..love it! No standing waiting for the toaster to pop up!

The captain decided that I also needed pull out drawers for my pantry. This purchase and install proved to be not only a convenience, but a money saver as well. I find when I’m making my grocery list, I just open the drawer and can see at a glance if I need another can of tomatoes etc.  Great, great investment.

 I decided to add a knife holder to one of my large drawers.  After all Martha Stewart says knives should never touch in the drawer or it dulls them.  (My knives always touched in the drawer….no matter how hard I tried to keep them separated.  Goofy knives)   🙂  🙂

I also found metal, slots that screw down to the bottom of the cabinet and it holds my cookie sheets and pie tins….

This was a brilliant idea!  You know how you have to reach up into an upper cabinet to put away/remove plates, bowls and such?  I had some extra drawers and so I put rubber matts in the bottom and placed my plates and bowls in a drawer! I love the ease of this solution. They do make actual plate and cup separators but they were expensive and so I picked my battles with the budget.

I have saved the most wonderful cabinet shelf for last…..The electric mixer shelf!  Wow! do I love this. I have two stand mixers and red one sits on the counter top and the other one is now tucked away on a swing out shelf.  I never have to lift it out of a cabinet and I use it all the time.  It does take up all of a narrow cabinet, but for me it is worth it. The spring-swing allows me to easily swing it out for use and then push it back down when finished. There is an electrical outlet inside the cabinet, but you could always use an exterior outlet. I store my mixer blades under the shelf.  Everything is in one place.

So for a few bucks, the Captain transformed the insides of my cabinets into a dream kitchen! As a footnote….the Captain said the installation was a breeze once you figured out how to do the first one. Pretty simple!
