Chim Chim Cher-ee and The Tile Roof…Yes, we do have a fireplace and a chimney and a tile roof and they all need periodic cleaning.
Living in Florida has “perks” …and among the most obvious which is the weather, there are the houses which are mostly stucco, and if you are lucky, you have a tile roof to go with the architectural design.
The Captain and I have such a house.
One might think it is not lucky to have a tile roof for a number of reasons.
I simply love the terracotta color of the tile roof of our stucco home.
However, as with all “pleasures”…there comes a price.
A Tile Roof needs occasional tending.
As in, cleaning the grime and dust and mildew off of these fragile tiles.
Because they are made of clay, one can not just jump up on the roof and start hosing it down with a garden hole or you will end up with broken tiles and then of course, they will need to be replaced.
So most people hire companies with special cleaners and power washers to do the job.
This should be done about once a year….or if you are lucky…once every two years.
This is considered “good maintenance” on your investment because these roof tiles are very expensive.
Silly me! I thought that the rain would take care of the job….but the Captain said the rain actually causes some of the mildew etc. 🙁
OK…so now we have had our roof cleaned about 3 times since moving to Florida 4 years ago.
Our tiles were beginning to show a few dark spots, so a few weeks ago, we hired a contractor to come and clean our tiles…and they did an excellent job.
I decided to show you a few pictures of the process.
Good for at least another year!
Chimney and roof done! Check!
Now if I can find the Captain to clean the windows, we will be in good shape! 🙂
Have a good day!

Oh my, Kari, if only house upkeep wasn’t so much work and money. Looking good though.

You are so right Sandy…we have got to protect our investment though, don’t we? Thanks for stopping by.
