The Blue Boys of October!
Please pardon this interruption of my regularly scheduled post… to bring you the most exciting news to hit Kansas City in a long, long while.
29 years to be exact! It was in 1985, the Royals team went to the play-offs,… and then went on to the World Series where they beat the St. Louis Cardinals!
Last night, Sunday, the 5th of October, The Kansas City Royals Baseball Team did a “sweep” of the ALDS (American League Division Series) Play-offs and each game was exciting! Yes, they won all 4 games! (one WildCard Game and 3 Play-Off games)
The quote below from USA Today…says it all:
“KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Nobody likes to leave a party early after waiting 29 years for an invite, least of all the Kansas City Royals, who’re having an absolute blast.
The game’s new darlings assured themselves of sticking around for more October festivities by thrashing the Los Angeles Angels 8-3 on Sunday to complete an improbable sweep of their American League Division Series.
After eking out extra-inning wins in their first three postseason games since 1985, mostly relying on speed, defense and a terrific bullpen, the Royals put together the kind of complete game that should give pause to the Baltimore Orioles, their opponents in the upcoming AL Championship Series.”
I am so proud of this team….it has taken them a long time to get the right combination of players, passionate to win for Kansas City.
Believe me when I tell you that I sat in Kaufman Stadium… for many years “celebrating” the Royals 100th game losses…..but I never gave up on them!
The Captain would ask me…do you really want to go and sit through yet another loss…and I always responded “this time they could win and I want to be there to see it”!
AND the icing on the cake….pardon the pun….is knowing that last night, they beat the Los Angeles Angels, reportedly the best team in the league!
And believe me, the Angels are a great team!
They have the heavy home run hitters of the likes of Albert Pujols and Mike Trout (perhaps you have seen Trout in Subway Ads hitting baseballs to call in his sandwich order) ;0

Salvadore Perez , on top of the Royals dugout, wearing his championship shirt, sharing with the fans the clean sweep! This amazing catcher is only 24 years old with the maturity of a much older person as he “reins-in calls” for each pitch.
The Royals did a clean sweep of the American League play-off series, and many fans showed up at the game with broomsticks signifying their faith in the Royals talent.
George Brett, the famed 3rd baseman for the Royals was in the stands and his expression says it all….the drought is over.

Friday evening…They say it is better to have love and lost than never to have loved at all. That’s been Hall of Fame slugger George Brett for 29 years. Brett had played with the Kansas City Royals for 11 seasons by the time the club won the World Series in 1985.
George has been at every game for many years and the night before’s win….television camera’s caught George jumping up and down, much as he did when he played in the World Series for the Royals. (If you are familiar with baseball, you will remember George Brett and the Pine Tar incident.)

1st baseman, Eric Hosmer, congratulating the most unlikely base stealer in the league, Billy Butler… on his base stealing! 😉
Yes, it has been quite a week, with baseball games nightly….but it is not over yet….there are more games to play before the final big series (World Series) which starts the 21st of Oct.
But for today and the rest of this week…The Kansas City Royals can bask in their victories, as they prepare to play another series of games starting Friday where they meet up with the National League’s, …The Baltimore Orioles!
Good Luck my dear Royals….it has definitely been a party so far!
Now, back to my regularly scheduled posting!…Canning Salsa! 😉
