Far From The Madding Crowd….A Movie Review!
The Captain and I went to church yesterday morning….had lunch and then went to see a movie in the afternoon.
We chose “Far From the Madding Crowd” and I am so glad this was the movie we chose to see.
“Far From The Madding Crowd” is based on the literary classic by Thomas Hardy, and I can remember reading the book many, many years ago.
It is the story (set in England) of a beautiful independent young woman Bathsheba Aberdeen..(pronounced BATH’-sha-ba) who believes she knows what she wants in life.
When she is left a farm by her deceased uncle, she begins her journey with mercy and compassion and along the way attracts three different suitors.
Her first suitor is the laid back and mellow…rugged sheep farmer, Gabriel Oak, who admires her determination and willfulness.
Another suitor is her prosperous and much older bachelor-neighbor, William Boldwood… who is captivated by her youth and charm.
And the third suitor, Frank Troy, is a young, handsome officer with a bright red uniform and forceful…take the bull by the horn, qualities.
I have to say that the Captain and I truly enjoyed watching this movie almost as much as I enjoyed reading the book.
The movie stayed pretty true to the original story line and there was not a curse word or nudity scene anywhere in this movie.
Yeah!!!!
This timeless story of Bathsheba’s choices and passions explores the nature of relationships and love in a Victorian era.
I like period dramas…..perhaps I romanticize too much….but I also like the challenges of the human ability to overcome life’s difficulties through resilience and never giving up.:)
Have you, my dear readers had the opportunity to see this movie?
Thoughts?
Have a great Monday!
