I have to confess that I love to cook and be in the kitchen making fudge and cookies and other goodies. It actually calms me and I am happy to report that my only daughter and my beautiful grand daughter number 3 feel the same way.
I am not saying that you can cook yourself into a calm state…it only works for some people, but it makes sense to find moments when you can busy yourself in the kitchen with all your attention focused on putting ingredients together which can give you a sense of purpose …AND a wonderful completed dish.
Having most of the shopping and decorating all tied up in a red ribbon helps.
And this allows you to sit back and cuddle up to read a book or simply relax with your loved ones.
That is why I like to have everything done (or at least as much as can be) so that the last week before Christmas is a time to relax in front of the fireplace….yes, we do have a fireplace in Florida and sip on something warm and refreshing and that something is Hot Wassail.
Many people wonder at what it is but after they taste that wonderful cinnamon taste, they are hooked and want the recipe.
So, I am posting the recipe again because it is just sooo good.
It is made with apple cider and red hots and cinnamon and all spice and nutmeg and if you want to spice it up a bit more…you can add rum just before serving. I love it without the alcohol but it is strictly a matter of taste.
So my dear readers….below is the recipe for my wassail. I put it in a crock pot (or you can put it on the stove) and it simmers away filling the house with all the good smells of Christmas. Sometimes I will slice a few oranges and place the slices in the simmering drink…purely up to you.
Have a great and blessed day.
And relax. 🙂
Hugs
