Fairies, Leprechauns And The Luck Of The Irish!
My dear readers…Valentine’s Day is past and now it is time to plant potatoes (and/or cabbage) and plan for St. Patrick’s Day Festivities.
Ok, I won’t be planting potatoes on March 17th…but we will be celebrating the wearin’ o’ the green!
Some believe in Fairies or more realistically, some of us simply like the mystique of the idea of fairies.
We have all talked about Tooth Fairies, Pixies and Tinker Bell as well as any other little legends of book and tale.
I know I have.
One cannot be a romantic and not believe in Fairies…or at least sort of.
And for those of us who “sorta believe”.…we really know in our hearts, but it is fun to fantasize, isn’t it?
And who hasn’t thought of the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow?
Yes, reality tells us that is not possible because rainbows do not really have a beginning or end touching a meadow.
And reality causes us to ask, why would a fairy collect gold coins if they cannot spend them and why give us the promise of that pot of gold at the end of the rainbow, if the rainbow is elusive?
Tis legend of course. (*see Rainbow note at end of post)
You might remember that I made a cute little fairy garden a couple of years ago and it sits out on a shelf in my Secret Garden. I have several fairies in that little garden.
If you missed how I made it….click here, for the Fairy Dust…And Moonbeams post.
I am sure you have also heard of Fairy Rings. Below are two pics of Fairy Rings….
And no, these Fairy Rings are not caused by grubs or fungus or wild mushrooms or…..well, you get my meaning, don’t you? 🙂
I also have a book that speaks of fairy rings and the magical poem below is from an unknown source.

“If you see a fairy ring, in a field of grass,
Very lightly step around, tiptoe as you pass…
Last night Fairies frolicked there,
And they’re sleeping somewhere near.
So if you see a tiny fairy lying fast asleep
Shut your eyes and run away.
Do not stay to peek!
Ok, my dear readers…..:)
Today’s tablescape has a bit of that magic mixed in with garden cabbages, sprouts, and gold coins. The centerpiece also sports shamrocks and carnations in the brown keg.
The gold coins are shown spilling forth from the brown spigot on my barrel keg, (look closely) which I thought made the centerpiece a bit more interesting.
Green Cabbage Plate Stack
I used a cabbage leaf place mat and placed a white ironstone dinner plate on top of that. Green handled flatware and green goblet sit alongside.
On top of the white dinner plate, I used a cabbage salad plate and bowl. The cabbage leaf pattern is from Portugal and is called Majolica Bordallo Pinheiro Green Cabbage.
I love these cabbage plate dishes and I feel fortunate to have numerous serving pieces that I have collected over the years….finding them at garage sales, Tuesday Morning, Home Goods and Pier 1. Some are not quite the same pattern, but close.
The soup bowl will hold a hearty amount of Irish Stew.
I love this little whimsical teapot with bunny lid which I placed on one end of the table and on the other end, a green plaid fedora hat.
A bit of trivia….did you know that the Fedora Hat first appeared in 1882 as a female hat?
Yep! A play was written and the title role of Princess Fedora Romanoff was played by Sarah Bernhardt wearing…..a center-creased, soft brimmed hat!
Furthering the green plaid approach, I used green plaid napkins secured with a white cabbage napkin ring, which I placed in the cabbage soup bowl.
Since Fairies come from the Garden….I used fresh garden vegetables such as Artichokes, Brussel Sprouts, Granny Smith Apples as well as a few white daisies, and cream colored spider mums to surround my keg labeled Irish Pub.
Instead of a brew spilling out of the spigot, I displayed the gold coins….and for whimsey, I added a cabbage teapot with a little white bunny lid. I also sat it on a white pedestal featuring a small bunny trying to climb to the teapot.
I hope you enjoy this St. Patrick’s Day Tablescape….I have several recipes to follow that are exceptionally easy and follow along with the Irish theme.
Until then….Irish Blessings to all.
“Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.” Hebrews 13:8 ESV
*The Rainbow: The rainbow is a sign of the everlasting covenant between God, humanity, and all living creatures. When the rainbow appears in the clouds, it serves as a reminder of this promise of mercy and protection.

Happy Belated St Patrick’s Day, Kari! I sure enjoyed your whimsical post with fairies and your Irish theme. Your centerpiece is darling with the gold coins spilling from the spigot and your dish stack is so lovely. I’m imagining your stew in the pretty cabbage bowl. The bunny teapot is adorable and on the cutest bunny stand. Your green plaid ties all your prefer shades of green together! ☘️💚☘️
Sometimes it’s best not to ask too many questions. Just believe. After all, we all need to believe there is a pot of gold somewhere, if only we can get to it before the fairies and leprechauns! Your table is beautiful — I love the garden centerpiece. It’s perfect for your theme and the china is just right!
I sent a comment yesterday that seemed to disappear, but I wanted to stop in and wish you a Happy St. Patrick’s Day and let you know this is a fabulous tablescape, Kari.
Happy St. Paddy’s Day, Kari ☘️💚☘️I love your tablescape with the cabbage ware. The whimsical teapot with bunny lid is charming…you know I love teapots💚 The history of the fedora is interesting. Every detail of your table is perfect, my sweet friend💚☘️💚
Happy St. Paddy’s Day to you Pam and thank you for your sweet comments. I’m a pushover for teapots and have way too many but I can’t help it. I hope your weather is co-operating and Spring is in the Air. Hugs and Blessings ☘️☘️☘️☘️
Happy St. Patrick’s Day to you, Kari. I love your table. It would’ve taken way more than the luck of the Irish in this past season of basketball (and maybe in next year’s season) for our Mountaineers to have gone to the March Madness dance. Mr. P. thinks they shouldn’t wait and should just go ahead and cut the coaching losses now. Our ladies, on the other hand, are dancing. Good luck to your Jayhawks.
Thanks for stopping by Rita…have you filled out your bracket(s) yet? It has been a crazy year for our #4Jayhawks…up and down like a yoyo. We beat Arizona and Houston and Iowa State when they were at the top of the National polls (#1 and #2’s) and then we play unranked teams and lose by 10 or 15…makes no sense. I don’t think coaching is our problem…I blame the Portal and NIL. It is ruining college sports. BTW, (we, a # 4 team have to play in San Diego, half way across the country. while we play a #13 team who travel a couple hours) go figure! Oh well, it is what it is. I just hope we can make it past St. John’s…provided we get past Cal Baptist first! Our women are NOT dancing 🫣 but are going to the WBIT ranked #2. Good luck with your lady Mountaineers. ☘️☘️☘️☘️
Kari, This is a stunning table for St. Patrick’s Day. Love all the cabbage dishware and accessories. Surrounding the Irish Keg with the green apples and vegetables made a wonderful centerpiece and then a tasty one afterwards. Roasted Brussel sprouts are a favorite of mine
Hope the Jayhawks find their magic touch real soon. It was painful watching them on Thursday.
Oh Jan…we are at the line now…I just hope the Jayhawks can find a rhythm….they just don’t seem to have the enthusiasm and I am not sure why. Maybe after this short rest they will begin to feel ‘it’ and get out there and play hard…I know I may sound like a dreamer…but if they play like they did against Arizona…they could go all the way. Thanks for your sweet comments on my table…the Captain and I love roasted veggies, especially green Brussels, Broccolini, Cabbage and of course Granny Smith apples….I’m thinking Irish Apple Cake. Have a wonderful St. Patrick’s Day ☘️☘️☘️and Rock Chalk Jayhawks
Kari, I bet you remember Snake Saturday in North Kansas City. It’s their tradition every year for St. Patrick’s Day, but usually a couple of days before St. Patrick’s. I love your tablescape. Kari, did you happen to know Carol Wade? We have lost a lot of people from the base.
Love and hugs,
Sandy
Sandy I do remember Snake Saturday and went to several of the parades when living there. Such fun standing on Swift street (I believe)! Thank you for your kind sentiments and Yes, I did know Carol Wade. I believe she passed away a couple years ago, right? Yes, we have lost so many from TWA/American. Luv ya ☘️💚
Kari, yes Carol died a couple of years ago. I went to her visitation and there were so many people there. She was well liked. Yes, Snake Saturday was always fun. Also the St. Patrick’s parade in Kansas was fun too.
Oh Kari, You have the most beautiful table-scapes ever! Thank you for sharing. Love and miss you.
Laura (KC)
So good to hear from you Laura…thank you for your kind comments and for stopping by. I guess it is a sign of getting older as I am really missing our days at the ‘Hangar’ and think about them often. I miss our walking down that quarter mile hall together with our high heels clicking and clacking and laughing all the way. Luv you too and give my love to the girls and Chuck.🥰💚☘️
Kari, love your St. Patrick’s post. We all love fairies. Your centerpiece with cabbage and artichokes is so perfect. My hubby loves eating steamed artichokes with his homemade sauce. Your cabbage dishes are perfect. The plaid ties nicely with your theme. I hope you have a wonderful St. Patrick’s Day.
You are so sweet Linda…thanks for stopping by. Happy St. Patrick’s Day!☘️☘️☘️
This is such a cute table! I love all the cabbage!!💚💚 love the plaid hat too!! Whish I could find a tablecloth or napkins with that plaid.
Thanks Ann…I found those on line through Amazon.
Hi Kari,
This is a fabulous tablescape! The centerpiece is awesome. I’ve never thought to use green apples/vegetables as a display for a St. Patrick’s Day table; however, it works so well!! Thanks for sharing~ 🍀
Thanks Tammy….sometimes all we need is what we have around the house. Now, if I just would acquire a taste for artichokes! I love it in a dip, but not as a veggie! 🙁 Thanks for stopping by…hugs!
