The question does not have to be asked…you know the one.
The one where someone says how did it get to be Memorial Day already.
Let’s face it folks.
As we get older, the days fly by…much faster than when we were kids and couldn’t wait for holidays to show up.
To me, as a kid, the days would Drag by and I was wishing the upcoming holiday would magically appear …unless…
Unless it was the start of school and the end of summer.
Actually, that was a double edged sword, as I really wanted school to start, but not with all the homework and study time it would require.
Kinda like kindergarten….all fun, naptime and milk and graham crackers if we were lucky. 🙂
But I digress…
Memorial Day week-end is upon us and we living in SW Florida are looking for blue skies, although the weather person says rain for the next week.
However, the daring living on the edge person that I am….the Captain and I will be eating alfresco in between rain showers.
Yep!
We will be in the Secret Garden and I am excited to sit beneath the Edison lights enjoying our dinner.
My tablescape is relatively simple.
I started with white placemats sporting blue stars.
I topped that with an blue enamel dinner plate and a flag salad plate.
The flatware is red, white and blue and the napkin is a red bandana.
The iced tea is in mason jars with a closed lid and a sparkler straw.
The centerpiece is a galvanized watering pail with red and white geraniums and blue carnations.
Of course there are flags everywhere and a good ole’ USA sign to boot.
I love the red, white and blue nutcracker, although his face looks like a bit of a grouch.
Perhaps he is worried it might rain on his flag he is holding…but he does have an umbrella overhead.
I threw in the straw hat with the red, white and blue striped band because, well, just because I liked it. 🙂
You have to forgive the Plumaria blossoms that are scattered about. They leave a wonderful fragrance that I couldn’t just blow them away.
I know, I am weird like that.
And I also couldn’t resist taking a picture of this little gecko as he strutted his stuff trying to attract a female gecho.
Isn’t he sweet?
I guess Spring love is in the air as we slip into Summer.
The Menu is also simple…
Bar-B-Q Chicken Wings, Potato Salad, Baked Beans and Cole Slaw.
The dessert is store bought.
I might even convince the Captain to haul out the home made ice cream freezer and I will mix up a small batch of vanilla ice cream with fresh strawberries.
Yum!
Oh, everything on this tablescape is something I have used before in other tablescapes….so like the Bible verse goes..”there is nothing new under the sun”
OK, that was a stretch with the meaning, just wanted to see if you were paying attention. 🙂
However, if there is something you would like to ask as to where I “got it”….ask away and I will tell you.
Blessings to all of you and please be safe this holiday week-end.
