Living in Florida has it’s advantages…
and it’s disadvantages!
One of the disadvantages is e-v-e-r-y-t-h-i-n-g grows 24-7, ….365 days of the year.
One might think how wonderful that you don’t have to wait 7 years for an old-fashioned lilac bush to bloom.
I wish that were so, but because the overnight temperature rarely gets below 70 degrees…we can’t grow lilacs, peonies, forsythia, tulips, daffodils or any perennial that needs a wintering over.
But we can grow certain perennials if we put them in a large pot.
And watch them carefully.
Which is what I do for my hydrangeas.
Many of you grow hydrangeas in your flower beds and I am jealous.
I have tried that, and for me it does not work.
However, I can grow them in various size pots and that is what I do, along with large pots of knock out hot pink roses.
Every 6 months…the Captain and I spruce up the Secret Garden and other flower beds at Villa de La Luna….(in other words, our home)
This involves a deep trimming of removing droopy leaves on Ti plants, trimming branches of the Plumeria tree and hibiscus bushes….and any other touch-up needed.
Actually, we try to keep up with the growth on a weekly basis…. or you feel like you are in a jungle.
So when it is time to dramatically cut away growth, we do so without a guilty conscience, because the plant or tree will come back stronger than ever.
It is a given, that we must continually add new mulch, …. if you drive around town, you will see bags of mulch stacked in preparation for the sprucing up of people’s front gardens.
I shared a few pictures of my Secret Garden on Instagram and I would like to share a few more today.
In addition to adding new mulch, the Captain hung Edison lights for me.
Our pergola has had tiny LED lights attached to the top beams and I have always liked the lights when entertaining.
Also, a few years ago, I bought green laser lights that made the Secret Garden Magical…. the pic below was taken about three years ago.
Every year we make changes to this wonderful space I call my secret garden.
I can’t tell you how much I enjoyed being out there with all those little lights resembling lightening bugs as they twinkled and sparkled.
But I also love the Edison lights and it is a different ambiance.
And I also love it when I capture the blue hour which for me is a very special time of the evening in my Secret Garden.
Do you have a special place you go for quiet time or just to sit and read?
I would love to hear your comments.
Hugs and Blessings.
So pretty wish I was there💙
Thanks Sweetie…you don’t know how many times I wish you were here too. Even though we talk and text, it is not quite the same as sitting down and having a cuppa something and talking one-on-one! Hugs Always
