Harvest Moon? We Have A Ghost of a Chance to See It Tonight!
I love a full moon and especially a Harvest Moon, but the prediction is a Gibbous moon on October 31st… and in case you are not familiar with the term it is:

- Gibbous: refers to the shape of the moon when it is more than half illuminated but not yet fully illuminated.
- the phase of the moon in which its illuminated part is greater than a semicircle and less than a circle.
- Usually the Harvest Moon is in September, but the Harvest Moon this year is on October 6-7, depending on your time zone.

- ( I love that Linus tells Charley Brown: “Never jump into a pile of leaves with a wet sucker.”) from the story of “It’s The Great Pumpkin Charley Brown”
So park your brooms and lets get started.

OK, lets talk about my Fall tablescape. As many of my friends and blogger friends know, I don’t really like a scary Halloween and so my decor reflects happier ghosts. I have said many times that I adore Casper, the friendly ghost over any other goblins, ghouls and ghosts. That is not to say in years past, I haven’t decorated with crows/ravens and an occasional witch splatted against the door. You can see those posts here and here. I guess my age is showing because I don’t like scary….and I NEVER watch a scary movie.

Today my table is made up of ghosts. A ghost here and a ghost there and well…a ghost just about every where. A ghost centerpiece.

There are a total of eleven ghosts with different expressions and four ghosts encircling the napkins.
I also used ghost salt and pepper shakers at one of the place settings and decided to add a separate salt and pepper for each of the other place settings. Sort of a personal touch.

The above set of salt & pepper shakers match the napkin rings. I love their cute little pointy heads and expressions, Who could be frightened at these little ghosts?
I started my plate stack of Desert Rose dinnerware with rattan place mats rather than a tablecloth.
You might think the desert rose dinnerware and tea set do not look too much like Halloween or even a Autumn table setting. But I like that the twisty brown vines on the rims of the plates and the sporadic roses remind me of garden winding down from the summer’s growth.
A funny story about the Desert Rose Dinnerware is when I was first married, a local jeweler offered the dinnerware as a promotion along with the purchase of jewelry. After getting the dinnerware home, I decided I did not care for the pattern and gave it away. Later, I regretted my decision and had to go searching for a set.

I am using green handled flatware and green linen napkins that are encased in little ghost napkin rings.

The glassware is also green stemmed goblets. I added little scarecrow figurines along with a few apples to bring out that Harvest vibe, since the Harvest moon is not co-operating. The first is a scarecrow with pumpkin.

The second is a scarecrow with a crow.

And the third is a little girl scarecrow with a butterfly.

You have seen these little happy scarecrows in several of my previous Autumnal posts.
Down the center of the table are ghosts in different sizes and shapes. I bought these several years ago from Mollie Jenkins Pottery. They make different ghosts each year and no two are exactly the same. They only offer the ghosts for a short time and when they are sold out for the year, one must wait until the next year to purchase more. I have bought these ghosts over several years. Below is a photo of them with candles inside.

I thought you might like to see the ghosts lit up at night so here are a few photos. I do love these ghosts but they can get very hot, very quickly when a candle is inserted … so I’m thinking of using the little battery operated tea lights….much safer.
I also added another ghost that I had sitting in another part of the house. It is from Hay & Harvest and it is a Holographic ghost. It is so cute as it changes colors or you can set it to one color. I placed it in the center of the table.

The below photos are using candles in the ghosts…..

These next three photos are showing the small battery operated tea lights (much safer) along with the centerpiece Holographic ghost color changing from blue to pink.

Below are the items I used in this tablescape with the Holographic ghost being a recent purchase.
Holographic ghost: Hay & Harvest last year; Dinnerware, tea cups and tea pot: Desert Rose, EBAY and Etsy and thrift stores, several years ago; Straw place mats, Flatware and stemmed glasses, On-Line several years ago; ghost salt & peppers, Temptations several years ago; Pottery ghosts: Mollie Jenkins Pottery, several years ago; Scarecrows: Valerie Parrhill, several years ago.
Enjoy the blog hop as we begin the Fall Season of Autumnal, Harvest, Halloween or whatever the name you prefer to use.
“….And with that thought, Pooh tucked the leaves carefully on the windowsill beside him, and decided that perhaps the best way to begin an autumn morning was with a little gratitude, a little honey, and maybe, if Piglet came by, a very small adventure too.”*. Winnie the Pooh
Blessings Always

Below are other stylists sharing their Halloween Tables. There is sure to be inspiration for anyone. Thank you Rita for organizing this blog hop and setting timelines that are so beneficial to a successful hop. 🎃🥰🎃

Kari, I love all your sweet little ghosts arranged down the table. That no two are alike must make them very special to you – sort of like a collector’s limited edition. They look so cool when the candles are lit inside. The S&P shakers are adorable too and Mr. holographic ghost is so fun! I love the non-traditional color palette that you chose; the plates are so pretty with the vines along the edges and it looks like you have a few other pieces from the collection. The scarecrows and rattan placemats add just the right touch of fall. Beautiful! Happy October and happy Halloween!
Thank you Kim for all your kind comments and I do love the happy ghosts lit up at night. The colors are definitely not the usual Halloween colors but it seems to work at this table, Thanks again and blessings always.

Thanks Kim…not sure what the issue was but I have two comments from you and I thank you for both of them, LOL. thanks for letting me know and I hope you have a great and fun October.
Boo Kari! Your ghost are all so cute! I love the night time photos, scary! Of course the Holographic ghost steals the show, how fun is that!!
He is fun Jenna as he changes colors and adds a dimension to the table. Even the Captain likes him as he comments each time I “Plug” him in…the Holographic ghost, not the Captain. !!!! 😂😂🎃🍽️🧹👻👻👻
I am with you – there is something about that Harvest moon that always stops me in my tracks!! Your ghost collection is adorable – so fun that no two are alike-it must be fun to see their expressions when they are lit up at night!! I laughed at your comment about the occasional witch splattered on the wall 🤣😂I don’t like gory – but a bit spooky works for me!! I hope you have a fun Halloween🎃👻
Ann, the little ghosts have their own little expressions and I can’t help but smile at them when they are lit up at night. thanks for your kind comments and for joining in the fun. Hugs
Kari, aren’t you the clever one to use the beautiful Desert Rose dinnerware and the rattan placemats for this fall/Halloween table. I like your reasoning behind your selection. Wow, what a ghostly collection you have. I especially like the cute napkin rings. Such a fun table.
Jan I do love happy ghosts but they better be on the table only. LOL. thank you for your kind comments. On another note, I was a bit disappointed sports wise this week…🏈football you know…both the Jayhawks and Chiefs.🏈 The good news is the weather has cooled down a lot. Yay!
Good morning Kari, I’ve seen those cute ghosts from Molly Pottery online, but didn’t realize who they were from and that no two were exactly alike. It makes collecting them all the more fun! I love their ghostly illumination at night.👻I’m a big fan of Johanna Parker’s art and licensed designs that your cute ghosts salt and pepper shakers and napkin rings are a part of! Your little scarecrows make for a happy collection and autumn display too. Thanks so much for the Halloween fun this morning. It’s always a treat to have a seat at your table. Wishing you a wonderful October!🍽️🎃🧡
P.S. Love your skeleton crew resting their weary bones in the kitchen too. 💀
thanks Mary…the “crew” actually sit out on the Lanai (near the outdoor kitchen) in the courtyard so the Captain and I have to share our coffee time with them every morning! In years past they have sat in the Secret Garden or greeted our guests to park their brooms at the front door. They can be a bit boring because they really have nothing to say… so we sip coffee in silence looking at their ugly centerpiece of dried out mums (which between you and me…they must have never watered). I’m not one to put down anyone’s clothing, but they wear the same outfits year after year. Sigh! Perhaps I could suggest new outfits but I’m afraid it will fall on deaf ears. Happy October!
Hi Kari, Happy Halloween! What a playful ghostly tablescape! It definitely reminded me of Casper the friendly ghost that I use to watch as a child. With your Holographic ghost, it provides so much evening drama. I am sure adults and children alike find it gives a theatrical feel. My heart melted when I seen the cute little ghost napkin rings and, of course, the collection of scarecrows. I also can see why you wanted to reclaim your lovely dinnerware, Desert Rose. It is gorgeous. So much fun at your ghostly table. Happy Halloween and it is so much fun partying with you.
Marsha you are so kind….thanks for stopping by. Golly, we have been doing this for so long and I have vowed to not buy another dish so when I dig through my stash and find something old like those napkin rings and s&p shakers, it is like Christmas all over again. I had forgotten they were a part of Johanna Parker’s collection until Mary mentioned it…and I have appetizer plates to match but they will be used another time.
I am not into scary either! So Halloween is about fun for me.
I do remember Casper. Loved him!
I am a desert rose fan as I have a set in AZ. How cute to add your ghosts.
The Harvest Moon was pretty last night and was covered in clouds this morning. I hope to see it tonight.
Enjoy your Halloween time!
You are so kind my friend, we share our love for the Southwest in so many ways. We are like kindred spirits as Anne off Green Gables would say. Thanks for stopping by.
How cute, Kari! I love your Desert Rose plates…all tables need pink for October! You have gone all out with your decor. I love the brooms, and your collection of ghosties is spook-tacular! All the salt and pepper shakers are adorable. Your guests should enjoy them! What a cute idea. Thanks for posting the nighttime shots so we could see your illuminated ghosts. Happy Halloween!
Yes Ricki Jill….the pink is special for me too. I like looking at the various ghosts when passing by the table and that makes me smile. The Captain is always commenting that it doesn’t take much to make me happy and he is correct…it is the little things in this world and the beauty of God’s creation…the blue of the sky or the sound of the song birds. AND fellow bloggers like you… thanks for stopping by
I saw the Harvest Moon last night and then again early this morning. Your table is so fun either way your assortment of ghosts and figurines, Kari. I really like the holographic ghost for its fun colors. I never ever watch scary movies either! Happy October to you!
Kitty the moon has been spectacular here in Florida. Never tire of looking at it. I was going to put a little video of the smiling holographic ghost in this post but I got lazy and decided I’d posted enough pictures…but you are right, he is a fun ghost. Thank you for stopping by.
Oh, Kari, what a fun table setting. Also, I never watched horror movies as a kid and even now I don’t like scary movies. Loved your ghosts and scarecrows. What a great way for the start of October.
Hugs,
Sandy
thanks Sandy for stopping by…do you have many trick or treaters at your home? We don’t anymore…however our church has a trunk and treat and there are thousands there. whew. hugs my friend
Kari, we were dining on the patio with family last night and the harvest moon was cloud covered off and on, but still beautiful! I have always loved the Desert Rose pattern, it is very nostalgic. Your ghost group is quite amazing. I also remember liking Casper, the friendly ghost cartoon. Wow, Kari that was decades ago😉 The witch on the wall is hilarious! You are a collector like I am! What will we do with all of our collections? Hopefully they won’t end up in a yard sale! It is always fun to sit at one of your tables and hop with you 🧡🎃💛
Forgot to say, I love the scarecrow figures! They are darling!!
Pam I don’t know what will happen to our collections. My daughter has said she doesn’t want any of it. She is definitely a minimalist!!! But just between you and me…I don’t think she is from my loins!😉😂😂🤣 LOL my boys did say they each want a cookbook…..now what to do with all the rest? hugs and thanks for stopping by my friend
My daughter-in-love is also a minimalist!!
There’s something so special about a Harvest moon. Love your group of ghosts. The ghost napkin rings are adorable, such cute little faces. Desert Rose is always a winner. Your table is lovely. Adding the little fall accessories is so fun and perfect for the Harvest moon. Your table is so pretty with all lit up. The Holographic ghost is so fun. Always a pleasure joining you.
thanks for stopping by Linda…I like to leave my table set up once I take photos and that way I get to enjoy it even if I am not serving on it. Many times we do eat on the place setting. Luckily, I have another dining table we use when leaving the tablescape set up…Actually, when I think about it..I am not hurting for dining tables as there is one in the Secret Garden, One in the courtyard, one in the front foyer (near the witch broom park) and a small one set up in our Master Bedroom. LOL. I have seen many of yours so I know you do too. 🍁🎃🐿️🧹👻🍽️
I saw the harvest moon last night, and it was lovely. I really enjoyed looking at all of your photos here. I have a thing for salt and pepper shakers, particularly those that are seasonal, and I love all of yours.
Patti when I first got married I collected s&p shakers from every vacation and visit when we left home. I had so many I finally decided to donate them…now I have more but I just can part with them as they are so cute and unique. 🥰 Blessings Always
We had a mostly clear evening last night for the Harvest Moon, and it was beautiful! Luckily, I only saw one ghost, and he was in my garden landscape! (aka concrete reader statue). Your ghostly group are adorable, Kari! I love the pottery ghosts. I have an artist who I visit each year from whom I’ve added a few ghosts over the years. Her inventory is also limited, first come, first serve. The candle glow of those along with the hologram ghost make for a frightfully fun table atmosphere. The little s&p shakers and matching napkin rings are too cute and kitschy – they look like something from the 1950s. I love the alternative approach with your Desert Rose tableware and reasoning re: the vines. The mats and little scarecrows complement that harvest theme where gardens are winding down.
Thank you for bringing the season of both harvest and halloween to us in this hop with your tablescape, Kari!
We saw it too Rita and you are right it was so pretty. Thanks for your sweet comments and you are right again…, the ghost s&p’s are so old. Thanks for all your hard work on this hop…you are appreciated. Blessings Always.
I’m eager to see the moon tonight. There is always a magical feeling with such an event.
Your table filled with fun seasonal touches delights the senses, as do your special Dessert Rose place settings. The S&P collection ads a whimsical touch and as you , nice for each individual. I have a few seasonal S&P. Love using them on my tables for added interest. Thanks for the inspiration. Happy Halloween!
Sarah, last night the moon was so pretty….the Captain and I have a special love of the moon, especially the full Harvest moon so we want to observe as much as we can. thanks for stopping by and have a wonderful October. Blessings
