My dear readers, it is confession time yet again.
You know I love sports and particularly I love the Kansas City Royals baseball.
Only….
Only, they are not doing so hot these days.
By that I mean they are losing a lot of games….actually, they are at the bottom of the totem pole, last in the WHOLE league.
Sigh!
It hasn’t always been like that.
The Royals have gone to two World Series in a row and won one of them, but this year, we have lost favorite players and our team is “rebuilding” which simply means…we are not a cohesive team and we are losing.
So instead of lamenting our fate, I choose to go back a couple years ago and remember a fun week-end that the Captain and I had in Miami watching the Royals play baseball.
So if you will indulge me…I re-visited a post from August 2016.
It was…..
Date Night, Afternoon Delight and all that jazz!
My dear readers…the Captain and I packed in a lot of activities this past week-end, our date night included.
I thought I would share a few highlights of our trip to Miami to watch our favorite baseball team, the Kansas City Royals…win a three game series against the Miami Marlins!
We decided early on to make it a date night week-end, so it was packed full of activities.
The Captain booked a hotel because we knew that we would not feel much like driving home after the ball game….and then he found us the most wonderful seats on the front row next to the first base line at Marlin Stadium. I was so excited because I would get to see the Kansas City Royals players, up close and personal.
Miami is about 2 hours away from us…so we boarded Jesse James, packed an overnight bag and hopped in the car!
We stopped off before the game at a cute little restaurant called Spanky’s to have prime rib…yummy, one of my favorite meats.
Nothing fancy, actually very casual as you can see from the plate. But very good eats!
After checking into our hotel, we walked down to the marina and admired all the boats.
I never tire of the smell of the ocean or the sound of the waves! We also watched the draw bridge open and close every half hour. It doesn’t take much to please me. The best things in life are free, aren’t they?
We walked into the little mall in the hotel and of course I couldn’t resist the kitchen shop. We will talk more about that in a later post, but I can tell you this…you will be seeing a few items in a later tablescape! What a delight!
We drove over to the game as the stadium was about 1 mile from our hotel and I had a ball, no pun intended.
Third baseman, Cheslor Cuthbert!
We talked to the players from our perfect seats and got autographs and had fun with the Marlin fans surrounding us!
Pitcher, Eddie (Edison Volquez) and catcher, Salvy (Salvadore Perez)!
Right Fielder, LoCain (Lorenzo Cain) hit a single and is on first base.
First baseman, Hos (Eric Hosmer)!
And no matter what one has ate previously….one cannot go to a ball game and not find something to eat again….:)
To take a tally of what we ate…at least a few of…popcorn, peanuts, crackerjacks….dippin dots and of course hot dogs! ( I snapped this pic of the Captain…I was actually busy talking and taking pics of our baseball players!
And then on Friday, shortly after breakfast, we hopped in the car and drove back home….in the rain. Have I told you I love the rain? It just makes everything smell so fresh afterwards, doesn’t it?
After arriving home to our little city…we picked Jesse James up from the Kennel, unpacked our overnight bags, and zipped off to the theater to see the movie Ben-Hur on Friday afternoon, which was a good movie, we enjoyed it and recommend it!
After the movie, we went out to dinner at a tucked away Italian restaurant, Mangia Bene, where we had one of the best tasting pizzas, garden salad, garlic bread and a glass of wine!
A perfect ending to a perfect date week-end.
I really enjoy these short little “vacay’s”….one isn’t gone long enough to miss home, but the little get-a-way is always nice.
What are your thoughts? Do you like short trips or do you prefer the long vacations?
I say there is room for both in anyone’s travel plans.
Thanks for letting me go down memory lane…now it is reality time and the Royals are playing in Chicago this afternoon against the White Sox.
I sure hope they win, but if they don’t, well, that is ok too!
Have a great and Blessed day.

I knew I shouldn’t read this. Now I am so homesick!! I grew up in Florida and retreated back there after having to divorce my 1st husband. I still have lotta family living in Punta Gorda, Cape Coral….I am going to go back and stare at the boats and try to remember what the smell was like sitting on the Pier in Ft Lauderdale as a kid.
Thanks for sharing this, I need to buy a plane ticket now 🙂

Carolyn sez: How fun–sure do miss those times. Too bad your neighbor is 90–but maybe that’s not so bad.

What a perfect weekend! Baseball, prime rib, a hotel room with a gorgeous view, pizza and a movie. I like the picture of the captain balancing his hot dogs (or was one yours)? I am a big baseball fan and my team, S.F.Giants are near the bottom too. Thanks for all your thoughts, the tests went smoothly.

Wonderful news Linda! 🙂 and yes, I must confess that one of the hotdogs had my name on it. Got to have peanuts and hotdogs or it “ain’t” a ball game! Thanks for stopping by.
