My dear readers, this post about August, is the eighth in the series of the months of the year that I started at the beginning of the year.
You see, I have been assigning genders to each month and perhaps you might ask why!
Well, because I am a dreamer, a romantic, and I love to hear summer rain on a tin roof.
I believe in knights in shining armor and I smile at red cardinals perched on white snowy branches,
…and I love the way the coastal breezes sway the large palm fronds on the slender palm trees on any given tropical day!
AND….
I have a Secret Garden where I sit in the early morning hours and meditate and pray, which fills my heart with gratitude!
AND….
…..my creative nature flows with thoughts that I just can’t wait to get down on paper or in this case, in a post,
…….first selfishly, for myself as I need to see the printed words of my thoughts, and yes, in spite of all the technical inventions, I like to make hand written lists…
……but secondly for you, my dear readers, who may have the same tendencies and feelings.
and this 8th month of the year, this month’s characteristics, in my opinion from my early morning thoughts, make it a definite “Mr.”!
Let us start with the obvious!
August is hot and sometimes sticky from high humidity!
The origin of August can be traced back to the year 8 B.C., when the Roman government renamed the month after their first emperor, Caesar Augustus. Augustus was used as a formal title that translated as honorable making it a perfect name for a mighty and powerful ruler. Augustus was shortened to August in 1097.
There are no official holidays in August, but that doesn’t stop most people from taking a vacation.
August is the busiest time at the beach and in the mountains, as summer-weary folks take a break to cool off.
The name is not only the obvious noun, the name is an adjective too.
Hmmmmmmm, interesting right? Much like the male gender.
And you may take that any way you want to take it! 🙂
Let’s continue!
The word august(/aw-guhst/) means awe-inspiring and tremendous, having or containing elements of significance or majesty.
Someone or something highly esteemed, possibly due to age or maturity.
Examples?
A brilliantly successful business man walks confidently into a room full of motivated employees and the man could be described as being august!
OR to elementary students counting down the days of their summer vacation see August as being quite august.
True it could be a woman, but the more I study the 8th month, the more I am convinced it is of the male gender.
Look at the Peridot gemstone for this month!
And the flower?
It is the Poppy! I love the brilliant red of this awesome flower!
The petals are like paper, which could be both strong and fragile, again like the male species….while the buds are prickly and fuzzy, bent over in disguise as to what lies beneath.
Need I say more?
What are your thoughts regarding the gender of the month of August?
Aside from the fact that you most likely never gave it any thought? 🙂

I enjoy your monthly series, Kari. I agree that August is male. Our oldest son was born in August, and he’s very strong, but he can surprise me with his vulnerabilities. Thank you, Kari.
Kari says
Thanks for dropping by Sandy…I am so glad you are enjoying the monthly gender series. It is so much fun to put together.
Take care of you and yours my friend…it is plenty hot out there! I am taking advantage by watching Olympics under the air conditioner! Hugs

Happy August Kari, I don’t really have a thought on whether August is a he or she, all I know is it’s my least favorite month, too hot and gardens begin to look brown and tired…plus school starts next week which really makes it feel like summer is over…However, your witty post has shown me some other sides of August which I will focus on to make my attitude about August better! Thank you!

Jenna, I am so excited to be able to water my plants now that my energy is slowly coming back…the only problem is my plants are drying up on the vine no matter how much they get to drink! LOL I am sure the neighbors are watching me water brown plants and are thinking ….”What is she doing?” LOL Thanks for stopping by and stay cool my friend.

A very good description of August. I named my garden reading putto Augustine, and intuitively must have been on the same level of thinking as you. Happy August, dear Kari!
Kari says
awe Rita…..we are on the same page sweet friend. Stay inside and stay cool til these dog days of summer start to wane. Hugs always
Marsha says
Most definitely August is a “Mr.” I also include the fact most of August is the zodiac sign Leo. Very strong personality. Enjoy the remainder of the summer.
Kari says
So true Marsha… we know also “Leo” is king of the jungle and August is certainly showing heat dominance this year. Have a great and blessed day.

What a joy to see you write again dear Kari!
August very well could be masculine… it’s always a hot month here in Pa. but cool calm and collect in the mornings and afternoons. That sounds like a man!
Happy August my friend! I enjoy hearing from you!
Kari says
Thanks Nancy, it feels so good to post again.:) I think you are right in your description too….August is definitely like a man.
Thanks for your sweet comments. Hugs.

I am loving this monthly series. August is a busy month with three family birthdays and our oldest granddaughter starting K-5.
Our weather in August is usually less than ideal with high humidity. My garden begins to look weary and so do I.
Happy August, my friend!
Kari says
Thank you for your stopping by my blessed sister in Christ…..it sounds like you will have plenty to keep you busy during this month.
It doesn’t seem possible that you will have a grand daughter in school. Time certainly flies, huh?
We had family come to visit (now that people are getting out more,) but it has been so hot with lots of humidity that one is drenched early in the day. But, I am so grateful for any kind of weather….what a blessing to actually feel it. 🙂
Blessings always to you and Butch!
