This Valentine’s Day For Two – 2023, tablescape has a lot of the familiar looks that most Valentine Tablescapes have.
It is kinda hard to style something different when the popular colors are red and white and consists of hearts or heart shaped decor.
However, here we go.
Nothing is new on this table except the salt and pepper shakers that I purchased on line several weeks ago to go with my Cardinal Collection.
What can I say?
I love cardinals and have a pair that nest in my ficus hedges…or at least they did before Hurricane Ian.
I hope they fly back from wherever they were blown to. 🙂
Please forgive the overcast day, we had rain and the sun was hiding behind the clouds the day I took these photos.
For my table, we start with the table in the courtyard by the waterfall.
I sit out there often and the Captain and I like the ambience of eating our meals beside the bubbling waterfall.
(You know from previous posts that I am a romantic.)
Red checked, heart shaped placemats are topped with white square dinner plates, a Fiesta salad plate rimmed with pink and red hearts, and red dessert plate.
At the left side of the plate stack is a red swirled wine glass (and at the Captain”s plate, the wine glass is on the right)
Red sheer and white linen napkins are combined and secured by heart shaped napkin rings and a red rose.
White pearl-ish handled flatware sit beside the place setting.
Pretty red Cardinals are well represented by the the salt and pepper shakers, …along with a pair of blown glass Cardinals, and a couple pairs of red figurine Cardinals.
They all seem to be chirping love songs for our sweet and simple Valentines Day Dinner.
The Cardinals are nestled in and around the red “X’s” and heart shaped “O’s” which in turn surround a tarnished candelabra with white candles.
The ice bucket holds a bottle of wine and a few extra faux bright red roses and there is no tablecloth for this casual dinner for two.
How is that for a Valentines day dinner and tablescape?
The Menu List is set to the side sporting red romantic font.
I like intimate dinner parties, just a few couples… and for Valentines day. I prefer to stay home, avoiding the crowds. …And it so happens my spouse agrees with me for this holiday.
It will just be ‘Me and My Captain.’
Remember, I love the romance!
In fact, One of my favorite Bible passages is the story of Jacob and Rachel and is in the book of Genesis, Chapters 27, 28 and 29.
It reminds me of valentines day.
(In my opinion, It is one of the most romantic verses in the Bible, although there are other romances in the book of Genesis as well as other books in the Word of God.)
Genesis 29:20
“So Jacob served seven years for Rachel, and they seemed to him but a few days because of the love he had for her.”
Let’s review the background:
Jacob travelled to Haran hoping to find a wife…. as well as to keep away from his vengeful twin brother, Esau. (They were the first twins mentioned in the Bible).
Jacob stopped at a well for water and saw Rachel, the youngest of the two daughters of his Uncle Laban.
Jacob fell in love immediately and after a month of working for his Uncle, Laban had asked what wages Jacob expected, and Jacob offered much more than he needed to in order to marry Rachel.
Jacob offered to work for 7 years of free labor for Rachel’s hand in marriage.
His Uncle Laban, quickly accepted Jacob’s offer.
Jacob doesn’t seem to have regretted it for a moment.
He was so crazy in love with Rachel that seven years seemed to him to be only a few days.
The years flew by.
Love can do that to a man.
There were other very intriguing and interesting circumstances to this arrangement, but I will let you explore that if you so desire. 🙂
Blessings my sweet friends and no matter how you celebrate Valentine’s Day, I wish you a Happy one.

Kari, everything is wonderful for a Valentine’s Day celebration. With your menu and the table by the fountain, I would love to join you if the Captain didn’t already have a reserved seat. Lots of lovely items on your table but my favorite are the napkin rings.
Taking a break but enjoying the Big 12/SEC games today. Hope KU is up for the challenge tonight.
Kari says
thanks Jan…it was fun to set up the table.
As far as the Big 12 Challenge tonite…I am nervous. I’ve watched WV beat Auburn and OK beat Alabama…(didn’t get to see Iowa State get beat by Mizzou ;(…) and now I’m watching Baylor and Arkansas… but will be watching Texas and Tennessee later….not to mention KState and Florida…and then of course, we play.
I am still in shock that we lost 3 in a row but hope they come out ready to show what they can do. Grady Dick needs get back to his perimeter play and making those 3’s. Jalen Wilson has tried to carry the team on his back but he can’t do it all alone. KJ Adams will have to guard Oscar (I hope he stays out of foul trouble) DeJaun Harris needs to step up again too. Yep! I’m pretty nervous.
AND then there is tomorrow’s KC Chiefs game!
Whew!!! LOL
Jan E. says
Yea for the win! Two days to rest up for home game with Kansas State. Glad to see Harris making more of an effort but Grady Dick needs to get back to hitting his threes.
Kari says
Whew! We got through that hurdle and beat UK. Certainly not a blow out but a “W” is a “W”. Yep KState will be a test for sure. That purple team is playing pretty good this year.

Kari, I am so happy you were able to post your beautiful and romantic table next to your waterfall and your issues were solved by the young man. I missed you on the hop. The heart placemat, the Fiesta, and your beautiful wine glasses are perfect. I was wondering if you were left handed and read you reply to Rita and laughed. The menu sounds so delicious. I love that you shared the story of Jacob and Rachel! Have a lovely weekend, sweet friend ♥️
Kari says
Thank you for stopping by Pam, and I hope my PC issues are resolved…we shall see! These days when one is basically computer illiterate, it can become a big challenge. LOL Happy Valentine’s Day to you and Butch! Blessings Always

Kari says
So happy to hear from you sweet friend….The Captain and I still keep Dublin in our travel plans…perhaps Ireland will be first and foremost when he finally retires…at least those are our plans for this year. I can’t wait for you to show us your beautiful country. Hugs and Blessings.

Hi Kari,
Your Captain is so good to you, and you are so good to him. It’s no wonder he wants to be alone with you on Valentine’s Day. Your waterfall is lovely and so romantic to have a Valentine’s dinner beside it. I love cardinals as well, and I hope yours come back for Valentines. Your setting is lovely and your menu is making me hungry.
Your love story from the bible is wonderful. To be loved so well is a blessing.

I am so very fortunate to have such a wonderful and understanding husband. It’s romantic no matter where one is just as long as we are together. We hope you and Ron have a very happy valentine’s day. Hugs my friend

Kari, what a beautiful tablescape! I love that you incorporated the Fiesta specialty plate (I’ve resisted, even with having the outlet near me with sale pricing!). Love the cardinals and all that they signify, and I hope your pair return (let us know if they do). Are you left-handed and that’s why you put your gorgeous red-swirled wine glass on the left? Clouds or not, that’s a beautiful area to dine by that you have. The menu looks superb too. I’m glad you have your technical issues seemingly resolved.
Kari says
Whew Rita. I was glad to get back ‘into the groove’ so to speak! I am now …not only on a first name basis with my IT guy…but we probably know more about each other than with my family! LOL…which is a wonder in itself because he is young enough, (or I am old enough), to be my grandchild. He kept laughing at me (in a nice way) while I marveled at his extensive knowledge for one so young. So fingers crossed that it all comes together.
Yes, I love Fiesta and up until a few years ago, I collected each 5 piece new color. I have the original flatware (handles literally flat) and bulbous water glasses too. But the Fiesta hearts and 4 leaf clovers are favorites.
No, I am not left handed but there was no room to put the wine glass in it’s suggested place. The courtyard table is rather small. I just thought someone might comment on why the glass was on the left while the other was on the right. LOL
Boo Hoo for the Jayhawks 3rd loss in a row…only happened 4 times in the last 20 years. We dropped from #2 to #9 and after the 3rd loss we will be lucky if we are in the top 25! LOL We face Kentucky Saturday who seem to have found their niche and have a head of steam going after losing 3 in a row too! So it will be a tough road to hoe for KU. Good luck with Auburn…. glad you beat Texas Tech!

Good morning, Kari! How neat to have a courtyard with a fountain! Such a romantic spot for your Valentine table. I love your tiny check red heart placemat with scalloped trim. Your candlelight dinner with roses and champagne sounds wonderful. Your wine glasses are lovely and such a cute centerpiece. The cardinal salt and pepper shakers are perfect. I love cardinals. Sure hope yours return soon. Do you have birdseed out?
Oh, your menu sounds fabulous. So glad you got to post.
Kari says
Thank you Bonnie…I do have birdseed out and I hope it attracts them back. I was glad to post as that is one of my pleasures in life….I love to play with dishes, guess I am a kid at heart. Happy Valentines Day.

hi Kari! Your Valentine table is so pretty, I’m so glad you were finally able to post it! The first thing that caught my eye was the wood X Os those are too cute! I also love the plate stacks and red roses. I was glad to see your patio wasn’t damaged {or if it was it’s fixed} the waterfall is lovely. Your menu sounds perfect and I love the addition of red cardinals. I love cardinals too and always feel like it’s a good sign when I see one! Such a beautiful and romantic setting for you and your Captain!
Kari says
Thanks Jenna….actually we did have damage in the courtyard….I had to work the camera so it would not be visible…haha…as they say…all smoke and mirrors. Have a great and Blessed day.
