Florida Blue Crab Summer Tablescape!!!!
My dear friends….I love seafood!
And I love anything nautical!
I love the waters of the Gulf of Mexico AND the Atlantic ocean.
I love hearing the seagulls call and watching them swoop down to scoop fish out of the turquoise waters of the Gulf.
AND I love eating seafood, particularly Florida Blue Crab and of course you must know that I love setting a nautical tablescape to go with my Florida Blue Crab theme.
In case you are not familiar with Blue Crab ….they are a common and tasty delicacy that is caught by fisherman across the south and eastern United States coastlines.
Anglers can have fun catching a Blue Crab by using the hook and line method, but fisherman often turn to bait traps to collect Blue Crab.
In Florida, Crabbing is good year-round, but the best time to find the Blue Crab is during the summer months.
Blue Crab can be found both on the Gulf of Mexico and the Atlantic Ocean.
Crabs can also be found inland, in creeks or rivers in northern Florida.
Now that we have discussed Blue Crabs….. let us talk about the Blue Crab tablescape!
For those who do not know how to eat a Blue Crab….it is very simple.
Just follow the instructions on the plate. 🙂
You may have seen the same type of instructions on the lobster plates used in the post on how to eat lobsters.
Click on the link here for the Coastal Florida Seafood Boil!
Yummy, Fresh, Seafood, there is nothing like it and Florida Blue Crab is soooooooo good!
For the tablescape, I started with fish netting over a white table instead of using a tablecloth.
Seagrass chargers are placed under the Crab plates and the lifesaver napkin rings are used to hold blue votive candles… instead of the napkin.
In place of the napkin “ring”, I used little white Adirondack chairs and slipped the nautical napkin through the arm rails.
I found the napkins about 10 years ago at Old Time Pottery.
I like them because they have a white background with beige sea shells, along with a few nautical terms, as well as the markings of an old navigational chart.
What is really convenient, is the little chairs also hold the name tags that slide through a cut into the back of the chair.
The flatware with rope-like handles go along with the coastal theme and for me they resemble the rope used to tie a boat to the dock.
I have also included a navy blue crab pick which is a must for digging out those delicious nuggets of crab meat from their shell.
A few sea shells along with shiny, blue, flat marbles are along the center of the table,… in and among the blue hydrangeas, driftwood, navy blue lighthouse and blue sea glass.
A few pieces of coral nest against the blue crackle jar holding the flowers.
I especially love the water and drink glasses because of their wavy shape.
I found them years ago…don’t even remember where, but have always liked their look.
They appear misshapen and about to tip over but on the contrary, they are nice and sturdy.
Salt and pepper shakers are little Blue Hermit Crabs.
You will notice the little SeaGull was also used in the Lobster tablescape.
Since darkness was fast approaching, I lit the candles so you could see the table in candlelight.
The wooden mallets aid in the cracking of the crab shells.
They were also used on the lobster tablescape.
They are interchangeable which is convenient for any nautical tablescape.
Have a great and wonderful day!
I did not purchase anything new for this tablescape…and most items I have had for years.
Blessings Always

The perfect nautical tablescape! I love the fishing net table runner. What a fun idea! The lighthouse makes it extra special!
Kari says
Maureen you are so sweet with your kind comments. …and I could eat seafood on paper plates and be happy.
Carol@Blueskyathome says
Kari, you are the queen of nautical tablescapes. All your accoutrements add to that overall feeling of outdoor, by the water dining. We love seafood too and would love to dine at your lovely table.
Kari says
Awe thanks Carol…we love company and serve seafood frequently so you would be welcome at our table anytime.
Marsha says
Kari, you certainly know everything there is to know are blue crabs. They sound so yummy but I can honestly say I have never tried one. I will have to after seeing your post. Your crab delight table is gorgeous and most definitely reflects anything seaside. I also love your lobster tablescape. Now that I can say I have tried eating and love it!!!!!! Your ideas are stunning starting with the use of a net for a tablecloth. Perfect! And I love your multi use of your chairs to hold your place cards and napkins. Such a fun idea! And your crab plates are perfect for those who may or may not be familiar with how to eat a Blue Crab. All of your wonderful details from the shells, sea glass, rattan placemats and rope flatware enhance your exquisite seaside theme. Enjoy every morsel of those tasty treats and have a wonderful summer!
Kari says
Hi Marsha, thank you so much for stopping by and for your kind comments. I do love seafood and most times opt for something I don’t have to “work” for… like fried shrimp…my grand daughter loves the peel in the shell shrimp which is delish, but I’m getting to the place of the simpler the better and that is lot of hand peeling. 😊
It is pretty hot down here right now, I planted a couple tomato plants in large containers and the leaves are shriveling from our 90-some degree heat this past week. So sticking with my simpler the better mantra these days, I’m heading for the Farmers Outdoor Market for some tomatoes. Have a wonderful summer, I’m sure it is cooler where you are.
Marsha says
Hi Kari, I love your mantra…living more simply. I wish someone would do a blog hop over hints on how to do it! It is the discussion between myself and husband since we both have been in long time habits of biting off more than we can chew. At this age, high expectations and ambitions are not practical. Even my tablescapes are becoming more simple and easy. Wisconsin is experiencing a lot of the wildfire smoke from Canada. I need to stay indoors since the smoke is making it harder for me during my recovery from this respiratory virus I got from my husband. You just can’t sit outside to enjoy it. I can’t do tablescapes outside nor a decorated porch. I can’t wait until it rains. I hope you will get cooler temperatures and enjoy any outdoor gardening and activities. See you at the next hop. …..Marsha
Kari says
Your tablescapes are always lovely Marsha…and I look for that little something extra that you tuck in. So just keep on keepin’ on ….tain’t nothin’ wrong with simple. See you in the Fall.
Sandra @ Dinner at Eight says
I’ve only had blue crab once but I remember it was delicious! Love your tablescape — so full of wonderful details! Each photo had new things to admire and I enjoyed them all. The shots of the full table are especially memorable, but I have to admit to being partial to the ones lit by candlelight. Such fun hopping with you!
Kari says
thanks Sandra….we eat in our courtyard every day and when we light the candles as daylight fades…it is magical. thanks for stopping by.
Ann of Corner of Plaid and Paisley says
Kari!! I would need these plates with the instructions!! I would not even know where to start if a blue crab was set in front of me!!! Such a cute table!! I love those unusual glasses, so different!! You have a lot of sweet details, my favorites are the netting and your flatware. I hope you have a wonderful summer!☀️🩴
Kari says
Ann, I had to learn how to eat shell fish when we moved to Florida some 15 years ago. I’m finally a master and love it all. Thanks for your comments.
Bonnie Morgan says
Oh Kari, It has been ages since I had crab! Your nautical table is very creative and instructive. I would need instructions.
Your plates are too cute and the darling adirondack chairs as napkin rings are the perfect addition. Those napkins and the fish netting, light houses, sea birds and all the right eating tools pull the eye to your theme.
I can understand why your relatives don’t want supermarket seafood after experiencing eating fresh caught seafood at your home. There is a huge difference.
Now, I am craving some FRESH caught crab! You live in a great place.
Kari says
We really love the fresh seafood down here. Yesterday the Captain was in Nantucket and he said they had Florida rock shrimp on the menu at the B&B the pilots were all staying at. LOL. You are so kind with your comments.
Rita C. says
Kari, this is just fabulous, and so many cool details. I love the chairs as napkin rings, place card holders. And the versatility in using those cute life savers used as candle holders was brilliant. The shells, the net, the salt & peppers, the glasses (whoa, matey, I think I might’ve had one too many! How fun would those be?!). It all comes together in such an eye-pleasing colorway too, just like the Gulf. Love, love, love. Thanks for being part of the party and bringing your seaside style to the table! Happy summer!
Kari says
thank you Rita for keeping us all in line (ME particularly) you do an amazing job with organizing it all. I also enjoy participating in these blog hops. I will say I love sea food so much that setting a table for it is simply just fun. I’m ready now for some basketball.
Mary says
Adorable plates with the easy steps for your Blue Crab summer table Kari! I love the netting as a tablecloth with your seaside details including the Sea Gull, lighthouse and aqua blue accents from the vase, marbles, votives and wavy glasses. The Adirondack chairs as napkin rings and place holders steal the show. As always it’s a treat to join you at the table and hop with you again, Happy Summer! ♥
Kari says
thank you Mary for your kind comments and for stopping by today. I love all the inspiration we get from all the stylists. Those of us living by water are so fortunate.
Linda Primmer says
Kari, such a fun nautical table. The netting, the Adirondack napkin holder, those darling plates and so much more. I bet that blue crab tastes amazing! The lighthouse makes for a great focal piece. Kari, this table is calling my name. I love the whole nautical theme. A great way to welcome summer. Always a pleasure hopping with you.
Kari says
thank you Linda, I enjoy playing with my dishes. So glad you stopped by.
Kim says
Oh my goodness Kari – this table you have put together is fabulous!! I agree with Debbee that it is Southern Living Magazine worthy. Not to be a grass is always greener on the other side of the fence person, but this land-locked girl adores anything ocean, nautical, and seafood! Love the netting on the table and those salad plates with the instructions on how to eat crab are adorable. And using the Adirondack chairs as napkin rings is pure creative genius. This is perfection! Wishing you a very happy summer with lots of fresh seafood!
Kari says
AW thanks Kim…as I have said …I just love setting tables and my imagination runs wild when it comes to themes.
Ricki Treleaven says
I love your table, especially the cute pates with instructions! Adorable! I also like the fishing net on the table. But the most clever thing EVER is using the darling beach chairs as napkin rings. I love that idea, and I will definitely steal it, if you don’t mind! I also like all the seaside elements, especially the lighthouse. 😀 Your table really has made me smile today. Happy summer!
Kari says
Steal away Ricki Jill!!! That is what we hope to do is give inspiration to each other and our readers. I am always learning something new each time we hop. Have a great summer.
Cecilia says
Hi Kari! What a fun table–the crabs and nautical accents are so cute for summer and I would love to pull up a chair! Blessings, Cecilia @My Thrift Store Addiction
Kari says
We have an open door policy at our home…you would always be welcome and I would have an excuse to make more seafood and that is a good thing.😊
Jan E. says
Kari, your Blue Crab tablescape brought back memories from the fifties when my family went crabbing in Delaware and Maryland. Our campsite table was covered with newspapers unlike your adorable table. I like the fish netting, the plates with how to eat a crab instructions (8 steps no less), and those fun wavy glasses. Great job. Very summery.
Kari says
Jan I had such fun putting all the elements together…almost as much fun as eating the prepared seafood. I think I could eat it 7 days a week. Have a great week end.
Debbee says
Kari, I love every single little detail and element of this Southern Living Magazine worthy tablescape! It’s fun and fabulous! Oh my, where to start? There’s those crab plates, unique glasses, cute nautical decor, mallets, flatware and placemats…! Wonderful styling, bravo!
Kari says
You are too kind Debbee…..I consider that quite a compliment coming from the queen of themes…I’ve enjoyed your Ireland pics….My origin is Scotch/Irish. See you in the Fall if not sooner.
Sandy Marshall says
Kari,
I love your seascape table. You have my mouth watering as I am a huge fan of seafood. The only thing I don’t like mussels. Everything else I’ll eat all day long. I can’t get enough seafood.
Kari says
You know Sandy…I don’t care much for mussels either. I can eat deep fried oysters but not Oysters Rockefeller…not for me. LOL. Have a great week end my dear friend.❤️
Sarah says
Kari, I echo your list of “loves”! I grew up on the Texas Gulf Coast, so fresh seafood, sand between my toes, and all things nautical are top of my list. I much enjoyed your blue crab table setting full of fun details. Now you have me craving blue crab! I guess I’ll settle for Gulf shrimp, as that’s what is in my fridge. Ha!
Happy Summer!
Kari says
Gulf shrimp is one of my favorites Sarah….anytime, night or day….and prepared just about any ole way. See you in the Fall.
Pam says
Kari, I am so excited to see my name as a guest 😉in the cute Adirondack napkin holder. Thanks so much for the invitation to indulge in fresh Florida blue crab. I love the fish netting and sea grass chargers for your nautical-themed table. The ‘how to eat crab’ plates are ideal and so cute! You pulled out all the stops for your table and did it perfectly. It is always a pleasure to hop with you and I wish you a most beautiful summer!
I am checking flights now 🤣
Kari says
We’ll meet you and Butch at the airport!
We live in a perfect place for fresh seafood, and my family up North won’t eat frozen seafood from their supermarkets now that they have had the fresh when visiting us. And I have to admit, there is not one (freshwater or saltwater) fish, crustacean, shellfish, or mollusk,…. we don’t like. However, we do have favorites and the Captain loves blackened Grouper and Crab legs while I am a lover of lobster and shrimp. There is something about meeting the arriving shrimp boats on the docks and purchasing the freshest shrimp in the morning and enjoying the catch that evening for dinner.
You are always welcome at our table my friend. Hugs and Blessings Always.
Carole @ From My Carolina Home says
