Elevating The Everyday…Enjoying The Present.

My dear readers, I am sure you have heard the term….Elevating the Everyday.

elevating the everyday

OK…I am not going to get all philosophical here…

or maudlin…

or try to tell you how to live your life.

Hey, why not grab a cup of whatever and let’s talk a bit…

just you and me…

….and no one else.

elevating the everyday

If you are like me, you are feeling the days rushing by and before we know it, we will be in the New Year.

In the blogging world, we bloggers have to be ahead of the game, much like the fashion world.

That means we are working with Thanksgiving tablescapes in early October and Christmas decorating at Halloween.

elevating the evryday

But Me?

I am usually a day late and a dollar short, if you get my drift.

Can you relate to me or are you one of those who already have your Christmas decorations out and ready to have your home all decorated for Christmas the  day after Thanksgiving?

That is ok, if that is you. No judging here.

But that is not me.  Nor am I one to take down my tree and decor the day after Christmas.  I enjoy the twinkle of lights and Christmas decor until after New Year’s Eve.

But Today???

elevating the everyday

I still have Fall and Autumn all over my home.

No Thanksgiving or Christmas boxes …YET.

Pumpkins

I still have pumpkins and apples decorating my entry.

The term elevating the everyday can mean many things to many different people.

I want to elevate my home by enjoying each and every day…..and the seasons.

I want to enjoy the month of November as the month of Thanksgiving.

Homemade soup and banana nut bread sitting on countertop.

Right now, I am baking little pumpkin loaves in my cozy kitchen and the smell is amazing….cinnamon, cloves and pumpkin…. so good.

I want to enjoy the here and now…one never knows what a day will bring.

That doesn’t mean I can’t make a few Thanksgiving and Christmas plans and put it down on paper.

Last evening, I did just that.

I am planning Thanksgiving and Christmas tablescapes that I can’t wait to bring to fruition.  Hopefully, I can use things I already have on hand…but I may just see something on-line that I can’t live without. 🥰

For me the excitement is all in the planning.  Are you that way?

I have my “Daytimer” always at hand and make notes of all my plans…. not only for tablescapes and appointments, but anything I plan to do…such as what I am wearing to church or what flowers I want to plant in the Secret Garden or what I am making for dinner each day next week; …and yes, I even note who and when my KC Chiefs, KC Royals and Kansas Jayhawks are playing sports.  My Daytimer holds all my hopes and dreams as well as my goals. Having said that, nothing is written in stone…I always use a mechanical pencil so that I can easily erase a change in plans. I can be flexible but having a plan gives me the luxury of having a schedule to fall back on if I have those crazy busy days or those lazy no energy days when I don’t have to think, I just do what my planner says.  (And just In case you are wondering, I had “make pumpkin bread” penciled into my Daytimer today. 🥰)

Some things can be on the spur of the moment, but some things are better planned….do you agree?

elevating the everyday

My elevating the everyday is simply enjoying what each day brings.

I don’t want to get in a rut, nor do I want to wish my life away.

As a child, I used to wish Christmas would hurry and come…or my birthday or any other special planned event.

Mother used to say…don’t wish your life away…enjoy the moment.

Fall Foods include Pumpkin chocolate chip cookies

So today, I am elevating the everyday.

Autumn home for harvest vignette with farm truck full of pumpkins.

I am enjoying today and all it brings.

Blessings Always.  Tomorrow is another day!

  1. I SO relate to this, Kari. It’s exactly how I feel — I want to enjoy those moments. So, probably tomorrow or Sunday, most of the Halloween-specific will come down and a few TG things (I don’t have a lot, mostly fallish) will go in their place. The day after Thanksgiving I will start to deck the halls for Christmas and it will take a bit. (Especially this year — not at my best!). TG week I may bring some holiday things to stash in the guest room or my office so it’s a faster “load in” but nope — nothing up till after that. Have to respect the bird! I don’t consider myself a lifestyle blogger, apart from it being the style of my life, which is a bit erratic. Travel here, books there, art here, family there. No one is going to base their style on mine and I probably won’t base mine on theirs. It’s just what we love and care about. That does take the pressure off! (And on another note, thanks so much for coming by yesterday!)

  2. I’m with you, my friend, and enjoying the Fall months because they go by so quickly. My pumpkins and Fall decor will be up until end of November. I wish I could have a slice of your pumpkin bread and we could chat a while.

    1. thanks Kitty…I don’t like rushing the seasons…but I believe you and I are in the minority. LOL I would enjoy sitting with you to chat…I am finding we have so much in common and I enjoy your posts so much. Thanks for stopping by and Blessings my friend.

  3. Beautiful fall pictures in this post, Kari. I too am a planner and maker of many lists on paper, but also want to enjoy the present. On my list for tonight is watch KU. My pet peeve is how quickly we go from Halloween to Christmas with so little time spent on Thanksgiving and being grateful for all our blessings.

    1. You are so right Jan…I need that time to enjoy the current season…too soon for Christmas for me. I am thankful for friends like you. 🥰
Of course I have watched KU’s two exhibition games and I like what I am seeing as these new guys are learning to work as a team. I hope it continues but for right now…Rock Chalk Jay Hawk.

  4. Kari, I love your posts! Not only do you share the beauty of everyday but you share the joy! You are a fabulous writer, please keep these posts coming, my friend! They are so encouraging!

    1. You are too sweet Pam….and so kind. For those around me, they say I write like I talk…I don’t know any other way. 🥰
Have a great week my friend.

  5. Wonderful post, Kari. I am a planner, for sure, but I do enjoy being in the moment and elevating the everyday. J helps me immensely to be in the moment!

    1. Rita, The grands definitely need spontaneous….much as our children when they were young and into all sorts of activities or school projects. I can’t tell you how many times I was informed by one of the kids at 8:30 pm..’oh Mom, I forgot to tell you I need a protractor (or some such thing) for school tomorrow!’ 🥴. That said, I like to plan and I do for the most part, but there are times……LOL🥰 Thanks for stopping by and have a great week my friend.

Please comment, I'd love to hear from you.
