Favorites this Month, Perhaps You Will Like One or Two!
Friends, I get many questions asked of me like: ‘where did you get that’? Or ‘How is that working for you?’
So I have decided to talk about a few “favorites” I have found….such as where I purchased or how much I like what I have purchased.
One of the first things is…wait for it, outdoor artificial flowers.
I know, most people scoff at the thought of using artificial or faux flowers outside in the garden and I was one of them. However, last year I grew tired of trying to keep my 4 hanging baskets on the pergola in the Secret Garden watered during our drought…so I bought artificial flowers. One Friday, during our Bible Study…one of the ladies remarked at how pretty the hanging baskets were and what was my secret to keeping them so lovely! I confessed they were faux and all the ladies were surprised, and said they looked so real. Of course, they know me well and know how much I love plants and flowers so they never thought I would resort to artificial. But I did and I didn’t stop there. I have used artificial flowers in bouquets alone or mixed with real flowers inside my home… but outside? A definite NO. It made me think of a sweet little older lady in New Mexico, who stuck singular faux tulips (about 12 inches apart) in the bare clay soil around her home. It was so obvious they were not real, but the red, purple, pink, yellow, white, and lavender tulips made her happy, even in the 80 degree temperatures, and I always smiled when I drove into her driveway at her colorful display. As for my artificial flowers, I found mine here on Outdoor Artificial Flowers. I fluffed them up and stuck them in the pots and have never looked back.
Another one of my favorites are these hot pads by Kitchen Aid. Many times I grab a hot pad and attempt to pull something out of the oven only to have my hand slip and sometimes it results in a small burn. I also have a bigger glove-like mitt, but it is too bulky for my small hands. However, I found these mitts from Wal-Mart which protect my thumb and fingers and they work great, You can also find them on Amazon, Target and QVC at a variety of prices. I paid about $10.00. I have never had them slip and find that I use them all the time.. If you want to take a look at all the different colors, here is the link: Kitchen Aid Mini Oven Mitt.
Love these glass jars for my flour, sugar etc. After all these years, I am going back to what my grandmother used. My Mother had those colorful plastic containers with the content name emblazoned across the front, but my grandmother just knew by looking at the glass container what was inside and she always said it was the best way to store her pantry supplies. After all the health talk about plastics, etc …I have been slowly changing all my tupperware/lock in lock like containers to glass storage. My favorites include the jars with the wood-grained airtight lids. You can always buy labels if you prefer and the glass containers come in all sizes. If you are thinking along those lines…here is where I have bought a few of mine. glass gallon jars.
If reading is your pleasure, Anne Graham Lotz’s “Jesus In Me” is so inspirational. We are reading it for our weekly Bible Study Group and the ladies are enjoying the read. You can also read it online but I personally love opening a book and smelling the pages. Don’t think I will ever get tired of that. Books will always be on my list of favorites and you can find the book “Jesus In Me” here.
Sometimes….make that every day…when I wake up in the early morning hours…my pixie cut hair is completely flat on the left side of my head. LOL…When I style my hair I use a “taffy” like styling product and after my usual tossing and turning and left side sleeping, my hair is plastered to my head. Washing it every day solves that issue but I don’t want to wash it every day. I have found that using this little mist sprayer and a wide tooth comb, I am able to comb my morning hair without pulling out every hair in my head. And while I am on the subject of hair. I will tell you that I have let my hair go a natural gray. I had been thinking about it for quite a while as my natural red hair was beginning to be a problem. After my chemo treatments I lost all my hair and when it started to grow back…it was coming in white. My children said I should continue to color my hair red, as that was the way “Mom” had looked all their life. So I continued to lighten and highlight and color my hair red. Until a couple months ago when my hair stylist said I had more “white” in my hair than red color. I told her to cut it as short as she could eliminating the red and we would go from there. Hence the very short pixie cut and platinum hair. I will post pictures with more info soon. Mister for hair and plants or whatever else you want to spray.
These baskets are great for a small bathroom. I use the bottom basket for extra rolls of TP and the other basket for small containers of shampoo, conditioner, tooth paste and any other things a guest might need. Definitely a favorites here. You can find these baskets and others if you have the storage need in your small room. Storage Baskets to sit on the back of your tank or anywhere you need storage.
Lastly, I don’t know if you noticed but I have a new look for Me and My Captain. I hope it will be easier to get around but there are still a few issues to work out. I think it is a lot like life….nothing is perfect and there is always something to fix,
Thank you for reading Favorites This Month, Perhaps You Will Like One Or Two.
Blessings Always

LOVE your cute haircut! And what a gorgous color your hair is – no wonder you wanted to grow it out! Thanks for sharing all your goodies too – so nice to know what other people use. (No problem with the comments now btw!) Take care my friend!
thanks Barb…Pam said she tried 3 times to comment and it would reject. However all seems well now…cyber space gremlins I guess. 🥰
I “planted” some faux flowers in a hanging container on my fence, Kari. Everything I planted in it before got eaten and I was tired of wasting money. I’ll have take a picture to show you. I love those baskets for storage! It’s always fun to see what others love. Those mitts look great, too. Thank you for sharing. ❤️
Hi Kari! I love to mix faux flowers with real flowers, and it’s amazing how many realistic ones are available! I was thinking about putting faux in the pots on my pool deck since we’re not there all the time…you’ve inspired me!
Jenna
Thanks Jenna for stopping by…I have since added artificial flowers to my large pots at the front door which are more up front and personal and comments are always positive. There are some lovely “fakes” out there these days.
Love your favorites, will check the book to see if Amazon has it. Can’t wait to see your natural hair! And I think faux flowers are an okay thing. The point is you still love beauty surrounding you!
thanks for stopping by Rita…and amazon does have that book! Have a wonderful day. Hugs
Dear Kari,
I enjoyed your blog very much. I’m seriously thinking of using faux flowers now that I know you do.
Years ago I went gray all the way and haven’t looked back. Believe it or not people still recognize me. lol I wear it very short too.
Love you,
Sandy
Oh Sandy, isn’t it such a pleasure to not have to worry about getting to the beauty shop for touch-ups/coloring? I love that and I have gotten quite a few compliments on my hair saying I look younger. Go figure! Thanks for stopping by my friend and you and Ron enjoy the day! Hugs and Blessings and much love.
